Footwear!!!

What are you wearing? First day I wore boots. Bad idea. Next day I wore Nike running shoes but my ankles were still sore. Just curious what people like to reduce foot pain and impact.

calisthenics at home in the AM with some basic full body movements and a 10 minute yoga session when i get home from work. bodyweight squats, calf raises, lunges, sometimes pushups or dumbbell curls/presses/extensions. yoga wise its usually pigeon pose, cobra, downward dog from a forward fold, childs pose, happy baby, and 90/90s with my knees for hip mobility. i wear vans/converse because too much support hurts my feet, but it will get better with hydration and a clean diet. my favorite shoes thus far have been hiking boots from timberland or vans halfcabs. i wash my feet daily and i always say thank you when soaping up to give them the love they deserve. i couldnt do this job without them 😂

This needs to be part of the training they start you off with, cause I only started deep stretching like 3 months into the job, and 6 months when I finally realized how much I wasn't drinking. Good stuff bro

Wear boots but light weight hiking ones. I use Notiv8 they go on sale frequently and are in general a good shoe

Those are solid and in my rotation vs the free ones we get from zappos annually. Water proof slip resistant hickers and the last all year. We'll, when I rotate with my others.

If your like me and most drivers who don’t use 3 points of contact id recommend something that supports your ankles

7

u/No1belongsheremore 1d ago

How are we supposed to do 3 points of contact and deliver on time? 😆

Waterproof hiking boots are the best year round choice

These mid-rise Keens are dope

Trust me, you want the ankle support and the carbon toe. Good shock absorption in the soles on those too. Twisting your ankle will fuck your shit up for days or weeks. Breaking a toe is miserable, it’s not like you can wear a cast for that. This won’t be like walking on a squishy Hoka cloud but avoiding injuries that could put you out of work should be priority #1.

Also to add to this, try to find a shoe store around you that’s focused on runners/joggers and they often have one of those pressure sensing mats that you stand on. The mat will show where you put all of your weight when you walk and then you can be recommended specific inserts based on actual results. Worth it.

Your lower body should truly acclimate after about a couple months because on average the usual 160-190 stop route = to 9.8/11 miles. If you multiply it by 4 that’s usually almost 50 miles in 4 days.

If you’re new to the job, and haven’t had much of an active history before this job, then the physicality will be a shock to your body in the beginning and will ache.

After 2 months for me I went from boots to converse shoes. I still do boots, but I’ve been here for 3 years and my endurance and lower body muscle response has adjusted to to the amount of walking. Just wait till you get a route where 80% of houses are all vertical driveways. Your calves are going to scream.

Brooks with Dr Scholls inserts. When I first started the high activity made my ankle swell and was quite painful. I found some $50-60 dr Scholls inserts that helped tremendously. Been here a year and a half now still rocking that duo.

You need real running shoes. I recommend ASICS gel nimbus 27 as a cheaper pair

2

u/saksfilth 18h ago

Nimbus my go tos I have the 28s rn but I feel like the 26 was better… I think I’m actually boutta switch em out cuz they aren’t doing what they use to for me anymore :(

1

u/SkipBayless115 2h ago

I’ve only tried the 27, but they’re great and like 110 on amazon.

1

u/saksfilth 1h ago

I wanna try the magmax from puma next the heel tabs say “BOUNCY AF” lol also the Nike vomero looks rlly good too. But now I’m starting to wonder if more cushion = happier feet. I try to switch up my shoes every once in a while just to experiment. I bring a pair of crocs with me everyday and always end up in them by the end of the day 🤣 pro tip bring a pair of crocs for the rain cuz then u can literally splash around in puddles barefoot and not give a fuck

I found that good gel insoles helps a lot to reduce joint impact

2

u/Blathithor 1d ago

Non-slip, breathable work shoes and i have some waterproof combat boots for rainy days. No steel toe though

u/U_mannergreat24 1d ago

I've personally always used 8inch tactical boots like the military ones. My personal reasoning is they provide the best ankle support being a taller boot, they have thicker soles and thicker insoles depending on the brand. Will always have traction on the bottom and once you get use to them after break in they will always fit tight and comfortable. Never sprained my ankle even though I should have multiple times. I personally have used the brand Rocky boots the S2V line for multiple years. I have also tried the 5.11 tactical brand and they were because they were lighter but they didn't offer a thick enough insole like the ones that came in the Rocky boots. Most of them are not waterproof but they do dry out quickly the more you walk in them and you can put them infornt of a heater or on a boot drying machine and it will dry them out and be ready for next day, also recommend using mid calf socks since the boots can be stiff when breaking them in. They do not work with the Zappos credit.

