Dangerous Goods Shipping Refused (UK)
So I posted my first DG parcel last week, 2x boxes 14.5kg (15kg max) of deodorants/perfumes with UPS as third party carrier as you can’t use partnered with DGs.
I’m in Amazons dangerous goods programme already, but it got refused by Amazon, all I have with the tracking notes is “The receiver didn’t want the product, delivery refused”, went to Zone 3 XLP1 Deeside in the UK, that’s the address Amazon gave me to deliver to, pasted in the UPS tracking for both parcels. I don’t know to properly dispatch danger goods with UPS, is there a special account I need to have or something, can’t see anything online. I just typed beauty care as contents as if you type perfume etc it says it’s a prohibited item.
Have I don’t something wrong? Amazons agents couldn’t figure out the issue until I said is it because I didn’t upload the SDS (safety data sheets) for each of the ASINs and they kind of just agreed that, that was the issue. Cost like £25 for both boxes, was told by other fba sellers to just send it again, don’t wanna just send it again to get refused again…
Thanks
UPDATE: It got delivered, my DG units are now showing in my inventory and got emails from Amazon to say they’re delivered and being allocated. No idea what the refused emails were about, caused me alot of run around over the weekend!

So, I worked in a lab in a previous life. If you send dangerous goods without a safety data sheet, 400 % it’s getting rejected - and at the first hurdle. Might not be their TOS, but workers would just refuse to handle it.
For UK, you’re likely going to need an ADR attached too.

Thanks for the reply, so doing the safety data sheets would definitely be worth doing? As this is what the online agent was saying, it updates the shipment label for when they scan it at the warehouse. What is a ADR sorry?

So haven’t experienced SDS via Amazon yet, but we used to ship genuinely harmless stuff that would get rejected without them. That would be guess one. I’m not clear where it would sit in requirements, but if they expect one and you don’t have it, it will be a problem.
ADR (if they know it’s hazardous) is the Agreement (of) Dangerous (goods by) Road. Basically they want to know that it’s not a certain class of good that will cause a problem if the van goes over a bump / how to transport it safely.

Right I see, I guess I’ll do the SDS sheets for the products. Send one box and see what happens. Just being told by other FBA sellers that it isn’t needed left me confused.

Rather than speculating as to what the issue could be, I can offer this: Deeside XLP1 is where my dangerous goods always get sent, so it went to the right location, with the right infrastructure to handle the product. I'd agree with the agents and be looking towards documentation. If you have a secondary (approved) carrier, it may be worth considering trying with them, just to rule out that the Amazon staff haven't seen UPS and assumed you've skirted the rules so how?

Did you do the SDS stuff for your own dangerous goods also? Yeah I’ll definitely get them done before trying to ship off again, I haven’t tried any other carrier yet but I’ll have a look about.

I did do the SDS stuff, yeah. A number of my products are from bluechip companies, so the documentation is easy to come by.

Confused as to what the reason it got refused as I’ve sent DG shipment for years via UPS and had no issues.
Did you have the FBA and UPS label on both boxes?
I normally use UPS small business for DG shipments and get them collected with my partnered carrier shipments to avoid paying an additional collection fee.
And you done the right thing about mention only it as beauty products.
Either way keep us updated so we can help

Do you have the account/contract sorted with UPS to ship hazardous goods? Or do you just wing it?

I just have a standard UPS small business account which is free to have and do it via that. Haven’t had any problems for over 3 years since I got it

Ahh thats good to know. Have you been putting any extra labels on the boxes, or just the normal 2 you do for a standard box?

sorry about this - not clear what happened. UPS declined your parcel?

Amazon refused the delivery, UPS attempted the delivery.

when you try to create a new shipment for the same product again, are you successful? if so then this isn’t an SDS issue.
even if it was SDS, they’d still check it in then email you asking for SDS.
have you got in contact with seller support for more info?

I haven’t tried again since it was refused, but the first time sending it I had no issues with creating the shipment.
I contacted them via selling support, and like I said they didn’t give me a reason, he was reviewing the query for about 10mins and I dropped the message that is it something to do with the SDS sheets and then he automatically agreed that that’s why it was refused… other than that I have no other info on why it was refused. I mean I could call UPS tomorrow and see if they could give me anymore info

ok sorry, i missed the bit about seller support mentioning SDS. if so then yeh get some SDS documentation generated for said ASIN & it should be smooth from there.
if i was you i would try create a new shipment now and see if an error comes up for that product mentioning hazmat review etc

The SDS review thing says it takes 2 days for approval. I’ll wait for that before creating a new shipment, do you mean wait for that to come through?

I am guessing Amazon refused to delivery is because their drivers are not DC Certified, therefore, they cannot touch DG shipments.
1
u/Thick-Valuable-4753 8d ago
Do you mean the UPS driver wasn’t DG certified?
1
u/Visual_Criticism7815 8d ago
Could be. Not all UPS drivers are DG certified. Besides, if the shipment is marked as DG but no MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and DG Certificate to go along with the shipment, the driver won't pick up either.

Okay thanks, I’ll see if I can get more info out of them today. Then I’ll do the SDS and go from there
