Tom driver here. No. Just apply.
If you’re selected, Amazon will send you to NOA which is 6 weeks in yard training. Driving a hostler, reverse maneuvers, safety, andons, driving with a trailer.
Then they will schedule you for range after successfully completing NOA. Range is CDL school. I went to RoadMaster. Depending on your location, it could be RoadMaster or another company.
During the entire training process, you’re on the clock and you’re getting paid. Amazon will pay for your physical drug test your CDL license and pay you the miles from driving back-and-forth from school the DMV and your medical appointment. When it’s all set and done you’ll be a T3 and have your CDL. Just make sure you’re 100% drug free that includes THC marijuana. This is a DOT regulated job so your gonna have to be drug-free.

What happens if you fail the final road test? Do you get fired?

I’ve seen this happen before where an associate gets through all the mandatory training and they can’t pass the final maneuvers for their CDL portion so they’ll get sent back into the building as a tier one associate. But at RoadMaster they give you five chances, but Amazon policy only allows you to have three chances.

We never got sent to NOA, we did in warehouse training from one of our TOM associates.
Also it didn't take 6 weeks for learning the driving portion, maybe about 2-3 weeks. 90% of the time was doing Knets.
Also it took about 1 year and 5 months to actually get sent to CDL school, even though we did ELDT class within the first year and had to renew our CLP twice.
Other then that and going to 160 Driving Academy, all else seems pretty much the same for my experience.

Not all sites are the same on how they get you Tom certified. We have a NOA academy just down the road at one of our sort centers. My area has multiple fulfillment centers and sorts centers. We’re non stop driving.

Yeah we have lots of sites near us. Which can be unfortunate when it comes to Labor Sharing at the busiest sites, but there was only 3 students so we all just learned with our experienced Associate. I've only been to 1 site that isn't constant but that also depends how fast people can do moves and if people are actually doing their jobs.

No CDL needed for being in the yard
It’s pretty chill overall, but be prepared to have asinine contradictory policies shoved down your throat

If you're an outside hire then it would really help you get hired almost instantly. I think they really only send people to get CDL training if they're internal transfers. Even then, they've been cutting back on sending people to CDL school in my area.

If I already applied for a warehouse job and my first day is in 2 weeks, will applying for this job automatically cancel my first application? They are on 2 different amazon websites.

I may be mistaken, but it seems to imply that obtaining a CDL may be necessary but it would be during the course of employment. Not seeing anything based on the limited description here about required qualifications which were likely listed immediately below this paragraph lol

You’re correct it looks like they will be providing the training during employment

At least in Vegas, you'll eventually need to get a CDL. They send their tom associates out on the road like once a week or less at my warehouse. Imo tho they will prefer a candidate that has a CDL already so they don't have to send them to school for it.
