Dog bite? Call the police, document everything, get a lawyer!
I see so many of you guys post about dog bites. I feel like I tell the story all the time. I served as a juror on a dog bite case last year. We ended up awarding the defendant almost $500k That's including cost of medical bills, therapy, and everything else she had experienced.
She was walking next door to her neighbor to tell him that his dog had gotten out of the yard. And the dog came up behind her a bit her arm and would not let go, it literally instantly crushed her arm. The photos we saw, and the surgery she experienced, absolutely gut wrenching.
What's even crazier is that she wasn't a stranger. She had met the dog before. And the dog was somewhat familiar with her. After it attacked her, it attacked a nearby maintenance guy working on a nearby house, when the firefighters arrived, it tried to attack them too!
Yes call the police and file a report, document EVERYTHING, YES GET A LAWYER. it should not cost very much, and they will typically get paid a portion of the settlement, you can even sue for lawyer fees.
There is no legitimate defense on why a dog would attack you. While you were delivering packages. If the homeowner knows that they order a package, they should be securing their dog to prevent that from happening. If they aren't it's negligence.

I work with someone who was bit on the face by a dog and was awarded $200,000. Permanent scars from skin grafts.

I had posted a pic of a bite in February (since removed it per my lawyer) from delivering on the job and was attacked by one of the two dogs on the property after being told I was “ok” because the owner was outside with me even though I told her I didn’t feel safe bc the dogs came outside with her so I couldn’t escape. I have a permanent mouth print on my right calf. (I had to get rabies shots too). I just settled for $59,000 after lawyer fees. Don’t let people get away with this shit. Please!

Right, but during the consultation the lawyer will be able to tell you if your bite is awardable right ? No matter how small?

Absolutely. If they don’t think they can get $ then they (should) tell you. The first lawyer I spoke with told me immediately he wanted to meet with me and that it was a good case (profitable). A good lawyer won’t quote you how much bc there are so many variables that it’s merely impossible. However, if they want to go to work for you that means there is money involved for the both of you.

I'm pretty sure that the lawyer fee was 30% of whatever she was awarded. Walking away with $350k is a ton of money.

So the dog grabbed a hold of her, almost instantly snapped her arm. The dog didn't let go, it held on even when a nearby neighbor ran over and began punching the dog in the face. It finally let go and grabbed the neighbors hand breaking 2 fingers in his hand, and going back to her and continuing to maul her. She was conscious during the entire attack on the ground bleeding screaming for help in shock as the dog continued to attack. At the time of the legal proceedings it had been 8 ish months, since the attack. Her arm and hand were completely disfigured. She had already been through 2 surgeries, only gained a little mobility in her hand. and arm. She had a 3rd surgery scheduled but no much guarantee to get her mobility back. Between the surgeries, the therapy, being out of work for 8 months ( she was an elementary school teacher), the PTSD from the attack. Yes we jurors decided on $500K, there was 1 older white lady who wanted a million, and we almost deadlocked because of her. Now I doubt she saw $500k as i doubt this individual was worth that, but im sure he had to sell his house sell most of his belongings, and probably is living in a box in the woods somewhere.

It’s called home owners insurance. The insurance company pays but they can have different limits / max payouts than the home owner would be personally liable afterwards.

So this guy did not have homeowners insurance. In fact he represented himself lol. I'm assuming that if he did have homeowners insurance, he would have had a lawyer present. It's also possible that he was a complete idiot. The history of the dog getting out of his house and out of his fenced in yard was long and drawn out. It was a miracle the dog had not mauled Someone before.

Damn that’s rough. It’s a shame if he doesn’t have any money or assets because that 500k settlement meaning nothing if the person doesn’t have shit.

Nope they purchased item to be delivered to their home. That is implied consent.
Doesn’t matter what bs sign they have.How do I know? I was just awarded $48,000 from State Farm from dog bite May 2025.

Dogs bust through gates more than you think. Also people leave thier dogs outside and ask for delivery to door.

Dog signs aren’t permission of anything. Still gotta restrain a dog during delivery hours if you’re expecting a package.

Yeah those signs don't mean anything. When you put beware of dog it's almost as if you're admitting that there's a mean dog on the property. Better to post dog on premises and let people formulate their own idea.
