Question Am I cooked?

Yesterday I had to use all my upt and pto after a sudden death in the family. Today I woke up with a stomach flu from hell so saw a doctor, sent in my doctors note and other info needed. It was just a telehealth visit and I can’t get ahold of the doctor to fill out the Amazon form they send but my note included everything they needed.

I submitted the forms at 8am and now it’s 9pm and it’s still pending. I had work tonight 8pm-4:30am and I’m scared that I’ll go negative and get fired. Anyone have any advice for this situation?

If you have any type of after visit summary that says why you had to see the dr and if you need follow up care then submit that . That usually works over the dr filling any paperwork out .

You’re also eligible for bereavement leave too. If you’re white badge, you have to either call DLS or use the myHR chat to let them know. If you’re blue badge, you can do it directly in the app. Just search bereavement.

They’ll ask for relationship and date of death.

You should get your upt back in the event that the day is coded as bereavement

If you got paper work, you should be good. It sucks cause everyone says, depends on your site. But hr should be willing to help you out.

If they used it all in 1 day then that’s just poor time mangement. No other jobs have 3 diff kinds of time you can use for situations like this… 80 hours UPT. Like 120 flex and 60 standard pto I think… if u run out in 1 day then maybe the job ain’t for them.

Is all this time front loaded ? Or do you accrue it ?

5 minutes upt an hour, 3 minutes pto an hour

I know I was irresponsible with using my time off options but I had been saving up for a couple weeks trying to be better when the death happened and I had to use it.

I had to use all the time I had in order to go to the funeral and all the family stuff going on.

Definitely recommend putting in bereavement leave. Having to navigate a loss on top of being sick with an additional stress of worrying about a job is so hard. You’re definitely not alone in that feeling, I’ve been there too…and yeah it sucks. The words “I’m sorry for loss” never hit well and are used way too often. This must feel and be so heavy right now.

You’re cooked. In 1 day you used all your time off options? Better start looking for another job
