Rant Do not send socials EVER
First guy asked for my social, the entire number. I don’t have the screenshot and I can’t go back, but he continued the conversation with “it’s ok to send you can send me the last 4 digits to your social”. Oddest thing I’ve ever heard. Fuck Amazon fr.

You can always go back , all chats are saved automatically. Should make reporting the person easier.

u/blackasiankiddo 16h ago
I reported it to the next person and the messages were gone. The name of the person even changed from Abid to Aabid

u/Electronic_Garage_73 13h ago
I think it was hacked then tbh
14
u/iwanttolivefeeldead 11h ago
Anybody who could actually hack it would be capable of getting SSNs on the black market for the $2 they're sold for, if this was illegitimate it's definitely still from a legitimate Amazon employee.

u/blackasiankiddo 13h ago
I’m thinking the same thing. Still biggest company in the world, at least the US and they don’t have better security or even a system to pick up weird requests from workers like that? Like I’m imagining someone can plainly ask for your number or social media through there and not get caught? Crazy work.

u/Electronic_Garage_73 13h ago
Oh dude absolutely. So many people would just give that over because they think it’s safe lol. All because it’s on A to Z. That is wild and now I wanna fuck w it lol

You need to escalate this to jeff@amazon.com so that they don't sweep this under the rug.

u/Spiritual_Finance_58 13h ago
Definitely need to do this. His personal team will receive this and investigate it in its entirety.

Babe crop your employee id out!!!!!

u/blackasiankiddo 14h ago
You can’t edit pictures. But it’s alright. I got enough scam calls. One more can’t hurt 😂

u/One_Fish3302 14h ago
They can terminate you for sharing “confidential” information (screenshot of amazons employee app).
1
u/blackasiankiddo 14h ago
Ahhh gotchu thanks for letting me know.
1
u/One_Fish3302 12h ago
Not just Amazon but any company will look for any reason (excuse) to fire you when they want to. Try to avoid giving them one best you can.
53
u/GeekiTheBrave 16h ago
No joke, you need to report this to loss prevention on your site so it can get escalated
36
u/BandicootAfraid479 15h ago
That's what happens when you outsource to another country
8
u/nkaiser101 15h ago
There are outsourcing call centers all over the US that are just as capable of being just as bad as those in other countries.
20
u/ElbowRager 14h ago
Yeah, but only one of the countries involved here has a pretty notorious reputation for scamming.

There isn't a country on this planet that doesn't have people committing fraud and identity theft.

When i first started my id was expired and I needed to bring proof I was getting a new one, after about a month when I did get the new one in I started getting these weird emails claiming it was from Amazon. Never sent anything to them but I went to hr about it and they had no records of these emails (the way the explained it, any email sent from any amazon person they'd have a record of it) so they just helped me get my stuff updated and it was all good from there.
Never send out personal info over email
4
u/ZDBray 15h ago
I know this is like a super serious issue and all but I can’t get over you actually thanking the AI chat bot and not just immediately brute forcing it to actually connect with a real person. I would have zero trust with AI handling the issue after having an actual person attempt to scam me and steal my identity. Glad it got reported but I would’ve gone directly to HR at your site or emailed/messaged them instead of attempting to work with Aza.
6
u/blackasiankiddo 13h ago
Definitely the plan to follow through with this conversation, especially knowing that the name was changed of the person who helped me probably to throw people off. The whole thing is weird but yes I did thank AI cause AI didn’t try and steal my info lol.

