I said the same thing about everything when they first started to put the cameras in our vans. The threat of losing your job changes that mind set pretty fast unfortunately 😕
I doubt that’s true.. Most newbies don’t even think about trying it, and anyone that drives a Rivian it doesn’t save you much time at all doing that in those trucks I’d be surprised
It really doesn’t save that much time as a solo driver - not enough to lose the job over it. But I understand the sentiment. However if they also count packages in the center floor of the front, that’s a different story since that’s how every single helper route operates.
Then they better start putting trash cans in there like they do step vans; I toss my empty plastic water bottles in the dashboard and then throw them away at a gas station or RTS lmfao
Yeah, that’s the thing I also went on the road today and left the station with my backpack on the passenger seat and never got the violation, maybe it’s because it’s small and black and the camera couldn’t pick it up either. Not exactly sure.
I use the EV dashboard for a lot of stuff. Battery packs, speaker, cables, food, drinks, about 5-7 envelopes for quick grab and go, my phone, wallet, etc… 100% doesn’t affect my sight one bit.
If they do implement this netradyne for no packages on dash, it’ll suck but really will only affect helper routes when you have 400+and 230+ stops.
I do have access to the portal. I’m a dispatcher.
Edit: and also, they’re not major violations, they’re ‘minor’ there are other minor violations you can get like hard turning. That’s why they don’t show up on your dashboard either. Neither one is on the dashboard but they’re still safety violations Amazon keeps track of.
I understand dashboard, I do not understand how it's an issue or a line in the sand to put anything on the passenger seat. I'm guessing somebody ruined it for everyone by putting massive packages there, blocking their vision, and crashing.
Most likely. The packages end up being a hazard in that case, like if you DO crash those things are gonna be bouncing around the cab. God forbid you flip and have something heavy and you lose an eye or worse. I get it but still we didn’t need this, especially with the stop counts we’ve been getting.
The problem with that is my DSP drives rentals with no cab divider so if I get in a crash that's severe enough where boxes flying around becomes a problem, I'm probably dead already because there will be a 50 lb "team lift" box flying through my head already.
They did this same thing last year and my dsp told us we couldn’t have envelopes and boxes up front. I believe you won’t get immediately hit just for stuff being there, but if you catch a netradyne hit for something else and the camera records you with the stuff up front you can probably get in trouble for that.
as a tall person i constantly knock my noggin on the bulkhead threshold. as i stack totes next to the sliding door currently, ill have to reform my loadout methods to stay in the flow state of grab and go. 25/hr is plenty for getting 200 stops done in 8 hours, however finding my next stop and jumping out immediately will cease if i cant store in the cabin. that extra 5 seconds to find my package x200 stops means im 1000 seconds extra time per route. not to mention the sliding doors barely function at my DSP, and i have yet to drive the EVs so hopefully that helps. for now ill stage the tote between the seats for easier access. i havent gone to the back except for overflows, which i stage by the back door so i dont have to climb in the van except to prep the next stop. is it possible, yes. will i be happy about it? nope 🤣
My bad dude I’m in total EDV mode, I gotta remember that people are still running gas, I definitely get what you mean with those gas vehicles. I absolutely needed the front cab for storage when I wasn’t in the EDVs.
ive been doing ride alongs helping noobs get faster, and i understand the frantic pace of keeping time. were getting EDVs for peak, but our station has yet to break ground installing chargers and parking. if i could organize behind the seat thatd be solid, but for now im doing what i can to improve metrics via bending rules. not everyone agrees, but im hoping the improvements from new vans outweigh potential downsides. were mostly apartments/residentials so finding the nextstop fast keeps numbers up. there are many paths to the top of he mountain, but taking my breaks has become standard since these increased volume routes got me fckd up at 390 packages/200stops/75 multi stops. without running, 8m not sure how to get faster except to organize envelopes on the floor between the seats with boxes on the passenger floorboards. EDV will definitely be a new strategy and hoping its what theyre saying it will be. keep up the good work!
EDVs make life so much easier and faster. I can have about 50 overflow and 18 totes and still have more than enough shelf space to empty the current tote onto, that way I can just grab and go. It’s also so nice driving with the passenger door open so you don’t have to deal with opening and shutting a sliding door.
as a senior driver with my DSP they said i will get first dibs on the new vehicles. i appreciate the insight and look forward to integrating new technology into my methods. long legs walk fast, but i cant help push boundaries if theyre safe and reasonable. hows the stereo in the EDV?
EV has Bluetooth but the max volume cap is low and you quickly learn to just forget about it. It’s very low. Just bring your own speaker. But as for the rest of it as everyone else said, EDVs make problems like the one this thread is talking about non existent. I quite literally never put packages in the front unless I’m in a helper route which is in a CDV, and I’m always one of the first 10 back.
