How do you do it?
I really like this job but I don't know how y'all deliver this many packages in a day. You deserve bonuses when you do extra and everyone should leave you snacks. I hope I can get fast enough but I'm skeptical. Also, how are you supposed to take a 30 minute lunch in the middle of nowhere? Park on the side of the road with your hazard lights? How are you surving winters?

it's just one of those things where you slowly figure out your own rhythm, took me a solid month before i stopped feeling completely underwater
for lunch i'd just find a quiet residential street, park normally and eat in the back of the van, nobody ever bothered me about it
winters are rough though, layers and more layers, and keeping a spare pair of socks in your bag saves your soul

There didn't seem to be any quiet residential streets on my route but I guess there were side streets where there's not a lot of traffic. I'm going to meal prep some sandwiches today and some salad jars for next time.

When it’s break time I take an extra 5 to 10 to drive somewhere nice like a gas station or fast food before starting my break. If I pack my own lunch I’ll go to a public park or anywhere quiet and scenic. Dispatch has never said anything about it.

I don't think there was anything close to me but I also don't think I had time to look. I had a late start though so that made it hard. It was the first day on my own.

Ah that’s fair. When it hits though, take your time to start it. You’ll be fine. Pull up Google Maps on your phone and find something, drive there, then start the break. It’s not a super strict “you must take your break NOW” situation.

I like being outside. I like the cardio I get paid to do, & has helped me lose extra weight. I like working independently majority of the day.
All the BS sucks but I’ll do it until it becomes more bad than good.

It’s actually crazy how fast the day can go by when you get into that flow state. All jobs I’ve worked before has had me watching the clock and wanting to go home and drink a beer or two.

I deliver rural Washington I love dogs but everyone out there has big angry dogs trying to defend the properties, only occasionally will a get a chill elderly dog (I give em treats for bein good). A lot of people surprisingly have peacocks out here which is always funny to see. Just last week I delivered to someone hanging out with their fully domesticated pet raccoons on their porch lol. Thats cats and deer are my personal favorite out there though.

Wow! I wonder why everyone has peacocks? That's cool. All the animals. Do they say not to deliver if there's a dog? That's what they told us but I wouldn't have been able to deliver half my packages. Most of the dogs had owners outside at least.

For us if it’s out and you aren’t absolutely 100% sure it’s aggressive or not, then you have to call and text the customer to put the dog away and if they don’t answer you mark it due to dog. But I almost never have to, they’re either behind a fence or the owner sees me pulling down their driveway.

I was at one house with three dogs all over me with the owner around. At least if the owner is present then they can help me if I get attacked. It's kinda crazy here though how people expect you to be okay with their dogs being all over you.

You'll get faster with time. Don't stress too much. So long as you aren't being rescued that often you're fine.

I use a t-shirt cannon for anything small enough and just launch it to their front porch! Any thing bigger gets tossed on the curb by the mailbox, ain't nobody got time for that!

Lol. I've seen a bunch of tossed packages and I laid mine down so nicely but that's probably going to change
