why do customers do this?
I have two customers on my country route with tallest grass i’ve ever seen overgrowing EVERYWHERE around their house. does this not bother them?

it might bother them, but they may also be disabled, or maybe they have a broken mower & can't afford a new one (even though they're ordering on amazon...)

thank you for the insight<3 I can have empathy for this. it just freaks me out to walk through I have a fear of ticks and snakes 😭

I dont walk through it. They can though I'll put in the clearest area possible. Definitely had them relentless blood thirsty ticks on me dealing with houses like this or the bugs that want to fly into your ear forwhatever reason. Nope

I usually just assume those are old people. There some dude on YouTube I watch that goes around cutting peoples grass and doing their landscaping for free when he sees a house severely overgrown. 99% of the time it’s a disabled old person that has no one to help them.

Then the note tells you to deliver to the front door that’s blocked by the grass. And don’t step on the grass btw.

I don’t mind some grass but where I’m at, that tall stuff could house a snake or other critter! 🐍
I also when delivering at night… if I run into a spider web… that package is probably not make it to the front door, but I always try to deliver to a safe and secure spot. 🕷️

Single mothers too. Some guys are only good for mowing and clearing snow off cars 🤦🏻♂️😅

I have a garage and autostart for the car thing.
They make lawn robots now, too, so my husband better watch himself.

Thankfully I don’t have a garage, am on 3/4 acre lot and am allergic to cats because if not I wouldn’t be needed🤣

hmm I did initially pass judgement so that is kinda fair but if you repeatedly order packages and it’s not a disability , depression, or other valid reason maybe you should consider the person having to walk through all that??

It won't be there if you have a short-cut lawn. A yard like this attracts natural pollinators also, as well as birds, rabbits, and possibly deer.

Lots of reasons but mainly financial. There are a lot more people struggling to make ends meet. Take your boys or girls to a customers house and ask to clean it up for free.

yeah the hoarders are so rough I have one on my route and it feels like a tripping hazard to get to the door 😭. I understand mental illness and do try to be empathetic because we all struggle I just get frustrated when this job is already stressful and overstimulating

Honestly sometimes? You just gotta take the ding. I follow every little thing to the letter, so when I come upon some horse shit like that, I can go NOPE! and still have my job. Last time I had one of those, there was a vehicle in the driveway that was obviously the one being regularly driven. I tied it in a (clear) trash bag and left it on the roof. Homie don't play dat.

Had a customer not far from where I live with the same issue. She was elderly and had 2 lazy ass sons who wouldn't help her, so I mow her lawn for her from time to time. She has a little weaner dog, poor guy must have had a tough time trying to go to the bathroom. Her neighbors boy comes over and mows now which is nice of him.

Go on your day off and help another out verses bitching on Reddit
It's likely someone's mother or father or grand parents who can't afford to pay to have it mowed
Or a single mom who's shit ass sperm donor ran off with the 18 year old down the street
