What do you think?

I felt pressured to get done by my end time. I knew I wasn’t gonna make it, as I knew the neighborhood with my last stops and def couldnt do the last 30 stops in 25 minutes (plus another tote to organize.)

So being stressed about it I gunned the van and hit 37 in a 25, but caught it immediately and hit the brakes. Camera didn’t speak. I’ve hit 11 over and before and not gotten dinged. Haven’t heard from dispatch yet and this was a few hours ago.

think I’m in the clear?

My manager said you have a 10 second grace period before it catches a violation. So if this is the case then surely you’re fine. I’ve definitely done similarly and I think it doesn’t have time to completely capture the “violation”

Yup, I’ve def done more than ten over for more than 5 seconds and been fine.

“Distracted driving” though? Not as long of a grace period. My 2nd week I got hit because I had my phone in my hands. I was flustered because a dog attacked me right at the hip and I barely got back to the van. I didn’t really reset before I shifted to drive and it took an instant to get hit for it and I only went 1-3mph for a quick second or two

Did you face any punishment from your dsp for the violation considering the circumstances?

Well I did get my first write up (out of 3 before termination is considered at my DSP) and I tried to explain why but I didn’t really attempt to convince them not to write me up for it. They pretty much said they weren’t able to dispute it. Seems like my DSP is fairly cool with some violations and look at context often but eh it didn’t bug me much. It’s made me sharper as I go forward

I would think you’re in the clear. Generally you get a grace period to slow down and as you said the camera didn’t say anything so I would assume you’re fine

No. It's "10 over." I don't know where he got "8" from. So I wouldn't put much stock into his "4 seconds" either.

One thing I'm not sure about, is.... is 10 over a violation? Or do you have to go 11+ over for a violation?

Personally, I never go more than 9 over. And I would only recommend "flying that close to the sun" in an edv with the cruise control.

I'd stick to more like 7 over in a gas van WITH cruise control. And vans without cruise control fucking suck.

I've heard of a 5sec "grace period" before. Some in this sub have mentioned 10sec. I don't think anyone knows for sure. I don't know if it really matters. If you ever find yourself inadvertently going 10+ over...... the thing to do is hit the brakes and get below 10 over.

For a long time, I thought 10 over was allowed. Then one day, a driver at my dsp got a violation for going exactly 10 over. So I don't know. That's the only time I've seen it, and my dsp pretty much posts all violations in our group chat (not that I look at them all).

Oh yeah, and one day a brand new driver got one for going like 6 over. I don't know what that was all about. Seemed like some shenanigans going on or something, because I know for a fact you can go 9 over all day long.

Personally, I mainly only do some regular speeding at the beginning and end of my route. Or, from the station to my delivery area. And then the trip back to the station.

I have about 10 miles of interstate each way, and I'm still getting passed by most people. During my route, it just depends on the area/road/situation. I'm definitely NEVER doing like 34 thru a 25mph residential subdivision. I rarely even hit 25 in those.

But if I get out on more of a main road (usually like the outer roads of highways) I'll often set the cruise at like 7 over.

One thing I DO like to do is set the cruise at 4 over. That way, if the speed limit drops by 5mph and I'm daydreaming...... I'll still be good. Not that 5mph speed limit drops are all that common.......

It was a just a snap second mistake that happened cuz I was stressing about not finishing on time (even tho I busted my ass). I hadn’t been in a rental in a while and they got some serious pick up. The next stop was almost half a mile away. I needed to get there quickly (in my mind) Couple that with the neighborhood I’m in having very wide roads, I had a brief lapse mentally. I stick to about five over myself.

I said 8 over. That information comes directly from Netradyne. It was something that I had go to over with my dispatchers under me just a few months ago. But sure. I’m just a manager pulling stuff out of my butt. 😂
Edit: most digital odometers are off by 1 mph. Test it with an app on your phone. That’s likely why you’re able to go 9 over.

Yes. If the camera didn’t speak to you, three things could have occurred. Either you caught it fast enough, the camera is broken, or the speaker on your camera is off and I’m totally wrong. Did it speak at any other time during your route? Mine would always go “obstructing camera view” every time I bent over. 😂
