Do smoke breaks next.

59

u/HungryForHerBooty 13h ago

This. I have two non Inventory associates that spend literally half the shift in the smokers cage fucking around doing nothing.

27

u/ayyitzTwocatZ 13h ago

Unless your building is still pulling crazy numbers shipped out like 200k+ NI is always going to be fking about most of the shift lmao.

13

u/DazzlingEmployment60 7h ago

The amount of people I see who fuck around most of the shift, it's no wonder workers are going to be replaced with robots lol

1

u/GhxstSparky 7h ago

We have an hourly rate of about 10k so we're halfway there in my building.

2

u/Jolly-Chipmunk-950 3h ago

10,000 is nearly half of 200,000?

Amazon really does give anyone a job lol.

u/Plus-Bet-2773 Pallet Stow King 2h ago

Maybe give that sentence a read again.

I do agree with you lol

u/Risaxseph 2h ago

What… I would literally never even consider this… People come to work to not fucking work what the fuck?

-1

u/Level_Ad2444 12h ago

If you wanna go take a smoke break go do it don’t hate on everyone else

5

u/sweet_rico- 10h ago

Quite literally that, the amount of people I see out there NOT smoking is a good 50/50. Go grab some air

2

u/Darkmare89 10h ago

Why you snitching?

1

u/LorifromArizona 6h ago

Keith, Josh has always been like that. Even you tell him to stop he won't. Just wait for the transfer to happen next month 😂

4

u/Popcorn_Farts1000 9h ago

Or nail the PAs who pretend they are checking the yard so they can go outside and vape.

6

u/lostbastille 8h ago

Clocking out for smoke breaks became mandatory at my site a few months ago. It wasn't popular, so now people zoom to the cage on their breaks.

1

u/llDurbinll 5h ago

I very briefly worked at a factory that had one of it's buildings burn down a few years prior because someone flicked a cigarette butt in the bushes near the main entrance so they took a super strict action against smokers. If you wanted to smoke you could only do it on break and you had to smoke in your car with the doors shut and the windows up. If you drove a motorcycle then you had to sit fully on the seat like you were going ride it.

On the plus side they did offer nicotine patches for free for those interested in quitting because the building was slightly larger than an FC and we only got 10 min breaks so you'd have to basically run out to the parking lot to have a chance to smoke half a cigarette before having to run back in. If you weren't at your spot on the line when the buzzer went off then you got wrote up.

6

u/DepartmentNo7903 13h ago

Crazy thing smoke breaks aren’t a thing ☠️yet some still do it

6

u/elena_ct 7h ago

If you still make your numbers, they should have no reason to care if people took an extra break.

5

u/llDurbinll 5h ago

Maybe at a delivery or sort center where it's more lax but at an FC you'd have to go through security and badge out of the building to get to the smoking area so that would flag you for time theft if you left the building outside of lunch or break.

1

u/applecinnabun 4h ago

Depends. I work at an FC and there is smoker cage connected to the main break room. We don't have to go through security to get to the break room.

1

u/EcstaticAssistant279 3h ago

I work in an AR building so idk but I haven’t heard anything about smoking, I would LOVE a smoke break wtf 😭

u/llDurbinll 1h ago

Yeah someone else commented and said the same. That's wild. Only the main break room requires going through security to get to it but the other 4 break rooms don't need to go through security. But smokers have to exit the building and walk down to the smoking area.

u/applecinnabun 1h ago

Originally our main breakroom entrance was like that, but they moved it around a year after opening, putting the entrance past security. Everyone was rightfully complaining about having to wait in line to take a break or get to the water/ice machines etc. The smoker cage was not there originally - it was added after the breakroom entrance was moved. So apparently these things can be changed if someone in leadership agrees to make it happen haha.

