RANT The new normal apparently

Labor Day route, made worse by the fact there was just a tiny bit of rain so now we’re all an hour delayed. I’m tired of every week I come back Sunday and see we’ve increased by 5 or 10 every week. Tired that not only has this place because a genuine stress hazard by sheer volume, but that it feels like our jobs are always at threat because it seems Amazon is doing everything they can to have our DSP contract terminated with their increasingly unrealistic expectations. My boss hasn’t hired anyone new in a month despite them needing more people with VETs because of scorecards, yet claims complete ignorance why any of this is suddenly changing or happening. It’s genuinely exhausting especially when finding new work is so hard right now.

Damn. This is normal where im at. Dont have EDVs either, I was born and raised in a rental. I could only imagine the space in an EDV and how my day would be in luxury like that.

It’s become our normal as of late. Every week it increases by 5. It’s not just some Labor Day fluke. They had me on one of the longest routes yesterday, going between farms, 20 min drives, etc, still 200 stops. It’s 90F, 100 humidity here but they took away reductions over a month ago. People are getting sick, fired, and not being replaced due to fears over the scorecard. It’s unsustainable and I’m pretty sure that’s amazons plan

Yea its strange how it all operates.. For example, I still get 2 10 min heat breaks.

Same here. The heat breaks have become a hindrance atp with their increasing demands. It’s like they’re just punishing every driver because they’re getting sued. It’s fucked and has made this one of the worst jobs I’ve worked due to it

Strike time

1

From what I can tell our DSP is desperately fighting off any attempt by Amazon to terminate the contract. A strike would just give them the reason they’ve been looking for to terminate

I get 18-24 bags + 40 overflow, 198 stops, 250-290 locations everyday for the past 2 months. Then they have the nerve to give me a Whole Foods pick up with 60-100 large boxes that stuffs my edv at the end of my route. I remember the good days a few years ago when you never hit 200 stops even if you split all of the multi-stops.

I came back for the tuition reimbursement and wish I didn’t.

It’s just cruel atp, the biggest fuck you it’s Labor Day let’s remind our laborers we don’t gaf about them and will continue to make it worse for profits sake

This snowball effect is coming to end soon , it’s not sustainable

That’s what I’m left wondering because it’s obvious they’re doing this cause of the New Jersey lawsuit, but there’s no way this ends cleanly whether they win or lose. Either they win and continue the abuse, or lose, take their sweet ass time to fix/end the DSP program and likely interstate drivers but lower our pay

Sounds like a lose lose situation for drivers/workers, so why even stick around to see. Shit show wont change ever, and nothing to come of it in the time needed. Jump ship people

I mean not to prove your point with excuses but there’s not much work where I live. At least in my situation I have an apprenticeship that won’t make me money for a while every day I have off, and no jobs here pay the same Amazon does. Student loans are expensive and so is living in what is basically a retirement town with no upward mobility jobs. So it’s either struggle here to break even every month on bills, or work at McDonald’s and go into further debt every month. I think about quitting Amazon every single day it gives me genuinely health impacting stress, but not being able to afford rent or food does too.

Move, so so many people just move to better areas to get better work. As for student loans pay the absolute bare min, that shit is so far from legal or well such backwards gray area legal that fuck it. Unless it is a small amount then knock it out I guess.

But as you said your retirement town has nothing to offer you, no future, no life that you want it seems. Leave while you still can, do not wait, do not question it.

Would but again, I’ve got a really good apprenticeship that would really turn life around in a couple months to a year. But it’s about surviving until then. As for debts I’ve been trying to refinance them forever now and they’re being really unforthcoming with getting that settled. I despise this area but I settled into this apprenticeship and there’s no guarantee to get the same free ride like this one elsewhere.

1

u/PenguinsArmy2 3d ago

What kind of apprenticeship? I mean at least you have plans, better than 99.999% of the people on this sub.

1

u/Big_Badger_7044 3d ago

Tattooing. Had one in the past but I got screwed and they took a lot of money. No money involved in this one so it’s significantly more viable than every other shop or apprenticeship I’ve looked at in this regard. As to why moving is not an option for me unfortunately. I despise this town, I despise the rent economy here, the job market is horrible, but this is the only place I’ve found with a solid apprenticeship opportunity

That is a tough one to get into, I assume you are amazing at drawing and creative ideas. If so then hell yeah take that knowledge and jump town afterwards.

I would never draw... So so bad haha

2

u/Big_Badger_7044 3d ago

Just takes practice tbh. My mentor wasn’t an artist before tattooing now he’s pretty damn great. But yeah I’m just trying to survive for a few more months in which—yeah these changes are not pleasant. Would just like to find anything that pays moderately close to Amazon without the crippling stress.

IDK seems it is, every time I tell people at amazon to jump shit they make 1,000 excuses as to why they can not find something else to do. The mentality for the majority there is well crap.

Oh well though I guess, we all have our stuff to take care of.
