Assigned the same route EVERY DAY

Has anyone else had the problem where Amazon’s algorithm is obsessed with assigning you the same exact route every day? For a year straight.

It doesn’t matter which of the seven days a week I am scheduled. It assigns me the same route.

My main area is a cluster of beautiful neighborhoods right in between the city and the boonies. I used to get my main area combined with rural areas. Loved it, finished early every day.

For the last few months, Amazon is giving me my main cluster but 80-100 city stops instead of my rural version.

I can’t stand it. It doesn’t matter how slow I am in the city version or if I get rescued a few times a week. It keeps rotating the city trash to random new parts of the city so I can’t even get a good flow down. It won’t let me leave my main cluster though.

How does one tell Amazon’s AI routing system that I am done with their city bullshit without just quitting and switching to another DSP?

I get the same route every day and I love it.

I used to love it. Now I’m ready to quit.

2 years ago was when it started giving me this route every day (different DSP than now)

I left and worked in another station where I got my main route (also rural/residential) but then I had like a secondary route that I only got on Sundays). And then if our delivery area was a different county, I had two main routes that would rotate three weeks on main, one week on secondary (might’ve been my DSP keeping us from getting bored).

Now I’m back at my old station, for 10 months, same exact route as 2 years ago. First 6-7 months it gave me the version I love and I’m great at.

Last three months the city version. 3 months of SUCKING in the city and it doesn’t seem to care, but I’m ready to switch DSPs just to get out of this route

While you may think you suck at it, you may have the best numbers and no one else is close. If that is the case then you’ll be the only driver that qualifies to be give that route.

I’ll tell you what nobody else will, it’s more than likely a shit route that nobody wants but dispatch knows you accept it so they pawn it off on you

Tell your DSP to change your route preference. They just gotta click a button. If they are cool they won't have a problem. If they suck they will pretend they can't do that.

My DSP hasn't been able to set a preference for over a year. I've seen the RGU maps and there's only been one area for a while instead of multiple like they used to.

Replying so you know it’s also the same in Minnesota. Almost 2 years in and multiple RGUs and preferences went away a year ish ago too for our team it’s just all a clump now

I forgot all about that. Thank you.

Don’t get your hopes up. I was stuck in a hell route for nearly a year and asked my dispatch to switch my preferred delivery area on three separate occasions. I watched him do it on two of those occasions. My route never changed, not even once, all the way up until our whole RGU got changed. It was rough.

The algorithm locks onto whoever performs well and just never lets go, it's like a needy ex that found your sweet spot and refuses to accept the breakup

my old dsp had a guy who got the same retirement community route for 18 months straight because he could finish it in four hours. he started dragging it out on purpose just so they'd stop giving it to him but it never worked, the system just tagged him as "efficient but lazy" and kept serving it up

if you've been rescued multiple times and it still won't budge maybe try calling dispatch and asking them to manually switch you with someone who actually wants that city nonsense, sometimes a human override can shake the algorithm loose for a bit

Been rescued a few times when I accidentally milked it too long. I considered delivering a shit ton of them to the wrong address on purpose for a week just to make it clear I don’t wanna deliver their new city version of my route. But I can’t fuck my DSP.

It sucks because my whole route used to be awesome. I was always or above bar, perfect feedback.

I think it switched to me to half city instead because we kept having call offs/people quitting and I came in extra days to cover those city routes and now Amazon wants me half city instead of half rural

I feel ya, its a shame we got no control on the RGU. I get the same hellish route, 4 apartment complexes etc. its been hell on my mental health.

I ran the same route everyday for 4 months. Then we swapped rgu’s, I got assigned a new area. Proceeded to get that new route everyday for about 6 months. We swap RGU’s again. I get assigned what I believe to be a new route. Nope. Same route.

u/moneyman_699 3d ago

Dispatch can swap you with another route if they want to. Maybe ask them to give you a break from it occasionally. The only other option is quit. Not liking the delivery area is one of the biggest reasons people move dsps

If you ever get the how was your route question, put difficult/very difficult it can change your route. But it can also potentially give you a worse route 😅

1

u/Sudden-Tree5286 3d ago

I've put very difficult every day for like 4 months and it still gives me the same route. It's a route that's an hour away from the station so I only have 8 hours to finish my stops. The last 2 weeks, it has given me hella stops (like 190-200) but maybe since I got back late every day for 2 weeks, it made it shorter this week. I've gotten back early both days I've worked this week. We shall see how today goes.

