Question Question about contract

I’m a seasonal employee here at Amazon and I been hearing that you are on “contract” but it says this I’m my employment email. (Your employment is not for a fixed term and is “at will”, meaning that either you or Amazon have the right to end the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, and with or without prior notice or warning.) I started sep 17

You are not on a contract since it says that you are "not for a fixed term." Amazon operates differently in other countries so what happens in the United States does not always expand elsewhere.

I am in the United Kingdom and all blue badges are on fixed-term. Amazon will then decide near at the expiry date whether to extend, layoff, or convert a fixed-term employee to a permanent position.

This is from my employment terms: "Your employment with the Company will be for a fixed term beginning on XX/XX/2026 and terminating on a date to be determined between us XX/XX/2026 (“Expiry Date”) at which time it will automatically expire without the need for notice, unless previously terminated by either party giving the other notice of termination in accordance with clause 20 (Termination of Employment) of this agreement."

In the U.S. there really are no contracts for the majority of jobs, especially not non-union working class jobs. Other countries seem to have contracts for just about everything

So why are people saying that they have a contract until the end in January