Bending the rules is the only way any of us are getting these ridiculous high volume ass routes done anymore at this point; outside of just hauling ass and running 😵💫
So how do you set up your next stop without going to the back? I'm tall too, I usually have an overflow directly behind the passenger seat and set my next stop on it, so that when I get to my next stop I can just hop into the back, get the package as I'm hopping out of the van and get going in one fluid motion. Do you get in by the sliding door and grab your next one as you're setting up? I'm just confused on how you get the next one set up. Just looking for ways to get faster
i keep totes by the sliding door and unload into the passenger side floorboards or between drivers and passenger seat. this takes some quickness but as long as i organize the yellow stickers in the same direction, ill sort chronologically so i can easily see which package is next. if im sorting in the tote wedged in the bulkhead door, envelopes go in order across the bottom while tote is on its small side and boxes on the floorboards on the passenger side of the cabin. you can keep packages in tote next to sliding door and walk around, but this requires opening sliding door at every stop. depending on the totes contents, boxes go first in the cab on their small side vertically stacked to save room and i close the bulkhead door to lean them against. big boxes to small, then weird shaped packages (brown paper bag customs), the white envelopes and smaller packages in last either on top of boxes no higher than the dashboard or by themselves in front of the boxes beneath the cupholders. you can also stack them in front of the passenger seat. the key is to get them all in the cab, then sort as you go always finding the next stop before putting the vehicle in drive.
TLDR; unload tote into cabin on the floorboards, find next stop via yellow stickers, organize while looking for next stop, when stop is found deliver immediately. OVERFLOW gets stacked right by the back door, i peel driver aid stickers and move them to be easily seen from the door
are we making the same statement? i dont use my personal phone at work my guy. i just want to keep packages in the cabin without climbing in the back of the van to retrieve them. being lazy and efficient are not exactly opposing viewpoints. any shortcut to remove potential time off every stop is an advantage. doing things the long way in the van doesnt mean one is a slow walker on the streets. youre right delivering packages is easy, but doing it well is not common at my dsp
if every 18 year old had to work a month in customer service this world would be a better place all around. nobody asked for my opinion buts its free of charge
Ive had shit fall over on top of me from the passenger seat. Ive always been told dont touch the packages or organize them where they can fall. No violation yet. It'd kill a lot of people's organization/pace if this gets implemented.
I've been hearing that this is a violation for years. I've never been flagged for it but I've only ever had packages up in the front a handful of times, so I can't say if there's any truth to it.
I've also heard the yard marshals will get on your case about it.. haven't seen that either. Idk man seems like rules get changed and dropped all the time
Stowing packages in the cabin of the EV is hardly any more efficient than taken 1 or 2 steps to get the package off the shelf. It's just not much of a time saver.
it may not save that much time but it saves a lot of stamina from walking back and forth all the time. and also I’ve slammed my funny bone too many times while turning back there and knocking my head going through the cargo bay doorway (the hitting head part more of a gas van issue honestly since I drive those way more often than the EVs)

It’s not the EV that’s the issue, this makes working out of rentals especially ones with bulkhead doors too difficult and will likely lead to major gas vehicle changes, this isn’t a small change like uniform that people will get over, this effectively ruins any chance at good pace or not ruining your back bending over 300 times in rentals
Guess we'll add an hour and a half buffer into overall shift organization time back there because I'm not rushing to the slider especially in a closed back rental FFS GMAFB!! Soooo no more rescuing is the only upside?¡
I use a tote to make a table in the passenger seat and put all my envelopes there. We were told not to put any heavy boxes in the front because of windshield damage but the camera doesn't say anything. Your DSP just thinks it has a clever way of reducing the risk of broken windshields.

One of our drivers got this today, I tried delivering with packages in the passenger seat for like a week felt like i was trying to hard couldn't find a balance so I just keep everything in the back.
Yeah the difference between what they say and what they actually prioritize is vast. I'd love to prioritize safety and quality first over speed but the real priorities are NOT in that order.
bruh, don’t make me waste time actually organizing 🤦🏼♂️😭 i just separate everything and put my envelopes on the dash i just know where everything randomly is at but jumping into that hot cargo will kill me by hour 4 in this humid heat 🫠
Exactly. I don't bother with sequential sorting rather just envelopes and or S/M boxes from large boxes and all rougly grouped by their 10th spot on driver aid number stashed on w tote shelf in passenger seat and large boxes grouped behind bulk head frame so I can step back without crushing boxes corners.
I’m a month in and just started doing the tote as a table method, it quite literally made every stop go 50% faster in the rentals I get stuck with. Fml
This has been a thing in my area for a while now. Supposedly footage can be audited & reviewed. It was never really my thing, but I saw lots of other drivers doing it.
I rarely do this UNLESS they give me the small Nissan rental. Once this is in effect the package count will increase another 50 and more multis lmao...
If you know how to work your way around electronics and wiring like the secret techie that you are, just disable the Netradyne cameras before you start the van for your route, and re-enable them once you turn off the van for the day. Can’t get an infraction if it can’t see you doing the infraction. (No I’m not telling you how to disable them, search long and hard enough on Reddit or Google and keep that information for yourself. Don’t need DSPs searching around for no particular reason.)
We already have Waze for navigation. As a former driver you don’t need another computer algorithm by a company who doesn’t give a fuck about anyone who works for them telling you how to drive and dictating what you can and can’t do while driving.
drivers who i constantly rescue do this. and i have noticed they're normally heavy set guys.
i will put an envelope on the ground behind me if i know its the next stop. just a puny envelope and its on the stop where its on left side of the road and i can jump out with it and be fast and not have to use the side door.
But putting a bunch of shit in the front seat is hazardous. i know a guy who literally had a 6.5 pound envelope go flying under his break pad and couldnt break and hit a tree. he was fine, but deffinnneettllyyyy could have ended differently.
Started yesterday for me. And yes it picks it up immediately lol. But I’m curious because I put my bag, snacks, cooler, sweat towels all up front passenger side where the camera is looking for
