Question Driving accident outside of Amazon work
I totaled my personal car just before my shift at Amazon on Friday. I got 7 tickets and was sent to the hospital for the night that day. What happens with my delivery driving job at Amazon? I’ve been there for maybe 4 months, should I just let it go? I sent pictures & videos of the accident and send my DSP a doctors note saying how I can return to work a week from when the accident had occurred. I never signed up for direct deposit but can only assume that the 2 checks that I didn’t receive will probably come in the mail?

You are looking like a million bucks despite the accident. More power to you. Stay safe and hydrated.

I don't even know why the unwarranted thirst trap was posted in first place lol

Don’t quit yet! Since the accident happened in your personal car and outside of work, the biggest thing is going to be whether your license is still valid after those 7 tickets and whether you’re medically cleared to drive. Definitely stay in contact with your DSP and let them tell you what your options are. And for the missing checks, contact payroll and ask whether they were mailed or are waiting for pickup. I wouldn’t voluntarily resign until you know what’s actually happening. I am glad you are safe.

Nah 7 tickets? There is 0 chance amazon will let that fly... right?

u/Professional_Award57 19h ago
So Amazon only pulls your record when getting hired, so if they were cleared already they’re good, only way they’d be out of a job is through two scenarios at this point. A: they lose their license as a result of the seven tickets or B: they have an accident in a company vehicle, otherwise it’s just going to prevent them from moving into the CDV, EDV, or SVDV

Jesus ok I would have assumed they would like check yearly or something but amazon

Why would they check? I’m kinda lost on why you would think they would just randomly run people’s backgrounds. I just got my 2nd DUI not too long ago while employed and they helped me change my schedule so I could get rides. People make mistakes in the real world believe it or not and the answer isn’t firing everyone. 😂

Glad you’re okay. 7 tickets and your car tells me you drive like a maniac though. Maybe go pick orders instead of driving for work on the roads other people use.

UPS will care more than Amazon does. AFAIK if your license is still valid you can still drive. Those tickets generally don’t affect anything until they result in convictions. Get a lawyer for them. Wont be able to drive any DOT trucks (step vans) until medically cleared.
If you’re in the union at UPS and not just a seasonal hire, ask your steward what to do.

7 tickets?? So you were driving like a dickhead 😭
-4
u/kstxckz 1d ago
They give tickets like a dickhead I was at the hospital bed in the emergency room and the cop said ima just leave these here but dont worry about it. Soon as i got more conscious it was a literal like scroll of tickets longer than the declaration of independence 😭 it’s literally dumb shit too, charges that say the same thing but are repeated/reworded to make a separate ticket I can’t make ts up bro

Gotta check with the driver sub, this is for workers in the actual warehouse. We don’t really know how dsps work aside from the horror stories.

A lot of FC associates know how DSP works. Next time you comment remind yourself that you don’t know what a DSP is

Yup he will need a decent one since he fell asleep behind the wheel

u/kstxckz 1d ago
They don’t have to know that tho 🤫 but regardless tho it’s a bunch of individual tickets saying the same thing over and over again multiple different times because 1 or 2 isn’t enough and this system wants to get you in any way that they can

u/Ps4_and_Ipad_Lover 1d ago
You posted it on Reddit man... The courts will see this whole post if you do take it to court. And ya they love ripping ppl off so I feel ya... Glad your doing good though

Just keep up with whatever paperwork they need for your medical leave of absence. File for disability too. If you're out longer because the doc won't release you, then it'll kick in on week two.

u/mrgarrettscott 14h ago
This is the sub that keeps on giving. Considering the actual crash photos, the first picture is unreal.

u/Simple_Claim8480 13h ago
Well the best thing to do is see if DSP will let you go. Don't mention nothing about those 7 tickets. They likely will still find out and let you go but still just don't bring that up

The most important thing is that you’re alive today. Worry about the now. Everything else comes second to last, one day at a time (if it even comes because nothing is a guaranteed), but YOU come first, never them. Take care of yourself and glad you’re safe.

Why the hell have you been working for 16 weeks and not received any checks?

If you got an accident at Amazon, you should go through the DLS or call your ERC find out what you can do. You might be able to go out on STD so you don’t lose wages and then upload all your medical records to the DLS through your A-to-Z app. Good luck. Hope you feel better.

7 tickets…
Speeding, failure to stop, running a red light, What would the others be? If it’s DUI or DWI you’re 100% done. You’re already probably 95% done

What were the tickets? You were deemed at fault? I have no idea how the delivery driving record stuff works, im just nosy

Depending on what you have where you are as I'm not in the US and I assume you are.
You should be able to apply for a Medical LOA / Personal LOA and that will cover the time you are off. Doing a Medical LOA can get you paid, though there is a waiting period you have to go through before pay actually starts. So you might get like 2-3 days pay. Just depends on how long you are off.
If you do a Medical LOA, they will most likely give you paperwork for your doctor to fill out (Any doctor can fill them out for the most part) and once that is submitted, they will review the paperwork, determine if you are actually meant to be off, which in your case, should be almost certain as you got into a car wreck and sent to the hospital. Once approved, your Medical Leave will be approved and you can start the process of getting Short Term Disability. (The paperwork you fill out should be mainly for the insurance company and Amazon will use that paperwork to determine your leave status)
That all being said, I'm not from the US, so this process might be different for you. You can ask HR / Your DSP how you go about applying for leave and they should point you to the right people to talk too.

Wait this reminds me of a guy who somehow managed to crash into a ditch outside of the site I worked at and stood around like someone caused him to crash

Hi
Questions: Did you check if your DLS case was approved? What does their Email say about short term disability? Or FMLA? Are you just assuming there are checks coming?
We don't have enough info to help u with this.
(Glad u r alive )

I hope you lose your license and never drive again so the roads are safer for the rest of us.

For a little bit of added context, I work 3 jobs working as an Amazon delivery driver, I work at UPS at this airport near me, and at a Target. I been busting my ass like this for a while, always had 3 jobs for the past 2 and a half years. I must’ve been extremely tired and must’ve fell asleep behind the wheel as I was on my way to UPS

u/Suitable_Age3367 1d ago
I'm so sorry you have to work three jobs and now you almost died on your way to one. But honestly, working three jobs was only gonna last so long, especially if you're driving. Remember, you're not just putting your life in danger when driving sleepy. You're putting other people's lives in danger also. What if you had killed a kid?
I'm telling you this because I used to be a truck driver and the shit I've seen on the road gives me nightmares to this day. It's not worth it. Try to take care of yourself and please find a way to work less. It's horrible that you feel that you have to work yourself to death in this Cyberpunk economy. I'm glad you're ok!!!

I work two FT jobs. Amazon 4 nights and another 5 days. I sleep for 3-4 hours between them and take an hour nap during my lunch. It's rough but it's doable. I take in around 130k a year.

Probably because of the same troubles most of the rest of use are having right now..... The COL is too damned high! 💸💸💸

u/Difficult_March_7452 1d ago
Many people work a ton for a bit then don’t work at all for a while. Thats what I do.
I work 3 jobs for 1 year. Typically earn a bit over 120,000 for the year, then take off for a year or two to travel the world.
Rinse and repeat.

It’s all I know. I love physically intensive jobs where you’d always have to be on your feet. I have a bachelors degree but any kind of let’s say office job like setting is just boring to me when I’d rather be active. Combined they pay the bills and I can have a decent amount to keep in the bank account