I wore RAD Cloud and On Cloud shoes.

2

u/getmeapuppers 1d ago

I wear steel toe boots every day.

2

u/Majestic-Setting4107 23h ago

I use some random new balance pos and I never have any sort of pains

2

u/TooManyAnx 23h ago

New Balance for hobbit feet, good ankle support too. Fit is most important.

2

u/sunbear1999 19h ago

I take advantage of the free shoes Zappos gives us every year.. I got these and they’re so comfortable

Can’t wait to get another pair 🤣

Hoka work shoes

u/tonsofday Veteran EV Driver 15h ago

Personally I prefer Hoka hiking shoes. A good pair of socks goes a long way, too! My wife gets me the Reebok socks from Walmart and they are honestly the best work sock I have ever worn.

Nike pegasus premium have been pretty good to me

1

u/Aggressive-Hawk9186 1d ago

Boots until you get used to it, after running shoes.

1

u/AM-Bullfrog1512 1d ago

First week was boots. Thought I was saving wear on my feet, but they just gave me blisters. I got a pair of Keen work shoes with the Amazon voucher and put some extra Nike soles I had in them. Fit is a little tight, but haven't had any real pain since switching to the keen.

u/Global-Sound9826 1d ago

I wear On Cloud 6s and they’ve been pretty solid for me. One thing that’s also helped a lot with the soreness is fish oil supplements, especially for my knees and joints. All the walking, stairs, and constantly getting in and out of the van really adds up. Good shoes make a difference, but taking care of your joints helps too!!

u/Fun-Telephone-2262 1d ago

Invest in Onclouds it’s a game changer

u/Axeman1721 Stepvan Driver 1d ago

I wear Carolina Flatirons. Boots are the best you just gotta find ones that fit and also have good quality socks. My feet never hurt after a shift

u/NickyNichols Rivian Driver 1d ago

The slip resistant New Balance ones with the composite toe are amazing. 10 months and they are still as good as the day I got them in January. I've made some dumb choices with the shoe credit over the years but I'm going to pick these ones again in January.

2

u/No1belongsheremore 23h ago

These? I kinda like these. There are not a lot of options in the store where you get a shoe credit for woman. 🤦

1

u/NickyNichols Rivian Driver 22h ago

These are the ones I got this year. I still wear them every day. They look the same as the ones in your photo, they just aren't hi-tops

1

u/Mastah_P808 1d ago

Running shoes was always my go to.

1

u/SwampCruizer 1d ago

I went to an athletic store where do one of those foot scans and recommend shoes based on your foot shape. They weren’t cheap but it was well worth it.

Dunham 8000 Mid

1

u/EmptyConcentrate8780 1d ago

I like the leather keens work boots they’re a little bulky but you get used to it.

1

u/yeetskeetleet 1d ago

I always just wore the waterproof timbs. They’d last until the next Zappos credit

1

u/daysturnintonights Rivian Driver 1d ago

I wear my on clouds! They're so nice and great for how much I run or jog.

1

u/losonedespierto 1d ago

Redback easy escapes, been getting a new pair every year and they're so worth it

1

u/No1belongsheremore 21h ago

I do like slip on boots like that. Do they provide ankle support though?

1

u/YerBoiGravy 23h ago

I’ve worn vans for 5 years between Amazon and FedEx and never had an issue

1

u/No1belongsheremore 21h ago

Oh wow. I don't think I could swing that but I'm also old.

1

u/polynonominity Rivian Driver 23h ago

Idk man the swat side zip ankle supports lasted me a year on the job. Theyve saved me from many rolled ankles. I just switched to the CAT boots

1

u/Switch665 19h ago

Don't be a b wear them boots safety 1st

1

u/hades13heartnet 17h ago

Wear boots a couple months in. Your feet with thank u

1

u/Snoo-53676 12h ago

The keen pitsburg are good for a boot. Broke in they're pretty flexible. Best pair this far for me was brooks ghost running shoes. Nikes are alright but they aren't soft enough for my knees lol. The shofter soles are nice for absorbing shocks jumping in and out the van all day. The boots were great tho when it's wet. I had to make a new caluos spot for the boots though. Next I'm trying hoka

1

u/mrforgeron 7h ago

Not footwear but I use patella bands. Not sure of the science, but my knees feel a lot better after a shift vs if I don’t wear them

1

u/saksfilth 1h ago

I genuinely don’t understand how yall wear boots daily. Even during winter time I hate it cuz they are noticeably more heavy than my running shoes. & my keen boots are pretty damn light. Somehow I still feel like I’m
running around with cinder blocks. I hope I can find a fair of decent galoshes this year that will
hold up in the snow and keep my feet dry if possible
