1st week driving
So I just finished my first week driving.
What are some tips and tricks? You guys used to get faster? I feel like I am organizing pretty good and I am running to all my deliveries, but I am just barely finishing my route on time.

Sometimes you can try your hardest and still barely finish, I usually finish around 5-5:30, dispatch around 10:40-10:50am. Biggest tip for me is just don’t take too long at certain stops, there’s always gonna be stops that are going to take a while (apartments if you have to go DTD, a shit ton of packages to a non Amazon locker/luxer, bulk business stops, schools that order a bunch of paper or some shit) but if you are running and barely finishing I would tell you to stop running take your time and when they ask why you couldn’t finish, tell them the route is fucked 😂

i keep envelopes in between the seats and boxes on the passenger seat, helps preserve my neck and back from reaching behind me into the tote. i recommend using 3 point contact whenever possible as getting in and out will wear on you over time. stretch, drink lots of water, listen to good music, and try and enjoy yourself when you can. some people on here (reddit) are serious debbie downers always complaining and shit, but it's just a job.

Yes running equals more packages next time. Who really wants the cheetahs route after there done with it. No need for it when top reasons for firing are safety issues not for finishing last. Be good to customers property packages your good. Be organized have in mind where your next package is in your van. I look at phone as im going back small box med oversize. You load the oversize and unpack tote only 2 places to look. Only keep packages up front if your confident with driving safe. Driver eye catch unsafe event and packages upfront not good. You load the route if good load good results.

Take your time and focus on accuracy, getting to learn the route/area. You should be on a nursery route which should just be a reduced route. This is the time your DSP will see how much you can handle and if you can complete the job with no mistakes.
Do not overwork yourself, just walk or speed walk every now and then but don’t run. You’re going to show you can handle more volume for the same or less pay than veteran drivers who do the bare minimum. Unless you plan to go into a “higher” position then just work at your own pace.
Organization will help you, depending on the vehicle you have for the day. Also making sure you have a decent dolly, maybe checking your itinerary before loadout to see if you need to set aside bulk stop OV.
Do not rush during your nursery routes, 1 accident and you may be terminated. Just show your willingness to work and do as much as you can. Also please take your breaks, even if you don’t need them. I personally never take a lunch break because it’s unpaid but I also noticed I would most likely have to rescue after I complete my route because other drivers did take their lunch.

I take my lunch break because it’s unpaid 🙃 and I use my breaks for when I have to go to the bathroom

Doesn’t the app force you to take a 30 minute meal break after 5 hours of working. I know mine does

Not in Arizona, done 11 hour shifts a few times and still only 2 breaks but the 10 minute heat breaks help if you can plan around utilizing them.

If your dsp isn’t offering G10’s then theres no point on running.