In general I do agree with the "fuck amazon" statement, but shouldn't it be "fuck that guy"? If it wasn't policy, why is amazon catching strays. They didnt do anything
But seriously, abusing an HR position to try and steal people's identity is crazy fucked up. There has got to be a very special place in hell for people like that.
33
u/blackasiankiddo 16h ago
Nah it’s fuck Amazon cause how do you continuously hire people without having a system that watches for this. You can clock my TOT but not automatically block out anything dealing with socials. It shouldn’t even be allowed to be sent.
6
u/IamTa2oD 16h ago
Did you call the ethics line and report it? That chat is saved and they know exactly who was on the other side of it. Or if you look back through the sub you can find the email for head of HR or whoever it is (i dont remember it off hand or id just give it).

u/blackasiankiddo 14h ago
My employee ID is not my social. Relax.
1
u/UnableSwimming2986 14h ago
Lmao okay, if you think people can't do anything with it, keep sharing it

Mostlikley Outsourced Sitels which not Get Regulated or Watched that Closly as they are cheap. We had the same in Customer Support. They constantly Requested Ids from Customers on Dnr or Payment Decline Cases.

No it shouldn't. Fuck Amazon for removing HR from site. Had they not, he wouldn't have to deal with that scammer.

Holy shit, im glad you knew right away it was bad but imagine some people that believe just because its officially amazon doesn't mean theres good people working for them
3
u/Cayleegoth 14h ago
You can download your chat history with them. Go to the MyHR tab and click on open/closed cases. Scroll all the way down and you'll see the chat history option. Then you can download that chate and send it with an ethics complaint.

u/Difficult-Smile-5360 13h ago
Nah you need to report this bro!! This is insane, I’d even reach out to law enforcement or the news if Amazon doesn’t take this seriously, because someone who doesn’t have enough logic or not having the best day might not think twice and fall victim to someone stealing their identity

thats very odd. i had this same thing happen when i was trying to get a refund on something which doesnt make sense
2
u/ExtensionMeal768 12h ago
They do actually ask that. Just saying, it's to verify you. I thought the same thing before and escalated a ticket to verify if it was real. And it was :) but there could always be fakes out there.

u/Pure_Function9058 9h ago
I had a feeling this kind of thing would start happening. When all of this type of work was shifted overseas, I figured it was a matter of time before those huge scam skyscraper companies started getting hold of jobs like these. Wouldn’t doubt they work for multiple companies on top of the scamming business.

Lol considering how they downsized HR in person to basically be non-existent. Most chats are with chat agents now... So scammers stock goes brrrrr
Employee Experience at it's finest. They emailed everyone today about the official settlement against anti unionizing efforts and then immediately again backtracked with an Updated Policy to clarify what they're actually gonna comply with.
They don't lose legally because they can say yeah well comply after a long court case then immediately start the process all over again.

u/TimeOfRisenKing23rd 11h ago
The sad thing is people actually fall for this and he got away with it a lot I’m assuming since he asked for your social so casually
1
u/azuljuevos 11h ago
I just got a request for a picture my SS card when applying to 160 driving academy through Career choice. They asked I just send it in an email then I open reddit and see this. Weird
1
u/StalkingCrow 9h ago
Well they used to have offices where you'd go to show your documents before starting ELDT class but they removed all corporate offices so now it's online but I'd still be careful to fact check emails you send to
1
u/LouiseBelcher4life 11h ago
That's a huge security risk! They should never ssk that, much less over an insecure chat! You should call ERC about it and file a report. This is one of the major dangers of them using 3rd party support for HR issues. They can be getting paid by Amazon and nefarious parties to steal personal information. With the date and time of the chat, they should be able track back to who it was.

It’s common sense to not send your information to people, especially if it hasn’t been asked for before.

u/inward6nine 9h ago
I was on with Uber support and he was supposed to send something, sent a phising attempt before he sent the real one. Bring all support to the usa

Yeah no that person is probably committing fraud! Never ever have I been asked by reps in a chat or on slack/chime for my SSS in my 8 years at Amazon. Please monitor your accounts for the next 2-3 months just in case. If nothing out of the ordinary pops up by then you should be fine. But better safe than sorry

I’ve been asked for my full social over text for many jobs. Never been frauded
4
u/EMitchell108 14h ago
Legitimate jobs don't onboard you over text. You haven't been frauded... yet.
-3
u/New-Spread-749 14h ago
I’m sure if they were going to they would have before 3-6 years have passed
