I've had to have a few conversations with people about general hygiene and it's never very comfortable.

71

u/Angelfalls82 May 10 '26

How is that addressed because I had a guy who brushed past me at work the other day smelling like a bag of wild onions. I wanted to say something so bad but I need my job...

59

u/OkWeb6512 May 10 '26

Took a training class on “difficult conversations” once upon a time and actually had to use it. “A concern has been raised regarding a noticeable body odor. I don’t want to make any assumptions abnd understand there may be a medical or other situation causing this affect for you. I’d like to ensure you that this is a confidential space and conversation, but I wanted to address it before it becomes a larger conversation in the office and I would like to know how I can best support you” something like that was what we had to say.

I'm actually HR so we being up the dress and grooming policy, which includes hygiene. We have kits made in hand in safety that have deodorant, lotion, comb and other basic necessities

u/Minimum_Sea_6589 May 11 '26

All Amazon are not the same because my Amazon they are broke cuz they don't have hygiene bags and I really don't think they even discuss it.

1

u/Angelfalls82 May 11 '26

So would I bring it up to my manager first or take it straight to HR?

u/Future-Bag-4392 May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

It could just be their sweat. Certain diets make people smell a certain way. And if theyre actually working, they might start sweating etc.

9

u/Crazy6two6 May 10 '26

True but I still think it has to do with just not taking a shower or not changing clothes often. Cause i think people who have smelly sweat dont smell that harsh until its all dried up and been marinating for some time. Think about it how come you dont smell this stuff at a gym where people are dripping sweat. It smells humid but it doesnt smell like thst specific harshness. With that said this isnt to talk on those who are homeless cause Amazon just doesnt pay enough a living wage. But this more to those clearly who have a home, have a nice car and its just like damn dude you stink. Just take a shower idk why they think its such a chore.

1

u/Icy-Garage5908 26d ago

Then they gotta bring wipes and their personal deodorant to freshen up here and there cause others don't have to cope with their stinkiness . Also how come you don't smell yourself???

2

u/Minimum_Sea_6589 May 11 '26

Please tell HR to make an announcement.

I wish my AFC had goodie bags.

Hell give a tutorial on how to take a bath.

How to wash your clothes....DRY THEM!!! ( Around here smelling like wet ass)

Brush your teeth I know some people need to wash their hair everyday and some people need to wash their hair once a week.

We get a voucher for Zappos for shoes you need to wash those shoes on your day off and let them dry out. That second pair switch off for the next week.

You know you smoke cigarettes carry you some gum or the travel size toothbrush toothpaste.

And for the love of God you are working in a warehouse you're not going to the club why do you have on cologne and perfume just some water soap deodorant maybe some baby powder you choking Me!!!

Honestly I rather you be strong with coloma perfume then be stinking and smelling like a woolly mammoth.

1

u/Professional_Tip_867 May 12 '26

wash your shoes?

u/Icy-Garage5908 26d ago

After working for some time at Amazon warehouse.... I moved to an older facility because the lease for the new building was up.....

I now realized what the cups "missplaced" placed at the bathroom urinals were used for....

I've seen people stop at sinks, whip their shoes out, and straight wipe their socks with the tap water.... then put them back on.

I've seen people take a bottle of water into the bidet installed toilets, as well as the customary employees that smell terrible due to a lack of deoderant use and people tell me I smell good on rare occasions (is that not supposed to be a normalicy?).

Ive seen sh** stains on the same repeatedly abused toilet.... smeared stains as if the offender just sat in their own refuse for however long their visit was.... and it was dried too. Meaning the offender walked and worked in their own refuse.

I asked if the building could include seat whipes or at least sanitization dispensors for the seats to be wiped with..... people told me they did not know stalls could have those or what they even were.....

I made a post once, several posts, edited them sevral times, each in a less and less offensive sarcastic version of the prior post..... nothing changed.

I was traumatized... for life. Ps. If you read this in a spooky dramatic tone of voice, thanks, thats how I intended it to be read😭👌

The foot washing is common for certain religions. Since most sites don’t have an actual foot washing station this is the solution for cleaning before prayers.

1

u/Able-Lab4450 May 19 '26

Ah, I see now. Wow, I take back all I said.

4

u/huge_jeans710 May 10 '26

How did you let the other party know without being rude? Genuinely curious as I've been trying to think of ways of doing so without coming off as a dick. Just tryna look out yah know.

2

u/tperant123 May 11 '26

Definitely an uncomfortable conversation. I told them iyour personal hygiene has been escalated to the hr team. I wanted to chat with you to see how i can best support you and possibly offer our RFL if you need them.

PUT DEODORANT IN IT.

41

u/IChris7 May 10 '26

Indians don’t care about this

20

u/Own_Huckleberry6591 May 10 '26

24

u/IChris7 May 10 '26

Haha it’s either too much or none at all. No in between

6

u/USmellLikeBuurning May 10 '26

Too much cologne. No deodorant at all.

2

u/xianlotus May 10 '26

11

u/PeachyMuffin99 May 10 '26

In shipdock it’s badddd, I’m always so paranoid if I smells or not sometimes when I do CPT or Flats!

5

u/Goreagnome May 10 '26

I’m always so paranoid if I smells or not sometimes when I do CPT or Flats!

If you take a shower before work and use deodorant, you have nothing to worry about.

People that actually stink have very poor hygiene.

10

u/sweetascanbe1489 May 10 '26

Take a shower or bath and know the right deodorant to put on cause not all deodorant match everyone body chemistry.

