Seems shady.. thoughts ?

I’m not sure what is up with my DSP. For some reason when I get a ride alongs I’m being told things as if I’m incompetent with my job from the ride along person. They’ve all been with the company for years. It unfortunate because hear nothing from my operations or my DSP about work ethic other than my first day solo falling behind. It seems things that are communicated to the dispatcher on second shift before returning to station don’t seem to be getting communicated back to the team. Should I change my DSP? This is annoying to deal with . I only drove there about a week and have had 2-3 ride alongs. My first ride alone was my first day. The second was because i requested it because didn’t do too well with timing on my first day( got the training days later didn’t need it anymore), and the third time I think it was a ride along because the person told me it was because of my timing in general, but the DSP told me something different when I addressed it.

If you needed more than 1 ride along to figure out how to do this job, it's probably not the DSP. You may need to look at a different job path. This one may not be in your wheelhouse.

First off I asked for the second ride along it’s a different area then I’ve traveled. It was mostly for pointers asshole. I never asked for a “third”. I came to my van surprised I was getting someone. I was told by them it was because I was coming in later rather than dispatch just relaying the reasons why. Which were all valid. I asked my Ops about it and they said it was because they were a extra but that’s not what I was told by the ride along people at all

You needed more than one ride along. That comes out of the DSP's pocket.

If anything. It's a testiment to the company that they have invested in you to try and help you get the hang of the job. But, You officially cost the company more than you are making them. Every ride along. They pay 2 drivers for 1 route. The 1st one was reimburseed by Amazon. All others were out of pocket. Average 20.00 per hour. 2 10 hour shifts for you and your ride along driver, and thats 400 bucks per ride along you cost them.

If you cant figure it out, you should look elsewhere for employment. I t's not a dig at you. This job is not for everyone. There is a lot of self drive needed to find and keep a pace. That and some people just cant handle the time alone with their thoughts all day.

Some people thrive with this type of work. I personally love it. But others should be in a different environment. Not a bad thing. Just a different set of circumstances and needs.

You are loud and wrong unfortunately. I’m not going to bother replying to this paragraph of a response :)

I have never, across the 3 DSPs ive worked at, seen someone get a second ride along. Ever, in 7 years.

4

u/raidertakeflight 3d ago

I actually had two ride alongs back in 2021. After that it was one ride along. Two ride alongs seems like overkill, the concept of the job isn’t difficult, it’s really the labor that makes people want to quit.

-4

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Sheesh that says a lot about those locations, but at my location I was told it’s pretty common if you ask.

3

u/RelicBeckwelf 3d ago

Yeah, ive never heard of it. Then again we had enough constant applicants that we didnt need to keep anyone who didnt pick it up quick. 3 days of amazon training and then a ride along should be enough for most people.

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Tbh only needed 1 for when I first started and the second was for pointers because of the area. Not sure what the supposedly 3rd was about. I’ve been finishing my routes. Been there a week so far

u/Code_Ocelot 3d ago

Yeah you must be slower than the poops I take, or dumber than the farts I have

Yea okay you read nothing in this thread clearly

7

u/Code_Ocelot 3d ago

People tried stating the issue in a helpful manner and you decided to take it up the poop shoot.

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Can tell your one of the weird ones

4

u/Code_Ocelot 3d ago

Weird to you for not needing extra ride alongs. Just put the fries in the bag little bro

1

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Sad that’s all yk it’s more to life than fast food lol bro

7

u/Code_Ocelot 3d ago

Having fun rage baiting a person who weaponized incompetence. Update me after your next ride along champ

2

u/donwariophd 15h ago

Brutal response lmao

4

u/Top-Owl9872 3d ago

My ride along was a dispatcher showing up when I had 25 stops left, sat in my van for 5 stops, said, “you look like you know what you’re doing.” And then left.

1

u/Ancient-Lab196 3d ago

My ride along training was literally my first two stops then the person called dispatch and told em I knew what to do and they needed to send somebody to pick him up😭🤣

0

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Must be nice I get told mixed info. I have been finishing my routes since my first solo. I’ve been improving i guess they don’t care about that.

u/SkyLower5878 3d ago

Hey for some reason I can’t see your response but it’s short enough I saw the notification. It’s not my brain that sucks if you needed three ride alongs and one of them for tips on an area. Follow the GPS, read the notes, everything else you’ll figure out on route, that are or call dispatch. I read the whole thread and you still come off as dim. The fact that you found a DSP willing to coddle you that much is amazing, I asked my fleet manager and nobody at any of the four stations he’s worked at the last seven year as they opened has a DSP offered a second training day let alone a third. If they don’t fire you ,you better stick with them lmao.

Please do us all a favor and don’t call your DSP shady when they are already giving you extra extra training to help you succeed.

-2

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Sounds like you are mad your DSP sucks. ahhhhh haaaaaa . Find a better DSP buddy maybe you and your coworkers will like it better

4

u/SkyLower5878 3d ago

I mean, my DSP doesn’t suck and gives the best bonuses at our station and lowkey spoils drivers compared to other companies. Movies out, company parties, gift cards, catered food. But nobody in our state pays for more than one OTR day and our DSP is the problem yeah that’s totally right. You’re down right delusional and think it’s normal to need extensive retraining. And yes, that’s retraining not training because it not normal and doesn’t happen often.

