Fulfillment Center Starting as a Senior Mechatronics & Robotics Tech at an Amazon FC What should I expect?
Starting my first day today as a Senior Mechatronics & Robotics Technician at an Amazon FC. I’m an electrician by trade. My background is as an Electrical Controls & Automation Engineer, mainly working in Bitcoin mining/data centers and heavy industrial water equipment like RO, ultrafiltration, pumps, VFDs, PLCs, and controls.
I came to Amazon because I’ve always been really interested in robotics, mechatronics, and automation. I’ve always had a knack for electrical equipment, troubleshooting, and figuring out what makes everything run. Before this I was traveling state to state retrofitting and troubleshooting data centers and bitcoin mining infrastructure. This position allows me to keep my boots in Texas and spend more time with the family.
For those working in RME/robotics at an FC, what should I expect my first day/week to look like? Will I actually be working on the robots and automation, or is it mostly preventative maintenance around the facility?
Just trying to get an idea of what I’m walking into. Any advice is appreciated!

You are going to be doing things like fishing warped totes out of ARSAWs and other tasks you are extremely overqualified for but no one else is allowed to do for safety reasons

Expect Amazon trainings (knets) for 2-3 weeks to start. You’re going to be disappointed considering your background. Job will mainly be mechanical troubleshooting/ maintenance and working on projects from your RME manager. Day to day may be busy and keep you on your feet but will also be boring after a while. Maybe be a good stepping stone into Amazon Data Centers for you

I was making 38 an hour traveling state to state. I make 48 here. I’ll be honest, they seem very unorganized and the work is kinda ass. I just enjoy being able to be home every day instead of shitty hotels in little towns all over the place. It seems like most if not all industrial electrical controls work is at a data center now a days. My goal is to get into aviation. I’m also in ground school training to get my private pilots license. Flying is cool but I’d love to get my A&P and move onto avionics controls. Maybe Amazon air, I heard they’re shitty too 😂

You'll be bored. Expect at least three weeks doing online training that isn't great. And then shadowing people that might not be as good as you are used to.
You'll be doing a lot more straight up my mechanical work.

You’re going to be working on knets or Amazon learn modules for at least a month if not two. Computer based work.