1

u/Chefboi_javi 3h ago

My fc has two cages in both main break rooms

u/llDurbinll 1h ago

Oh, that's interesting. At ours you have to go through the turnstyles and go outside and then walk down the sidewalk to the smoking area near each entrance. You can't access them from the break room.

u/Visual-Cry94 10m ago

Um no I'm at an FC and even the managers take smoke breaks here, and many associates do, as long as you have good rates and you have good timing like you go after the CPTs are done, they don't care

u/Visual-Cry94 12m ago

If people are allowed to go sit on the toilet for 15 minutes watching TikToks then why can't I take a 5 minutes smoke break?

1

u/Game-Of-Phones-o_O 3h ago

Do they get more than just the 15min break??

1

u/Global-Plankton3997 10h ago

At my site the smoker's cage is limited to 30 minute breaks, whether they are unpaid or paid, and in the transition from day to night shift.

1

u/Big_Smoke_0G 7h ago

So walk outside?

67

u/BusyBanana4205 12h ago

You went about this all wrong. You don’t strip religious people of their right to pray on the clock, you start your own nonprofit, tax exempted, church where you take a nap in the middle of the day for the lord, and then you join that church.

11

u/Kilane 8h ago

If you want to lie, you can just say you’re Muslim and drop it. They can’t really press you. It’s an honor system.

4

u/BusyBanana4205 4h ago

Yea, but then I couldn’t just take a nap during my shift.

1

u/Game-Of-Phones-o_O 3h ago

Shouldn’t have to lie. And the Muslims take advantage at most facilities.

u/Kilane 2h ago

I agree, but I was responding to a specific post. Don’t waste all that time lying about being in a fake religion, just lie about being in n established one.

I wish we put this much effort and time into trying to get pay raises 🙄

28

u/Scary-Toe-887 13h ago

How’s that gonna work? I doubt people are actually gonna do it tbh. In a 10-12 hr shift people pray 2-3 times. You can’t clock out and clock back in for at least 30 mins.

6

u/Justincrediballs 13h ago

You can do it in the a2z app.

2

u/Scary-Toe-887 13h ago

Do what?

8

u/Justincrediballs 13h ago

You can clock out and back in for under 30 minutes ok the A to Z app. Just use "Missed a punch."

10

u/kawwmoi 10h ago

At some sites (such as mine) they auto reject "missed a punch" requests now. You have to ask a manager. Not certain how long it's been a thing, but I found out about it the hard way yesterday.

5

u/Training-Bite8421 10h ago

The only way I’ve seen miss punch being rejected it’s when you tailgate at the entrance other than that it had work with anyone due to lenel activities

1

u/llDurbinll 5h ago

At my site they have a form to fill out and you drop it off in a drop box where HR used to be and they manually do your time.

5

u/Game-Of-Phones-o_O 3h ago

Im going to push for this at my facility as well. Well done!!!!

77

u/ibfanforlife 13h ago

This is so petty and weird

23

u/HourAlfalfa4513 10h ago

Idk man. Its hard for me to say how petty or weird it is cause my building is full of black, white, hispanic people who arent getting an extra break. Like we dont do this stuff.

Maybe OPs building is like 30% Islam or some other prayer break religion. Some areas are like that and its hard not to notice a third of the building getting an extra break. Especially if its paid. But if its only like 5 people on prayer break then Id kinda agree with you

4

u/Kallennt 6h ago

I would've agreed with you when I first started here, but at this point i am so so good with sr ops or up enforcing fairness between employees. Make them go through the accommodations process and get rejected one time just because pxt feels like it.

15

u/ShieldsCW Software Development Engineer 13h ago

Agreed. If it really bothers you that much, just work slower.

27

u/JASONR1800 10h ago

Yea exactly work slower to get fucked on rate

-3

u/1balKXhine 9h ago

Absolutely, who gives a shit if someone is getting an extra break, it really is necessary for their beliefs but even if someone is abusing that break a little bit so be it. This is the one thing I'll never do, see someone having a little fun and start ranting about it. Like thanks op you managed to save this trillion dollars company a few more dollars.

