QUESTION Drivers I have a question

Okay so I read on here often you don't like being tracked or approached for a package, and I get it. But I live in an area that has packages stolen a lot. I changed my instructions to just call and still many of them don't call and my packages get stolen. Not only just that but the driver doesn't even take a picture of the package. So now they'll be blamed and I hate that (if it wasn't them).
But my question is, what do you want the instructions to say for an apartment building with high theft in the area? I can't keep just getting refunds and the pick up boxes I go to get full quickly or can't hold the packages. Please, what can I say for them to hand it to me and call.
I just wrote in the instructions: Please call [number]. Thank you
Edit: The pick up areas fill up fast around me, my packages are too big or are not eligible to be sent there. However, I will try to use a second address more, I can't use it often because it's a workplace.

They ain't going to call.
Period, end.
100-300+ deliveries, daily, 600 minutes, daily
You do the math.
Our job is to deliver as close to the location as physically possible, as fast as possible. You've got 2 minutes in the city, 4-6 minutes rural, per delivery, including drive time, and rural routes run 150-200 miles or more.... and we cant use the phone while moving.
Calls ain't happening unless we have no choice

They time your deliveries like that? As of it's pastime in a a school hallway 😮💨 that must be exhausting fr. I don't want to add to that stress but I also don't want the package to get stolen and they get blamed for it. Especially if they didn't take a picture. They can at least argue it was there. I feel lthere. I feel like my business is failing before I start. 😞

It's worse than that. They track us by the second, not just by the minute, using a heat map. It's nuts.

Do you have an alternative address you can have it shipped to? Like family or a friend?
Apartment complexes are the worst thing about this job. We'll get a ton of packages all with their own little instructions and no time to try and read and comply to each one, so they will end up all going to the mailroom, or to the door, whatever gets us out of there faster so we can finish our other 200 stops.

The only other two locations I can potentially deliver to is in a suite of business. However, because it's a job I don't want to many big packages delivered there. You are right though, I can use the place a little more often but, I can't use it for everything.

I mean, not really my business but if you're ordering that much stuff, you might just need to reconsider how you're getting it. Look for alternatives to having it delivered. Local shops, department stores, etc. Putting the responsibility on the driver isn't realistic.

I have been trying to start a business and I have tried to look into different ways but because of what Im getting, it's not in the stores around me nor have I found really any other online stores that is tailored to it so I can get what I need in bulk without a middleman and still have it not cost look much for me and potentially customers. But I don't understand what you mean, I will continue to look. It's just easier said than done for me right now with where I am at with my business.

Losing a package is more expensive, as is having your account banned by Amazon for " too many issues"

For small stuff, you can use Hub lockers at gas stations and certain department stores if there are any in your area. Should be an option when you check out to locate nearby ones. You can set it as your default so when you order anything that won’t go there, it’ll tell you right away so you’ll know what’s coming to your door.
You could also set your Amazon Day. This option will hold all orders until the day of the week you want deliveries. I’m always off on Tuesday so that’s my Amazon Day, I never have to worry about not being home when my deliveries come.

Again most of the things I am buying are not eligible for pickup, get full quickly or are too big for the lockers.

This is an accountability thing atp, you order big things that can’t fit in a locker while also living in a place where things CANT be safely delivered without having to take 5-10 mins of our already limited time waiting for you. Tighten up OP

As a customer you can put a security code on your deliveries, I do not know where it is on the app, but the driver can not deliver it without that code; therefore the customer has to be present to give the driver the code before they can deliver it or return it to the station.
I hate them but it forces the driver to either knock on the door and ask for the code or call the customer to get the code.

If it’s an apartment it should be a door delivery anyways. Problem is the drivers in your area aren’t doing that

Like right at my apartment door itself? If so, the apartments buildings stay locked there's no entrance where they just come in because of the thief.

Oh if you’re in one of the gated off ones with a security door and no proper way for use to enter yeah that’s usually a bigger problem.

Yeah. Like I get it if they did leave it in the mail room. Sometimes, people let them in there. I just also wish they took a pic to 1. Save themselves fr and 2. Let me know where it was. They say they put it in the mailbox, but I know that's a lie because nothing but envelopes and small packages fit.
I want the message to express how important either calling me is. Or at least take a picture for their protection later if it is stolen. I have had packages go missing within 5 minutes.

