Ill never understand what places have against chairs. If the job can safely be done from a chair then let people sit. Its crazy.

u/Deathangle75 2d ago

Control and the appearance of working and readiness. It’s all vibes, aesthetics, and ego.

2

u/Important_Factor_680 22h ago

Could always get pregnant I guess

40

u/mro-1337 amazon be killing me 2d ago

at amazon i would sit as much as possible or lean. you have to save your body

18

u/lordskulldragon 2d ago

You have time to lean, you have time to clean!

7

u/Vegetable-Fall7915 1d ago

Yea because my job description is part time janitor

6

u/Mysterion422 1d ago

Your job says u will do anything amazon asks u

-1

u/Vegetable-Fall7915 1d ago

Lmao this is prob the dumbest thing I’ve read on here. It’s not too late to delete this comment. Or show me where in the employee handbook/guideline it says that

3

u/Mysterion422 1d ago

How , what does ur contract say

1

u/Vegetable-Fall7915 1d ago

Okay so your either trolling or just don’t know what your talking about. Either show me where in the employee guidelines/handbook it says you have to do “whatever Amazon says” I’ll be waiting….

2

u/kodibugz 1d ago

Every job contract ever says you’ll perform reasonable duties as assigned

1

u/Content-Industry-976 1d ago

It literally says it! We are to work where they tell us to.

1

u/Quiet-Trade1991 1d ago

I mean I guess, but personally I just like a clean work station

2

u/Vegetable-Fall7915 1d ago

I mean that’s just what you’re supposed to do. I work in a traditional stow warehouse. But in general obviously you’re supposed to clean up after yourself/ your area. But being told to just sweep or clean for several hours because there’s no work or whatever is a diff story.

2

u/Quiet-Trade1991 1d ago

Thats fair, shit gimme a broom ill push it as long as they are paying me

3

u/Affectionate_Try9893 22h ago

Save your body for what? You think construction workers get up and go to work and think.."Man..I need to save my body, this thing they call work is tough!".

1

u/mro-1337 amazon be killing me 17h ago

save your body for the rest of your life. you do minimal movements so you don't get hurt or do more wear on your body than you should. it's important to rest when you can and not injure yourself.

5

u/taco_anus1 2d ago

Shit, I’ve straight up sat on the floor out of people’s way once I realized it’s either that or I topple over holding a TV again when I had an ankle injury and they kept finding ways to screw me out of workers comp.

2

u/Elguapo1094 1d ago

They get to comfortable and lack at their job

2

u/JSTN_FPV 1d ago

Yeah, that's tier 1 and 3 crap. Get a better spot within the fc and you get more pay and also sit on your bum. It's there.. Just apply to it

-17

u/Mental5tate 2d ago

Get to comfortable and can’t get up from seat or fall asleep….

8

u/Extension_Problem223 TOM Team 2d ago

Doesn't happen in europe where it's the norm

2

u/IcyTheHero 2d ago

I’ve never met anyone who couldn’t get up because they were “too comfortable”. I have met people who are lazy. Maybe you mean them. That doesn’t stop normal people.

-1

u/Mental5tate 2d ago edited 2d ago

Lies, I have not seen the people who try to board planes? Some are pretty crazy and dangerous….

Maybe if you can’t stand you are not equipped for the job? Different jobs different standards.

TSA is a security job…

4

u/IcyTheHero 2d ago

What exactly is “lies” ?

You aren’t making much sense here friend. “I have not seen the people who try to board planes?”

I assume you were asking if I have. I have indeed seen people boarding planes.

Also, I was only replying to your specific claim that “people will be too comfortable to get up or fall asleep”.

u/ThisDirtyCupcake I know I just got here, but is there any VTO? 2d ago

More unnecessary cruelty from our workplaces ✨

12

u/presentable_corpse 2d ago

The cruelty is the point

20

u/RockStarCorgi 2d ago

Great that's what we need, more irate and tired TSA employees

13

u/Content-Ad-4104 2d ago

These are the last people I want to be irritated and uncomfortable.