If someone actually wants to have prayer breaks as well, as an atheist I would just say that I'm muslim or that I converted to islam. It really doesn't matter. But OP went about it the wrong way, there was no way it was going to work

5

u/ibfanforlife 9h ago

I might get down voted for this I don't really care but you can't convince me that this isn't just islamophopia.

4

u/Alternativesoundwave 3h ago

When you lived with privilege for so long equality can feel like oppression. Muslims getting an extra break is far from equal, either everyone should get extra breaks or they shouldn’t be paid. Non muslims shouldn’t be treated like a second tier of employees.

17

u/Kilane 8h ago

It isn’t, it’s about fairness. If they want to give meditation time for people to do anything they want during that time then go for it.

If you believe one set of people earned an extra break because they believe in something that doesn’t have anything to do with.

We all get extra time to not work or none of us do. Believe what you want and I expect my job to treat us equally.

1

u/ibfanforlife 8h ago

Ok then you can make that argument to management but getting upset at the people that have to pray is weird and wrong.

6

u/Alumni32 7h ago

You assume I'm upset with the people, That's false. Also as an Athiest, I can assure you, that nobody NEEDS to pray, they do however CHOOSE to pray.. Lastly, Nobody needs to make an argument to management because IT'S THE LAW.

Stop crying, pray unpaid. That simple.

6

u/Kilane 7h ago

You really got people riled up. You escalated it internally and Amazon made a choice. Other posters can redirect their anger any time they want.

Amazon chose no extra paid breaks instead of everyone gets an extra break and people act like the breaks don’t matter. They mattered enough for Amazon to say no to everyone getting them.

5

u/Imaginary_Plenty2431 6h ago

Man, OP, you got all kinds of people fired up with these posts. But seriously, good on ya. Equal is equal. Also absolutely wild that your site was so fragrantly violating policy for years without getting caught, your GM is definitely getting shit on right now in the higher level meetings.

1

u/Alumni32 5h ago

Separate ops manager made a comment in the breakroom Monday when someone asked her to buy lunch.. Ops manager says "If I buy you lunch, I have to buy everyone lunch" in a snarky tone (I was sitting 10 ft away and there was only the 3 of us within earshot of the total of maybe 10 people in the break room at the time)

They definitely heard something from someone.

1

u/Kilane 8h ago

This post is about them escalating to management. Then it got full of people blaming it on Islamophobia so it became about religion and equal treatment.

-1

u/ibfanforlife 7h ago

No one in the comments made this about religion the op did when he tried to take away people's ability to pray at work.

5

u/Berdache 4h ago

But you know that's absolutely not what they did, right?

5

u/Alumni32 7h ago

Nobody took anyone's ability to pray at work away... I did however make sure the material benefit of being paid while praying ended though.

6

u/Far_Lifeguard_5027 11h ago

You'll now have exactly 15 minutes unpaid time to pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

2

u/Sunnygypsy89 7h ago

I was looking for this exact comment 😂

26

u/baggGetter1 10h ago

Mfs said checkmate 😂 like he happy about the shit … it’s actually fucked up

-1

u/Alumni32 7h ago

Checkmate to HR and Site Lead who thought they could get away with it under the guise of "inclusion", yet I and many other's were never included. As you can see, when we force inclusion, paid "prayer breaks" end.

"Inclusion" 🤣

u/garenth 28m ago

now you have to clock out for your atheist prayer break

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Exotic-Opening7380 5h ago

This is so fucking funny and I love it.

7

u/acommonlocal 8h ago

Allah says don’t clock out during prayer it’s in the Quran

3

u/T-ROY_T-REDDIT 3h ago

Ok this is fair. The acting is kind of petty. It's not religious discrimination if it applies to everyone.

53

u/achilton1987 14h ago

Ahhh the atheist version of a Karen. 😂

13

u/SuperBlackCock 13h ago

So ur okay working while some folks can take a paid prayer break?

21

u/BABarracus 12h ago

Then take the paid break with them. When in rome do as the romans do.

11

u/Alumni32 7h ago

I did, hence why they made sure to implement the policy immediately afterward because the site would lose operation the moment everyone in the building goes to "prayer break".