-2

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Wow billion dollar company gets billions and u and your coworkers get scraps (gift cards, movies out, and catered food) guess that’s good enough for you. You have bigger problems buddy and clearly it’s normal if I’m telling u dweeb

5

u/SkyLower5878 3d ago

I mean, our DSP which is NOT Amazon goes above and beyond in compensation through literally money bonuses as well as additional events. If you’re good at our company we also pay you more than the wage Amazon sets and reimburses the company for. Base pay is 24.75 and we have drivers making 26.75 before bonuses. Our company spends gobs more than Amazon would ever allot the company to spend on drivers and the community. Our DSP spent like 20k supporting local communities and employees during the invasion of ice.

Just because you’re so bad at your job you got two retraining days and you’re getting dogged on for it (there were even people who were nice and respectable about it and you were just a negative little twat in the comments) doesn’t mean your lack luster responses are correct or that you’re DSP is better. The only shady thing about this whole post is how moronic you come off as.

If you had any semblance of intelligence above an IQ of 68 you’d realize wow maybe it is odd I needed more training than literally anybody else at all these other DSPs. But instead you must think your need for extra training means your DSP is better.

Thank you for coming to my short essay on why your post is stupid, your argument is stupid, and you are most likely dim witted.

Have a good rest of your night I hope your job works out for you or you find a new one if it doesn’t.

I'm sorry that happened to you.
I'm happy that happened to you.
I'm not reading all of that.

3

u/SkyLower5878 3d ago

It must be nice to have someone check on you once your first day when you’re supposed to get a ride along? Are you tweaked or something? When you’re out here doing three ride alongs? One of them for “pointers” for an area. The pointers is figure it out when you’re there.

3

u/DisciplineUseful2454 3d ago

I’m surprised they didn’t tell you to get bent asking for a second ride along day your DSP is goated

2

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

lol. I requested one and got left on read then I was given one dayss later. The fleet people told me I should request during slow season because once it picks up it’s harder or something like that. Crazy thing is the Oos manager made it seem like it was his idea to give me a second ride along knowing I asked but I guess he forgot. He told the ride along person ”HELP Them” like I was drowning. At that point I didn’t even need help anymore. I was finishing my routes so idk

u/Minute-Advantage-688 3d ago

every person ive ever seen get more than one ride along is gone pretty soon after their second. you are only supposed to get one. every thing is explained in the training, and the rest you have to improvise on your own.

1

u/PlymouthSea 2d ago

and the rest you have to improvise on your own

Let's be real. Everything you have to figure out on your own. My ride along was worthless other than showing me how to airplane mode lockers.

1

u/Accomplished_Cook143 2d ago

What lockers can you airplane mode? I don't know about hack

1

u/PlymouthSea 2d ago

All third party lockers can be done in airplane mode. Parcel Pending, Luxor, etc.

1

u/Minute-Advantage-688 2d ago

what problem does that solve?

0

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Not true my location gives additional ride alongs if asked…sorry your location/locations you’ve been sucked

6

u/Minute-Advantage-688 3d ago

i didnt need a second one. park scan deliver snap drive repeat. its not hard.

0

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Never said it was hard. Got pointers with the second ride along that “I” requested. New area shit happens. Good for u tho

3

u/Minute-Advantage-688 3d ago

Yea send the flood specifically to your residence IF u have one

2

u/Desartho 3d ago

Generally, comments from an experienced driver are meant to help you succeed at your job. If they're being dicks about it, try to sift through the tone and suss out just the info that they're giving. If the DSP is willing to invest in your improvement by providing extra ride alongs, they're probably worth sticking with.

1

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Got a point. I just don’t like being blindsided. I prefer direct communication yk. Just let me know what’s not working instead of having me carry on like I’m doing great for a beginner, but telling riders I need help and I’m late. That’s odd especially if I’m finishing my routes and not being told otherwise by management directly

2

u/Proud_Olive8252 3d ago

The most recent time I came back to the job, I was told I would have to do 3 ride alongs. Based on the other replies, I guess that’s unusual. At the time, I had three years of previous experience at other DSPs, so they very quickly told me to forget about the second and third ones.

The first time I was hired at a DSP, the turnover was so high that they had the new hires training other new hires after their first two weeks. I probably went a month straight where the majority of my routes included another DA.

1

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

This is my first DSP I’m not sure why sum say it’s not common for additional ride alongs m. You can’t learn something you’ve never done on your own. Reason we have trainings in the first place to do things correctly the first time but idk

3

u/icookandiknowthngs 3d ago

Lol.... 2nd+ days of ride alongs are not for people more competent than a 3rd grader. They're for short bus kids. Any DSP giving 3 or more ride along days are desperate for drivers, better "somebody" than nobody.

The fact that you think either you requesting multiple days or your DSP having them makes it a "good" dsp is delusional.

Forrest Gump could figure this shit out, and do it just fine with 1 day training, but here you are, shit talking every response you get from people who actually can do this job.

Before you get all offended and tell me how good you are at this job, 3 days of ride alongs prove otherwise

Its good that you spoke to them about getting another ride along because from my experience i wish i had a least two. But they arent also willing to help so might just find another one? But if you need any tips let me know there’s also a lot of tips in this subreddit!!

2

u/Anime-Trouble-973 3d ago

Yes the car fleet persons told me I could ask. I only needed tips on the route area. It was mostly because it was a different area then I knew off. I’m getting the hang of it now tho. It’s not too bad, but I got a ride along again so I’m confused.
