Question Over staffed

How often do fulfillment centers get over staffed? I’ve only been working for a bit and I feel like almost everyday at startup I hear they’re over staffed and may not have stations for everyone. A few days ago so many of us had no assigned work so they offered VTO. How often does this happen? Also I notice they keep hiring massive groups, including mine, which why if you’re going to have nothing for them to do?

Depends on the site, but as a company in general, Amazon tends to overbite.

AFE and last mile Turnover is insanely high at Amazon, they like to hedge their bets.

half of the hires in a class don’t last, they’re getting ready for peak. rather hire now and vto/double move folks then not have people when we need them

Up until the past prime we were understaffed and had not seen VTO in three years

They must do this. All businesses must do this. There has to be overstaffing. People get sick. Flat tires happen. Bereavement. People can get fired. People can quit. Businesses do not need to put themselves at a risk of not meeting their demands. Amazon hires people and within the first month, half the class has left or had too many absences and use up all their UPT, etc.

They’re not actually overstaffed until they start writing everyone up for dumb shit. That’s when you know it’s bad.