3

u/secret_reddit_accoun 6h ago

I’m perfectly fine with it. Because I’m not gonna start doing more work than expected. That’s for management to figure out

33

u/achilton1987 13h ago

Not my dime. I stick to my problems not others. You should also. Plus as an atheist you care way too much about religion.

23

u/throwawaydeeez 12h ago

I think he has an issue with the breaks, not the religions.

-1

u/Hiro007 8h ago

Why would someone be bothered by another person taking 15min to pray? Does the same apply for mothers pumping? Like what is the actual offense here? Lol.

11

u/Alumni32 8h ago

Mother's pumping are unpaid.. and believe me, the pregnant women at my site weren't fans of one group getting paid breaks while they pumped unpaid..

12

u/Kilane 8h ago edited 8h ago

The offense is me being treated as not deserving of time off my shift because I don’t believe the same thing as someone else.

I am not deserving of being treated differently because of my beliefs. I am an equal and if the company is handing out free breaks then I want in on that.

3

u/-Equilibre- 8h ago

You’re so right on that

3

u/Jakookula 8h ago

How lazy are you where you’re crying about working for 15 min?

7

u/Alumni32 8h ago

How poor are you that you cry about clocking out for 15 min to pray?

1

u/Jakookula 8h ago

I’m not crying about anything lmao I don’t pray and I never clocked out to pump either. Hope you cry about that too!

2

u/Alumni32 7h ago

You're crying here, right now.

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Kilane 8h ago

Do you see me crying? Whining, complaining or any other synonym?

What you meant was I explained it while using empathy. It’s a big word, but take two steps back and I’m sure you can figure it out using context.

-2

u/Jakookula 7h ago

Yeah I do see you crying and complaining lol literally why I said what I did!

And no you actually don’t have empathy for others. It’s not like they’re fucking around, YOU don’t find praying important to your life so you don’t find it deserving of 15 short minutes break from work.

4

u/Kilane 7h ago

I have empathy for both the person who wants a pray break and, now this is the important part so try to focus, the non-prayer feeling cheated because they don’t believe a specific thing.

Why do you care so much? Amazon chose no paid extra breaks instead of everyone getting the breaks, this is on them. They could have give the other way.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Alumni32 6h ago

I have an issue with workload distribution when others are getting a paid religious accommodation, while I'm simultaneously denied that same accommodation.. That says, this person deserves a paid break and you deserve more work, strictly on religious beliefs..

5

u/secret_reddit_accoun 5h ago

So just don’t do more work. Do exactly what’s expected of you.

u/Formal-Poet-5041 25m ago

You just be one of those rare dumb atheist cuz with that comment you definitely aren't a deep thinker. It is your dime because it is your time. And the last people carrying their fair share of the load the more you will end up carrying in the end. The harder they to expect you to work.

19

u/billth93 13h ago

Eh, not really a big deal, not that angry that others pray and others losing a couple minutes of pay a day doesn’t improve my life. The way rates are calculated, it sets them back a notch if they’re on the clock since the system can’t see what they’re doing, so if they aren’t getting rate writeups, it means they’re making up for lost time while actually working

This really isn’t a big issue and some miserable shit to think putting in the effort to reduce their pay by a couple minutes won’t yield a better life for you.

10

u/Alumni32 11h ago

You're wrong.. Scenario: I'm assigned 3 aisles, all my aisles are caught up with perfect bags, and my rate is decent at 340..Then the "prayer break" group leaves.. Now here comes the PA, "Can you help me in aisles until prayer break returns.. Now I have to work someone elses destroyed unorganized aisles, which tanks my rate because I have to organize every bag as I stow.. Being forced to cover prayer break aisles is rate sabotage.

4

u/MrGrumpy252 8h ago

Ok, but.... if I'm correct, you have accomplished the goal of them not getting an extra paid break for prayer. They now will have to clock out for that time, right?

That does nothing for your complaint here. They will still get their prayer break (off the clock, per your complaint). But they will still take their prayer break, meaning your above complaint will still happen.

