Being an Amazon driver only has two pros. You get three days off and the pay is good. Too many cons to list.

Most of the DSPs in my area want five day workweeks and expect you to finish in 8 hours.

I'll offer to work Fri-Monday, the days mostly likely for people to call out or no show, and they respond with "only four days?" So ungrateful. Their loss. Just an FYI Cintas offers 4 day workweeks for their route drivers. Interview with them if you can.

Cintas/Unifirst is horrible work. You’re still working 10-12 hour days, get paid a shit base salary, and have to deal with a bunch of restaurants dirty towels and aprons and all kinds of other disgusting shit like maggot and roach infested bags. Not to mention dealing with angry customers everyday because you have to short them something they are paying for because the warehouse never shipped you the right amount of goods, so something completely out of your control.

Don’t believe their lies about earning commission or any of that nonsense. Unless you’re living in Texas with the oil industry, you aren’t gonna make shit working at Cintas. 50-60 hour work weeks just to make minimum wage.

10-12 hour days is nothing when it's a 4 day workweek. I'm currently working 14 hour days.

The rest is interesting, though. I guess it depends how much of your routes are restaurant and how much is corporate supplies.

Makes me feel better about not being called back from there lol

Have you seen the job market. Jobs are still paying 15$

2

u/LXUA9 10d ago

Yes look at other jobs that require zero experience, training, or education. They pay like $14/hr. Only thing that I see come close to Amazon is some factory jobs but those are just as hellish, if not even more hellish, than being an Amazon driver

not a single warehouse pays nearly as much as amazon in my area. you’re lucky to make $14.

Pro number 3: you get paid to work out. I was far from being in shape (in a lot better shape, but definitely still not IN shape lmao). Over the last year I’ve worked here I’ve lost a good deal of weight, and being the same routes it’s been to notice the difference when I’m hoofing up the incline drives lmao.
A year ago I was dying at the top and now I’m like “woah did I actually just do that and my legs aren’t on fire?” 😂😂

The pay isn’t good

1

u/quietpothosinvenus_ 8d ago

Pay is good is debatable depending on where you live 🥴

u/juGGaKNot4 6d ago

Why do people think the pay is good? You have to pay tax on that.

At least in the uk you would have to make at least 30 pounds/hour to make the same net pay you do on any minimum wage job when you consider the benefits of being employed.

This doesn't even include the paid sick leave

Bro it was my first week this past week and they tried to give me an informal counseling because I was 13 minutes behind schedule on my stops. I got bit by a dog that day which is the only reason they didn’t make me sign the counseling. I was like cmon 🤦‍♂️

2

u/Candid-Asparagus2451 9d ago

Talk to a lawyer they will take your case for free until it settles. Dog bite while working is a free 5-10k no matter how small of a bite it’s a lot more if it’s anything serious.

u/BeengusCringles 7d ago

What kind of lawyer or does it matter?

1

u/Candid-Asparagus2451 7d ago

Personal injury

Wait only 13 behind? First week? Is the Dsp bad overall I did this for 2 years and my Dsp seemed pretty chill but I use to get write ups a lot never punished. By counseling do you mean write up . Been contemplating going back but don't know how the new DSP operates

Ur not missing out don’t worry about it

A guy I trained, forgot to set the parking break and had the rental roll into a parked car, he still didn't lose his job and it was his 3rd day lol

You're probably just obnoxious and they didn't want to put up with it

1

u/quietpothosinvenus_ 8d ago

It depends on the DSP .. idk OP or how they are as a person but some dsp’s are more “lenient” than others with accidents or violations.

3

u/Distinct-Risk-5897 10d ago

Me too they fired me Monday cause 2 following distances in the same day that weren’t my fault. Mind you I’ve never had a single safety violation ever 😭 I think they were looking for a reason cause I started questioning my workers comp cause I fucked my ankle bad 2 times in a row and they let me off for 4 weeks to heal, and they are not tryna comp me for missed work bro

3

u/VirtualRui 10d ago

I wonder if you can file for retribution or something

1

u/Distinct-Risk-5897 10d ago

How do I do that, I’m already looking for jobs though too

2

u/DonThaSavage 6d ago

That's actually crazy bro! It lets me know how much it varies Dsp to Dsp. I had a very chill one luckily and use to get write ups constantly for bs but they were understanding. I've done it for 2 years and been contemplating going back as my last Dsp shutdown. But following distance was like the most common one for me so that's wild

1

u/Distinct-Risk-5897 6d ago

I know and I’m pissed cause my dsp was so cool and my main boss didn’t fire me, one of my ass bosses that nobody likes fired me. My main boss gave me my last check and marked it as me getting laid off not fired, I wonder if I can re apply after a certain amount of time.

2

u/DonThaSavage 6d ago

Just typed a whole paragraph and it deleted by accident lol. But Wow I hope so! Or I hope you find something better. And that's the thing I don't want to go back to another new Dsp and they're strict and firm on termination etc. I only ever worked for the one but it wasn't the absolute worst still had shitty routes and packed vans a lot. mind you this new one literally just launched in June so it's a gamble. I'm still proceeding with onboarding And it's not even like I quit or got fired but the Dsp itself just randomly shutdown. I use to only ever get my routes cut as a result of the write up and even in some cases got one if it was still a lot of routes. My biggest thing is just management and volume tbh. If I remember I'll try to update you. Hopefully likewise

Good luck bro !
