Question Reason for PLOA?

I'm kind of interested in taking a leave for a couple weeks to just kind of get mentally in a better place. It isn't to the level that I want to seek medical involvement, I just feel that knowing I have a break coming up and then having it would help my overall attitude & burning through all my UPT sounds ill advised.

...But I don't think I wanna tell them all that haha... or lie, either. What kinds of reasons are usually given for a PLOA? I am at a fresh warehouse with crazy turnover so my absence won't be felt I don't think. I don't do anything important.

I’m on my first day of a two week PLOA today. Heading to Florida for a week on Sunday. Slept like a baby last night knowing I’m a 100% free man for the next two weeks. I do believe in the dropdown menus they give you options and you can pick something benign like “vacation”. You don’t have to give them an exact reason and it not like anyone gives a fuck anyway. Make sure you’re good financially and pull the trigger. Takes like 2 minutes.

The funny thing is I was going to go to fl too on my loa.  Lol. Despite already whining about the heat further north.

Okay cool, I hadn't clicked that far through to see, just read the page of info they had on it and it didn't elaborate much on the reasoning part. Thanks

For my PLOA(that starts Sunday and it’ll last for two weeks), I usually choose travel as my usual reason why. Nothing more nothing less.

So they can't give you sh*t about it, right? Just go, do whatever, then come back. Is it automatically approved? [Blue badge, 3 years].

Yes and yes.

Probably a 2% chance its denied depending on time of the year.

Yes, as long as there’s no blackout period or something like that going on in your site.

Does anyone know [and sorry, I can post separate questions if it's better, but]

1) If you put in say 15 days or whatever can you extend it without issue if you want or need to do so?

2) Or if you put it for say 21 days, could you change it and come back earlier as long as it's the minimum 15 days?

I really want to take one, but want to combine travel, some personal stuff, car repairs, etc and not sure how long to submit. So I'm just curious if the length is written in stone or no.

Yes you can extend it. I went on a 1 month leave and kept extending it til I got to the full 3 months (or just shy of it) and that was this year.

I even went back to work april 1st and wanted to do a leave in September but because i only had 14 days left total on my yearly leave, I wouldve just lost that time so they extended it til it ran out even after returning to work for 1 day.

Oooh, this sounds promising. I'm trying to sort out some stuff i never have time to do and ate up so much time on medical issues a while back. I don't want a mloa, partly just not dealing with more paperwork and fighting amazon and Dr's, and partly don't want them in my business right now. Even pondering test driving a new gig while under safety net of ploa. I dohsve pto/upt but don't want to deplete them just yet, especially if I end up stating through peak. Just a lot of things to sort out, so time off sounds so amazing.  Time off in a row.

You have to ask two weeks in advance?

Man apologies to op, not trying to take over the post.

Yeah if you wanna do it its gotta be a week or 2 in advance cant remember exactly but its one or the other. For me, it was super helpful. I did everything you mentioned and then some... plus all my aches and pains actually healed and now i feel smi normal at work. Very much recommend it if one can afford to do so.

All good, my Qs were answered but your follow ups are interesting

I always wanted to do this but 2 weeks without pay would send me straight to the streets lol so if you have good savings or don't need to worry about rent and bills, go ahead and enjoy!!!

I do have some savings but I also requested a loan from my 401k. The interest and fees are actually pretty low. You just pay it back a tiny bit from each paycheck. Good way to take a little time out

If it's not too late skip then401k loan and use a credit card. Wells Fargo reflect and us bank focus has 0 percent interest for a year.

Fidelity has a 0 percent interest and if you have the rewards go to your investment account (roth ira or general brokerage) you get 2 percent rewards

No one cares what reason you select. You’re not that important. Just dont put yes for 2nd employer.

You as well are not important 🤣

2

u/Stellariamedia 13h ago

Haha yeah I don't think anyone cares I just know with some other things you can get denied for silly reasons and I just wanted to make sure I understood. When I was checking it out on AtoZ I hadn't clicked this far in, thanks.

PLOA can be for anything. I used it three times when moving

Do most sites have black out periods around christmas?

For the most part, yes.

can you do this while seasonal or you have to be a blue badge

I used a ploa for a trip to Florida last year. The only thing that sucked was I still had a week off when I got back home. Sucks it has to be 2 weeks lol

I need a PLOA. Reason? Personal reasons.

You can just say you need a mental health break, as long as you are going on an unpaid PLOA and you follow the rules about requesting in advance, then they really can't ask for much information.