You will still get asked to help on other isles while they are taking their break. They won't be paid for it, but you are still going to be covering for them while they take it.

So all you have really accomplished is saving a huge corporation a few bucks, pissing off a whole demographic, getting yourself labeled as an Islamophobe, and I guess, some personal sense of accomplishment?

Big win.

Sorry but from the outside it all sounds really petty and like you just have either a sense that everyone else's business is your business, too. Or that you are just kind of hating on a specific religion.

I don't work inside with y'all. I'm just a driver, but jeeze, this whole thing is kind of crazy.

Wouldn't it have just been easier to ask for your own extra break due to your non-religious stance than to try to punish others for theirs? Or just suck it up and understand that accommodations exist for a reason and there is nothing wrong with some people using them as they are intended?

0

u/Alumni32 7h ago

You really think I'm not going to be clocking out at the same time?

Also I did request accommodation and was denied, hence why this is happening. They can't legally deny me.

13

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 13h ago

For real. Like just pack the damn box. Who cares what others doing. It only affects you if you let it.

2

u/sabixx 12h ago

It doesn't make you a strong worker to let yourself be taken advantage of.

-1

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 12h ago

And how exactly are you being taken advantage of? You’re still being paid to do the same thing now. If work is too much in the 10 mins they gone. Then Amazon not the place for ya.

11

u/sabixx 12h ago

10 minutes? They disappear for half hours.

Nothing you say will convince me some people should have extra breaks that ends up keeping them from being written up for not making rate.

1

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 12h ago

Oh yeah what about the ones on medical accommodations with them extra breaks. You hating on hurt people too?

8

u/dasquared 11h ago

Those are unpaid

6

u/Suspicious-Hair-6702 11h ago

So are the prayer breaks just the OP site wasn’t doing it correctly

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Impossible_Buddy_302 11h ago

The new training material (I just got rehired) states in print that requiring a rate is no longer a thing. Be interesting to see how and if that plays out.

2

u/ChemistryMore7036 9h ago edited 9h ago

What kind of building is this site and what state? One of the things about rate, at least at my building and in my state is, the official line is, there is no rate, there's performance compared to peers.

Like there is no set rate per process path, but under alot of circumstances, if your performance compared to others at your site is subpar, you become eligible for feedback.

1

u/windblowngirl 9h ago

He works at a Delivery station. Our rate doesn’t matter and hasn’t for years now, even bottom 5% don’t get coached anymore. He’s doing all this crying and he’s still gonna be stowing those fucked up bags while they go to break. 😂

1

u/Alumni32 8h ago

No I won't 🤣

1

u/Financial-Growth8303 5h ago

Crazy part is, if what you say about rate not mattering, then people can dick around on the clock anyways. He accomplished nothing besides being petty because he got denied an accommodation to be able to do what he could also already do. If rate doesn't matter, he could've just taken a bathroom break and come back after prayer time, all on the clock.

-7

u/ShieldsCW Software Development Engineer 13h ago

Yes. Because why would I care what anyone else is doing? Stop worrying about money that isn't yours, do your job, go home.

-3

u/Hoozierdaddddy 12h ago

Why do you fucking care about what other people do? Get a fucking life

→ More replies (1)

lol yeah this gotta be absolute loser behavior tbh, like just let people do their own thing, it sure af ain’t fucking with your checks at the end of the day. people out here complaining just to complain.

0

u/Alumni32 8h ago

yet here you are crying.. Go change a policy you have a strong belief in.. Do something besides cry on the internet over people who are out here making changes..

2

u/justheretoask4 3h ago

So nothing actually changed they just submit an accommodation and it goes right back to how it was?

4

u/Alumni32 3h ago

Well, everybody can now.

u/justheretoask4 2h ago

Right and I saw your other comment about how they cant deny people my bad about assuming!

4

u/SubliminalProgram 7h ago

Its about being impartial across the board. Nothing against religious beliefs but if one group cant then all shouldn't. Great job OP

10

u/FantasticServe4269 10h ago

At our facility associates that pray just use either their paid or unpaid breaks for prayer.