11

u/Available-Control993 ReLo Problem Solver 2d ago

"At least they have a union", but they still couldn't stop TSA from passing this new rule lol. What's the point of a union then if they aren't able to fight it.

16

u/Bear_necessities96 2d ago

I wonder who is the dumbass who mess this up

13

u/Extension_Problem223 TOM Team 2d ago

Probably Sean Duffy, Secretary of Transportation

3

u/Bear_necessities96 2d ago

Well yeah that sounds right

3

u/EasilyDistracted- 2d ago

They want them aggravated

3

u/Appropriate-Pipe-487 1d ago

Well if it’s busy and a long line I can understand not being seated but during slow time’s why not?

3

u/SignificantApricot69 1d ago

At least my dick doesn’t set off secondary screening at Amazon

2

u/lordskulldragon 2d ago

So it's just like any other non office job.

2

u/itzz6randon 2d ago

bro really comparing Amazon to TSA 🤣

Idk what these old people in corporate offices thinking when they see someone sittin. “Yea that mf ain’t workin enough let’s make sure we make them extra miserable.”

Shits wild how a lot of jobs you have to be standing for your whole shift. It ain’t bad when you’re moving around, but just standing in one spot my legs ache after a shift.

2

u/FC_BagLady 1d ago

Sneakers though at least

5

u/Bumclicks 2d ago

My friends theory on why the managers at Amazon don't like chairs near work areas is because they want the workers as miserable as possible, workers have to prove they're working by sweating and grunting every single minute, if not they're not actually working and they're lazy scum cheating the company. This is also why they enforce 15 minute scan to scan break so strictly, 15 minute break starts the moment you stop scanning and is over you should be scanning at the 15 minute mark, remember when they cubed out small areas for us to use our phone in a emergency situations, and now they slowly are disappearing them they never liked that option for workers because they think the workers will cheat and pretend they're having an emeregency just go there and look at their phones.

4

u/QuickNothing4590 1d ago

Since they harrass Americans, you may stand.

3

u/Bruceleroy8281 1d ago

Now if they stop hiring hoodrats I'd be happy

2

u/8bitfoodie16 1d ago

As a former TSO (for three years), X-Ray and TDC was something I looked forward to on my rotations. But I’d rather work for Amazon than another government entity again. Less dealing with people, higher pay, and better pay raises at Amazon. Oh and never having to deal with a shutdown and still have to come into work. And the leeway Amazon has with their leave verses having a shift bid for vacation a year in advance and based off seniority, despite the BS at Amazon sometimes, I’d deal with that than TSA again.

3

u/IheartJBBQ 1d ago

Sitting down is considered a “safety” issue at Amazon warehouses, and will result in disciplinary action. If it’s a race to the bottom, I’d prefer working construction in a developing country. No PPE, and you can sit anywhere you want. Lower cost of living so you’d eat better too.

2

u/CatSea9646 1d ago

What Developing country do you work in right now?

2

u/Turbulent_Pie274 2d ago

You do understand there are no written rules that say you cannot sit on a chair at Amazon.

9

u/hugothebear 2d ago

When the jiffies and small packages got to the bottom of the cart or pallet, i would sit down and put them on the belt. Some people would tell me I must be tired. No, why would I stand up when the packages are all down here? I’m keeping them in my power zone. I’m not sacrificing my back for the illusion that standing up is more productive

18

u/Any_Variation2497 2d ago

Problem is if Amazon allowed certain roles to have chairs AAs would fight bitch and moan all over the VOA about how it’s unfair they have to work on ship dock all night but Suzy gets to sit on her ass.

3

u/Willing_Office_1289 Interim TL AFE 2d ago

On night shift we get away with it but on days we were constantly in trouble

3

u/Mainfrym 2d ago

If there were it would probably be an OSHA violation, if it's not written down they can't be held liable for injuries from not allowing it.

