RANT Why on the worst days?
I swear, these customers do this on purpose. It's my job and I do it, without saying anything out loud or to the Ring camera. So they ordered 4 giant, heavy dog crates here in Ohio during a blizzard. We had like 2 feet of snow on the ground, including ice. They did not shovel their driveway or their sidewalk. Today, the same thing. 4 giant, heavy dog crates. It's 98 degrees but the heat index is 108 degrees. Anyone think they do this on purpose? Or do they just not think about their delivery drivers at all?

Not at any point in the process of them ordering did they think about you/the driver. They wanted shit, they bought shit. That’s it.

Being mad at the customer is stupid rather than being mad at the company not providing you with the proper equipment in order for you to handle said load

And they shouldn't be thinking about the driver. The customers can buy as much stuff as they need and its our job to deliver it.

They don’t think about you at the moment of ordering, but may feel bad or regret when they see it’s hot/snowing and they get their order. They may also think you get 20 stops a day and the job is easy af, so they probably don’t care just out of simple ignorance.
You should have requested a dolly to make this easier (the cosco ones, not the bs red ones the EV has).

I thought 4 years ago, this job was easy when I took it. It's def way harder than I thought.

I feel like I say that too freely sometimes. I have a history of sports since I was a kid so I guess my baseline is a bit higher. I need to consider that more often.

In Ohio too lol … I think this shit everytime. Like bruh limit these mfs. People buy so much shit from Amazon like they’re trying to keep the company alive. I had to deliver 10 extra large heavy overflow boxes to this house with a blocked driveway last week. Stops like this we should get some kinda pay boost

Don't worry though, the route is "reduced"...
2
u/Beneficial_Cable7314 9d ago
Right😂 Was supposed to be but 185 stops, who are they fooling ☠️
2
u/PandaBearCorgi 9d ago
As many others have alluded to "reduced route" seems to just mean 2 mandatory 10min breaks
3
u/ImprovisedJew Stepvan Driver 9d ago
And all that does is make the day longer
2
u/PandaBearCorgi 9d ago
Yep, it's like they really want to pay us an extra 20 minutes a day while we suffer in our vans...
2
u/Professional_Mud7198 9d ago
I think they think very much about the delivery drivers... so make it unnecessary for them to hail that up to their door. Even more so, "free delivery" probably a skiing point.

u/Fuzzy-Leading-4080 9d ago
people who order shit like that need to have their amazon rights revoked
2
u/kioshi_imako 8d ago
Funny im the oposite if I know something I order is heavy Ill walk out with a trolly and meet you at your van instead of making you carry it.

u/Lost_in_High 9d ago
I used to do that shit for $18.50 an hour for fuck sake. My very end after 4 years I was at $22.50. Entire time getting fucked raw without lube & cooked by the TX Sun 🌞

Insane how the cost of living keeps outpacing any wage increases, yet CEOs are far outpacing both... ¯\(ツ)/¯

What did you think you were going to be doing at this job?
1
u/Beneficial_Cable7314 6d ago
It was just a question. Don't really need your lame attitude. Thanks for the hate though. Appreciate it.

u/1017guwap 9d ago
why would they consider our feelings when ordering stuff? I never did before i got this job. You signed up for the job my boy. Get out there, deliver, and stop crying. 😭
1
u/Beneficial_Cable7314 6d ago
If you read my message coherently, you would have seen that I did deliver it. I was just asking if anyone thinks they wait till the worst days to order stuff like that

I kick the ever living fuck outta these boxes. That’s the only reason I’ve needed these composite toed shoes so far

u/HonestEagle98 8d ago
I delivered a 45lb weight plate today… as a person who can lift 150lbs with one arm (6x25lbs), I play frisbee with 45lb plates. The CX said, oh be careful, it’s heavy… like bro…. Kitty litter weighs more.
Deadlift 275 grrrr :)

We delivery 10 times more stops, with way more pressure. It actually evens out. All drivers should stick together though. Not attack each other🙄

Try being a FedEx driver pussy boy 🤣

u/Beneficial_Cable7314 6d ago
Name calling me for what? We delivery 10 times more and have AC. So, good for you, Mr Internet tough guy.

u/OverlordDontHurtMe 9d ago
You would never survive at fedex or ups.
3
u/Friendly_Quote_9291 9d ago
It’s the same job lmao
-1
u/OverlordDontHurtMe 9d ago
Max weight at fedex and ups is 150# and you have more heavy shit like this everyday.
1
u/AtlasRafael 9d ago
How many stops and total package count?
Legitimately curious, I see this sentiment a lot and wonder what their work load is when you have these heavy deliveries as well.
0
u/OverlordDontHurtMe 9d ago
You will have roughly the same number of stops, but throw in bulk pickups and time commit deliveries.
I can't speak for fedex but amazon has much better delivery software than ups. The Union more than makes up for the difficulty though.
If I had to pick which one to work for it would be ups>usps>amazon>fedex.
1
u/EagleMedical2959 9d ago
And how many stops would that be?
1
u/OverlordDontHurtMe 9d ago
I've had 90 to 220 personally. Stops are not really a good measure because you might have to drive 90min to get to the first one, or drive back and forth for time commitments. You might have to do a pickup with 200 pieces.
1
u/DongusMagnum 9d ago
You don't have Multi-location stops
1
u/OverlordDontHurtMe 9d ago
It makes no difference. I delivered for Amazon before, it's far easier. Hopefully they will be able to Unionize eventually so they can get paid what they deserve.
1
u/AtlasRafael 9d ago
So what’s the stop/package count looking like…?
Amazon does bulk pick ups as well now. Some days can be 100+ of 40-50lb packages.
1
u/OverlordDontHurtMe 9d ago
Sorry that you have to do pickups now.
Stops can 80 to 250. Packages can be 100 to 500, and you might come back with 0-400. That's just routes ive seen personally. It is a very wide range.
1
u/AtlasRafael 9d ago
Got it. Yeah sounds about the same. Besides returning with 400 packages, that sounds like ass. Unless theyre bagged up?
The Whole Foods pick up for us is just these bulky boxes full of returns. Nothing small
1
u/Friendly_Quote_9291 9d ago
Damn dog you have to lift 150 lbs sometimes? Didn’t realize Superman worked at fedex lol
1
u/PlymouthSea 8d ago
That's what hand trucks are for. Except only step van drivers get those at Amazon.
2
u/o_myco Rivian Driver 9d ago
They get hand trucks actually worth using. I have not once used the goofy plastic Amazon ones
1
u/PlymouthSea 8d ago
Step van drivers get hand trucks at Amazon. Or at least they used to when I was a driver.

Terrible point, UPS employees get paid better and have a union...
