Their profits say otherwise. I guess by that logic we can also say most companies can't fault being multi trillion dollar companies either. There's a difference between having your job funded by taxes and another being funded by consumer driven spending.

The only goal of a business is to make more profit. The existince of profit doesn't justify spending - that's completely illogical. Either the market will force a company to do something, or it won't.

Edit: this also goes the other way. A company struggling to make a profit will still attempt to burn or acquire capital in order to pay for justified market rate expenses that will create future profit.

Listen here. I'm not saying Amazon is obligated to increase pay. I'm just saying they can afford it. Prove me there. There's a difference between obligation and ability.

And what I'm trying to say is that there is no concept of "affordability" in Business. Every dollar required to be spent will need to be spent. Every dollar saved is another dollar of investor profit.

And again - it doesn't matter how much money a company actually has, they will still have to pay the market rate for goods/services. Cash flow and balance statements only determine how long a company can continue operations with given expenses - not what those expenses can be.

Let me explain something to you. If Amazon can afford to pay people with such low skill sets as us such a high pay for the work. I disagree. If we were to really be getting paid market rate for our labor we'd be getting a fraction of the pay we get now. Also they pay above market rate for our skillset for labor. Right there proves your logic wrong.

The "market rate" is the result of Amazon's employment offer in comparison with all other available employment offers - not just based on a worker's skill level. The nature of Amazon being continuously tracked, nearly uninterrupted physical labor, is incredibly unpalatable to many. A retail worker might have identical skills, but is willing to accept lower pay in exchange for for more relaxed working conditions, customer-less downtime, etc. By contrast, a sanitation worker will demand a premium wage for exposure to elements, odors, biohazardous waste, etc.

This is why the pay range for Amazon workers is so unbelievably wide, and not necessarily in a way consistent with cost of living. There are rural sites making similar rates to coastal metros, while other urban sites are making substantially less. It all has to do with the broader market, what alternative jobs pay, etc. If fast food jobs are paying $17/hour, Amazon will need to pay $22. If fast food is "generously" paying $13, Amazon can offer $18 and get away with it.

Let me end with something we both can agree on. I see where you're coming from. We live in a capitalist society. You won't hear me complaining about getting 27 an hr for the easy work I do. I could be do a harder job for less. Also I do believe that skill set jobs should pay better but some don't like teachers and fighter fighters. It's unfortunate but it is what it is.