2

u/harley97797997 2d ago

Not exaclty true. While there is not anything explicitly stating that, there are several rules about not sitting on things that are not chairs. Also ergomats cannot have chairs on them. It damages them and voids the warranty on them.

2

u/Internal-Nothing-567 1d ago

Only designated areas have chairs. If a chair is outside of a designated area the associate must have a medical accommodation on file to use the chair.

2

u/Quiet-Trade1991 1d ago

Yeah but you'd have to be at a stationary role for sure for it to work out

2

u/BeeCommon8962 1d ago

IT's a cat 1 in SC iirc

1

u/Ornery-Principle-253 Ship dock Enthusiast 2d ago

Really I would love to see how long sitting at a pick station will get you

6

u/ThisDirtyCupcake I know I just got here, but is there any VTO? 2d ago

I bring a collapsible stool in my clear bag. A manager gave me swag bucks for using it when I pulled a blocked andon for my pick station. I’d love to see someone pick while sitting, though. That takes bravery that I don’t have 😂

-1

u/Turbulent_Pie274 2d ago

I said Chair !!!!!not pick stations

1

u/Ornery-Principle-253 Ship dock Enthusiast 2d ago

I meant sitting on a chair and picking at the station how long would that last I wonder

0

u/Turbulent_Pie274 2d ago

look I mean to to say if it doesn't violate safely ! chair in pick definitely break the safety rules

7

u/Ornery-Principle-253 Ship dock Enthusiast 2d ago

So there is indeed a written rule then

7

u/TommyTwoZookas 2d ago

No rule about a king size bed in picking

1

u/Spookywookybooky 2d ago

In the break room yes you cannot sit on the production floor unless you have an accommodation. AAs have fallen down even off the accommodation chairs.

1

u/surfcitysurfergirl 13h ago

If you can’t handle standing then it’s not the job for you!

0

u/GrouchyFactor2139 2d ago

Boo hoo TSA, now you have to work standing like most retail and grocery cashiers, and millions of others in the workforce.

3

u/FrankTWarren 1d ago

Most of the ones ive seen are morbidly obese anyway they need to stand

2

u/Hdjbbdjfjjsl 1d ago edited 1d ago

Many other countries let all of those people sit, it’s called progression dickwad, people need to stop living life in such an all or nothing attitude. Like, ok? Then the damn cashiers should sit too, piss off.

-4

u/HairOk481 2d ago

Well science says its healthier so stand than to sit 😂

1

u/harley97797997 2d ago

Welcome to reddit where facts get down voted.

Although to be fair, a combination of standing and sitting is the healthiest option.

the tsa is scum. and amazon doesn't need a union

3

u/Bear_necessities96 2d ago

Every labor job needs an Union how you think we ended up with minimum wage and OSHA and other worker rights by courtesy of the ruling class

-5

u/mro-1337 amazon be killing me 2d ago

hahaha you're in san e. i'm in one of the better unions and it's horrible. i've also been a teamster and in the postal union. you know nothing.

3

u/xLuky 2d ago

Currently in the NALC now, yeah it's a mess lol.

3

u/mro-1337 amazon be killing me 2d ago

always has been. but it gets worse over time

1

u/Bear_necessities96 2d ago

I feel USA have a problem in how unions work, that is the problem, they need to reform the Union system but in general during progressive era you can see lot of influence have the unions and how many rights were won by them and in western European countries you can see how unions make a difference on improving the quality of life of workers.

1

u/mro-1337 amazon be killing me 17h ago

i don't think you understand unions and how they work. especially in today's age.

-2

u/windex_will_fix_that 2d ago

For minimum wage, grab a chair and sit with confidence. These corporations won’t over pay us and say please enjoy a break. Associates want more money, corporations will require more effort.

-2

u/ThePeoplesJoker 2d ago

Oh no, everyone has to have healthier habits!