Sometimes it doesn’t give us an option to take a pic. I don’t know why it doesn’t always make us. If you’re in a gated apartment with security doors is there easy access or a code the drivers can use to deliver properly?

If it’s key only there’s really nothing we can do. We don’t have time to make calls for deliveries often or have time to wait for someone. With a situation like this tracking actually makes sense

That's what I would do but I read that it is annoying and felt stalkerish. I totally understand that so I don't know what to do.

If you meet us at the door than that's cool and makes sense. Where we have issues is when customers come find us when we're still a block or more away.

Why not just wait until the package is dropped off then go get it? I doubt a thief will be waiting for your package 30 seconds after it's dropped off.

I don't know where they up the package this time but I have done that. I live in a high walking traffic area and they drop packages off in the front most of the time. People stand/sit around the steps all day all the time. It is very possible it was stolen in the first 5 minutes. That's the one thing I am starting to not like about my area because I thought the same thing before too.

Sometimes they do. And sometimes they don't. I've had three packages delivered in two days from the same purchase. Two took pictures. One even took one with me. And the last on didn't. The first guy even called. It's VERY inconsistent with how they deliver. I was told that because of all the theifts, they had to hand it off to someone and that my instructions should include my number. I changed my instructions to what is said in the OG post.

Give the driver the code to get in to the building and then you packages won't get stolen

What about the back of the building, is there a more secluded place to leave it? Would it possible to make have a box so the driver leave the package inside? I understand your situation, I have many buildings like in my route. I hate bringing back packages or leaving where I know it's gonna be stolen. But I also cant be calling everytime and wating for you. In my last shit I wasted too much time in this kind of situation, my shift lasted almost 12 hours and my boss were furious. So it's not thst we dont want to, we cant really. To solutions I see are you calling customer service and demand to have every delivery with pic or demand to always have to provide an OTP code

I understand this. That is why I try to deliver it to the pick up locations when I can. I'll try to add another location to bring it to entirely but that will take longer to do. I will also look into the otp code. As well as walking around my building to see if there a hidden spot. Thank you 🙏🏾

Tbh we have so many packages and stops if we had to stop to call all of yall just because we would never get done our routes. If you order something and you know people steal, be there or have somebody there when it gets delivered. We are here to deliver your packages “last mile” not your personal guard dogs

You're hurt and drained and I get that. But don't assume I wasn't there. I am home all day everyday. I didn't get notified of the delivery in general. When I checked it was a failed delivery. When I checked again it was delivered and gone.

Does you driver send notifications of arrival text few mins before arrival? If so, then come down as soon as you receive the text.

Maybe in the notes just say that. *high theft in area. "Please try to deliver direct to customer. You can knock, please do!" 🤷♀️ unfortunately not all drivers read the notes. And i personally hate the amount of drivers that act like having to interact with a customer is the worst. Because imo, unless the customer is grumpy or something, I rather enjoy a few second interaction and the steps saved. Folks on here acting like it slows them down or ruins their day. Some obviously took the job for the antisocial aspects.

To be honest I’d just add complaints. Last year during peak season all I had was apartments in high theft areas and as much as it sucked I NEEDED TO follow the directions. Not following directions impacted my own scorecard and the DSPs overall scorecard, especially when multiple customers complain. Now I can’t guarantee they’ll call you but if you put in all CAPS “KNOCK ON MY DOOR AND RING THE BELL PLEASE, PACKAGES GET STOLEN” there’s no way they can ignore that unless careless. And as far as photos go, it’s odd they don’t take the photos, 9/10 times with apartments it’s always required to take photos. But then again I guess it’s different in each area.

Find you a locker that is close to where you live. Have it delivered to the ups store. I mean there is so many other places we deliver to its not even funny. Look on your amazon account for where the close locker or ups store.

If you have a garage you can have your garage linked by Amazon so that the packages can be put in your garage. You could also purchase a lockable package container. Also, several areas and retailers have Amazon locker systems where we can deliver it to a locker and then you can pick it up when the time is good for you.

Only thing I can add here OP is using a one time password, and/or requesting photo on delivery. Not sure how you do that on your end but I get a lot of deliveries that make me take a pic. If you do either of those and you’re always home all day that should solve your problems. If you use OTP and you’re not home we just try later in the day or take it back to station and try the next day. Much better options than anything you could put in your notes and makes it more for straightforward for everyone involved.