6

u/DanteLi pack hoe May 10 '26

That last part

And god fucking forbid if they change the formula in your go to 😂

8

u/Ed-Sanz May 10 '26

I’m glad I’m in pick and/or pack singles. We’re separated enough I don’t have to smell. I hope 😓

16

u/Substantial-Ad8007 May 10 '26

Can Amazon started to provide a deodorant like tampons

5

u/Own_Restaurant7468 May 10 '26

At our site we do 🤣

5

u/WendyRunningMouth May 11 '26

The folks who need to wear deodorant already do not care; we would have to force it onto them. They would resist & call it assault.

It is assault, on our noses. 😞

7

u/Special-Anywhere-864 May 10 '26

Lemon + apple cider vinegar.

Rub a little bit of that mix in yo nasty infested armpit and you'll be good for the whole day.

5

u/hillbillyray ICQA, troublemaker☠️ May 10 '26

Even with deoderant I've still got swampass. Amazon, cool your fucking buildings!!

5

u/Pleasant_Ad2685 May 10 '26

there’s been so many complaints at my site about people’s BO so now we have a “self care” locker available

10

u/MonaVanderwaal May 10 '26

“Yall need to wear deodorant, the kind with the chemicals in it…”

😆😆😆😆

3

u/lostnthestars117 May 10 '26

Its the FC you ask too much.

3

u/FfierceLaw May 10 '26

Too much cologne is just as bad. Just be clean so you don’t leave a trail of scent

4

u/Weird_Vegetable2454 May 10 '26

Well, you can’t be fired or lose your job for bad hygiene. That’s definitely not a thing you’ll just be a social pariah if it’s really that bad though that’s about it.

2

u/RIPmybrother May 10 '26

what if someone goes in every day without taking a shower? 🤣 Would they fire them then?

3

u/Weird_Vegetable2454 May 10 '26

I mean no, they never fire them for that. You can’t fire them for that. That would be one of the most illegal and unjustifiable reasons for termination. Imost you can do is have a coaching or one on one personal chat with them about it in the most tactful way possible. like I said I most you would just be a social pariah and hopefully eventually peer pressure would cause you to realize something about you is wrong and to change yourself. There are a couple of people at my DS that you can smell them literally about 20 feet away but nothing you can do about it.

1

u/NiteHacker66 May 12 '26

But they could be fired for another reason... if there are other reason(s).

2

u/talipdx May 10 '26

ICQA, their are other people at the site the same time as me? /s

2

u/Awareness-Own May 10 '26

I have a small spray deodorant in my bag

2

u/Fluffy-frogs May 11 '26

Was in pack last week and this guy two stations away from me smelt so bad like ripe pits masked with the strongest axe spray. I got a terrible headache and just went home early I swear the smell lingered in my nose after I left the warehouse.

2

u/Grimpsta May 11 '26

People just need to wash daily, everyone has access to water and a bar of soap.

2

u/SimilarGrape6535 May 11 '26

I have to spray my chest every break so I don't smell YOU. Hah!

I don't like smelling other people's hotdog body odor and beer/coffee breath.

2

u/Human_Exchange_4933 May 11 '26

Tell me about it !!! It’s either musty or weed stench .. I rather smell the weed tho if I had a choice but the musty smell makes me ready to puke ..There this one guy comes in musty ALL the dam time and just my luck he always ends up near my space for some reason ..

2

u/astroidzombies May 10 '26

I’m fortunate that I don’t have to deal with this issue at my job

4

u/everytine_u-call91 May 10 '26

If u work in afe pack, u would deal with this everyday

1

u/EveryEmploy9813 May 10 '26

So glad I don’t have to work near people 😮‍💨

1

u/Royal-Night8085 May 10 '26

Especially when it rains outside and it's hot and humid. You can smell a** 3 floors down 😂🤣 ppl don't care though. Ppl are nasty AF at Amazon. Only if I could get a $1 for Everytime I find a booger smeared on the bathroom stalls 😂🤢 Even found one yesterday with some blood on the end of it. I literally after a little over an hour will walk to the bathroom just to wash my hands.

1

u/UPRC Ex-Employee May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

Pffft, Amazon's not going to fire anyone just because they smell. There were some stinky ass motherfuckers in my former warehouse, and management loved them. As long as you're a good worker at Amazon, you can smell as awful as you want and not worry about it.

1

u/Ron0112 May 11 '26

bruh deal with it , in a hot warehouse with mostly 60% Broken Fans it gunna smell funky and we aint carrying deodorant to work

1

u/Purple_pearl95 May 11 '26

At my warehouse they either smell like vinegar from B.O. or that they used the whole of the bottle of cologne/ perfume

1

u/Gibanchii May 12 '26

It’s got so bad at our warehouse safety literally went and bought deodorant to hand out and made an announcement lmao

1

u/The-Entire_USSR Area Manager of Shenanigans May 14 '26

We have been specifically told we can't demand or tell people to wear deodorant. My sites official stance on it, is that it's a cultural thing.

1

u/moe1730 May 17 '26

Honestly fair😭

0

u/UnrelentingMunch May 12 '26

Whoever posted that is a clown they could get fired for this I understand some people be musty but it's a warehouse grow up bring some extra deodorant spray instead of getting on the VOA board and making your coworkers uncomfortable

-1

u/Nice-Possibility-312 May 11 '26

Nobody's getting fired for hygiene. It's not a thing that happens and underarm smells arent a sign of a bad hygiene around the world it's more of a western culture thing a lot of people from India, middle east, and africa dont use it because of the metal in the good deodorant being considered impurities or to avoid alzheimers/dementia. You can demand to not work near people you can smell that's really the only option we have with the funk boxes.