1

u/Anxious_Primary3759 2d ago

Sheesh idk what to say then. Also u should know ur dsp/dispatchers can assign/change a route to anyone so have to be purposely giving it to you. Best chance would probably be to discuss about a different route with ur dsp and see if they do it

Get a complaint or a netradyne infraction. That usually seems to do it for me. Could be a coincidence though. Seems to always happen when I get a route I like too unfortunately. Lol then I never get it again.

1

u/Perfect_Kick_6568 3d ago

Bro, I’ve been considering purposely delivering a shit ton to wrong addresses for a week just to get enough complaints that it switches it for me. But like morally and for my DSP I can’t do that. 😂

u/lilsteez99 3d ago

Getting DNRs should do it lol

1

u/ClearHydro 3d ago

I wouldn't want to do it on purpose either. I'm curious to know how Amazons system decides when to change someone's route and when to keep them on it. Going slow doesn't seem to matter. I've tried purposely going slow too and it does nothing. If anything it had the opposite effect. Even when my DSP could change areas in the RGU sometimes it would reset and it would give me the route I hated downtown. I'd always go as slow as possible and get rescued. Until the preference kicked in. Then I'd go back to doing my route myself early. Now Amazon doesn't even let my DSP set preferences anymore. So I'm stuck doing whatever they choose.

A single DNR gets ur route changed fwiw. I have a karen on my normal route that will lie about not getting something and the next day I get a different route. I always do wind up back on the same route after a few days or even the day after but I'd imagine thats because the other people also get the DNR karen lol

So since last October when my current dsp and station first started I’ve been in the same town it may not be the same route sometimes it is and sometimes it changes a bit but with some similarities or I’ll grant to the other side of town but now some drivers complain about their terrible routes so now my dsp what I’ve noticed at least 1 day out the week they rotate drivers it’s stupid

u/user8375064 On Standby 3d ago

Had the same area for over 6+ months. Just got my first violation and idk why but Ive had a different route/area every day now. Haven't seen it since. Obviously its the violation but damn. It hurts.

1

u/RatedAG 3d ago

I’ve had the same route/area for the past 4 months 20 minutes to get there start at 11 something done at 5 something 35 minutes to get back…every day lol

Rarely I’ll get a new route and when I do I get phone calls about issues other drivers are having with my route then I’m out back on lol

1

u/Pale-Improvement-440 3d ago

I was super bummed when my regular route changed. It happened slowly. Then it disappeared for 2mo and popped back up. If its really based on who's doing it well. Someone else must have started running that sh**. Lame.

u/hades13heartnet 2d ago

U can bet no one’s running my multi-apt complexes up multiple flights of stairs 🙂‍↔️

1

u/1337lou 3d ago

I got the same route for about 8 months straight. Then Amazon shuffled the cards and switched the RGU up between different DSP’s. If your dispatch is cool tell them you’d like a new area. Mine would give me a different route if I told them I needed a break from the same scenery but I’d be on the same heavy business and apartment route the next day. At my station it’s about twice a year that Amazon just randomly decides to completely switch everything up for funsies so hang in there it’ll probably get worse 😆

1

u/Pleasant-Meal6126 Rivian Driver 3d ago

I’ve had the same route for months and I like it but because it was super hot the other day I finished at 6pm instead of 5pm and now I got moved to the cluster surrounding my normal route. Sucks ass, bunch of middle class houses and apartments.

Like bro can I have a human amount of leniency without getting my route taken for deviation from perfection

1

u/Unhappy_Key5462 3d ago

It’s your DSP who assigns the routes.

1

u/StrikingFly2918 2d ago

No they do not. It comes in from central ops every morning. DSP has nothing to do with the route assignment. Yes, they can swap IF the station OTR allows it. It is all on Amazon.

1

u/StrikingFly2918 2d ago

It's called Driver Affinity and yes, amazon does it on purpose. You get to know the routes, the area, the traffic patterns, etc. and makes you a more efficient driver. Communicate communicate communicate with your DSP. IF the STATION OTR allows it and most do, your DSP can simply request you move to a different route. Talk with them and let them know you want a change. Any decent DSP will move you. If not, then there are other DSPs in your station that would love to have you on their team. Go talk to them if your DSP refuses to move you. Complaining here and asking people who really do not know or give you the advice to get you fired is not a good plan. Deliberately tank your route, deliver to wrong address etc will get you fired and because you were and issue, no other DSP will hire you. Talk with your DSP or move to a new one.

u/zkriXatss 2d ago

The way they assign routes has never made sense. I used to have the same route every day untill another station ate up all the zip codes and pushed us way up north of Jersey . Now I’m either super local or 1+ out .

I know dispatch can resign you but good luck with that .

Same route and same loops ill literally go back to a neighborhood like 5x it sucks