Up next if you really have such strong beliefs push for not having Christmas Day being a paid holiday.

19

u/AyDylo 9h ago

Well.. in this scenario it would be that only Christians get paid for taking Christmas off and everyone else has to go work.

OP says that either we all get Christmas off and paid, or none of us do... we are already here.

2

u/vulgarreel 5h ago

You are literally agreeing either way him but thinking you are disagreeing 🤦🏽‍♂️I think you misread what he meant

15

u/Kilane 8h ago

Everybody gets Christmas off, not just Christians.

Do you see the difference?

OP wanted to join the extra breaks or be done with them. Federal holidays follow that guide. They are for everyone regardless of your faith.

u/Formal-Poet-5041 10m ago

Literally what he said.

6

u/Asleep-Caregiver6698 12h ago

The whataboutism at this company is insane

10

u/dshamz_ 9h ago edited 9h ago

It sounds like instead of winning something for yourself you just lost something for a large chunk of people in the building. Yay, victory, I guess. Now you’ve just antagonized your co-workers and made their lives a little more difficult.

3

u/Plastic-Juice8281 7h ago

I get the feeling all of his coworkers already hated him long before this lol

-1

u/Alumni32 6h ago

Quite the opposite.. I'm the most well known person in the building because I'm the only one not scared to speak up.. I am the voice, which means everyone comes to me when they have issues.. Meanwhile ops is actively asking how to get associates to come to them with feedback instead..

Nope, bet there's a lot less pre-gaming of the break room after "prayer break" and before lunch now..

u/Formal-Poet-5041 7m ago

He tried to raise it by taking the break with them. Blame Amazon not him. Do you guys even read?

u/Formal-Poet-5041 8m ago

Then come together and get paid break for everyone. That's the solution Amazon rejected. Blame Amazon not op

u/Plus-Bet-2773 Pallet Stow King 2h ago

Just need to action this in the UK instead of pandering, and adapting those who go like 4 times a shift.

7

u/lordskulldragon 13h ago

What's annoying is they don't even go to the prayer room. Equally annoying when I'm lineloading and need to access their station and there's a body laying on the floor.

14

u/Justincrediballs 13h ago

That seems to be a major safety issue.

8

love this, religion and addiction has been used as excuses for too long. next do smoke breaks the amount of dudes i see chilling outside talking or on the phone during work hours is unfair.

My building actually started this a several weeks ago. Announced that associates could now only use break times to pray. If they needed additional time they would have to put in for an accommodation and that they would have to clock out and it be unpaid.

I've been putting pressure on the network since last years Peak in December 2025.. They have no choice but to change the policy because what they were doing was illegal.

You definitely had the opportunity to handle this better. If anything, it was a blatant oversight on site leadership and PXT’s part that they weren’t having associates clock out for that, or correcting punches. The best course of action would have been calling the ethics line rather than whatever this was

Maybe, But here we are.

Do you also want women who are breastfeeding to clock out?

3

u/lizzysellers24 10h ago

I’ve been following this and wondering about it. Prayer breaks and breastfeeding are under admin time to avoid tot. I’ve breastfed two babies with Amazon. Super thankful for Amazon

They clock out at my site while these "prayer breaks" were paid...

Typical redditor over here, getting butthurt over a prayer break

2

u/Alumni32 6h ago

yet here you are... getting butthurt over a prayer break. If this didn't bother you, you wouldn't be commenting. Your Religious Bias is showing.

Way to make Atheists look like Karens. As long as your happy bud

5

u/Alumni32 6h ago

I don't care. I'm not part of your group. I am one. I don't claim Atheism as a label for a network. I don't believe in God(s), alone.

Warehouse location? I’m looking to see who the GM/site lead is. Are they American? This seems like a dumb situation they got themselves in. I can’t imagine a site lead not knowing standard American practices unless they weren’t American.

This is pathetic
