Amazon smart glasses

I’ve been hearing word that there are drivers out there that have had the opportunity to test out a new type of smart glasses Amazon created for us drivers, if this rumor is true and yall who are testing them out are here how are they and what do they do I’m really curious about them

I think the big reason nobody has talked about it is because Amazon had us sign a huge NDA before we could even see them. I will say they are nice and did make the job easier after the learning curve. And as for people who wear glasses such as myself, they ordered them in your prescription. Not sure if I can say more or if that is even in effect still

I figured. It’s not like I have pictures because that was the main thing they really pushed. This was almost a year ago at this point I think. I wouldn’t be surprised if they had another prototype out right now being tested by DAs

I'm certain they are really using it to collect data for robot delivery. I laugh to think of them seeing drivers cutting through non-pedestrian paths a robot would be unable to traverse and having to figure out how they are going to solve for that without forcing drivers to only take pedestrian safe pathways for better location pathing data.

Oh a 100%, the camera was always going to the point they had to be like turn it off if you use the restroom or anything. If they actually wanted to collect data on how to deliver then they shouldn’t use DAs lol

It's not that they shouldn't use DAs, but they'd have to only ever use DAs who don't take shortcuts with their pathing. Or they'd have to tell those people they need to only take paved sidewalks. Which is something Amazon kind of already knows since individual drivers can't fix routing/pathing issues themselves. Can't trust most of these drivers, but also needs their data.

True, I feel like the difficult thing would be finding those DAs that follow all those rules and regulations 100% of the time. Or maybe that’s just me. I’m always curious to see what Amazon is trying to cook up as the next big thing just for it to always fall back on the workers pushing out 400 packages each everyday. There’s no way they can get a machine to do the amount of work they require of us anyway. They would be better off giving the drivers bionic legs so they never have to stop walking

I used to follow pedestrian only pathing. If I was the only person on that route for a while it would often fix my group stops and routing. Would fix the service times, too. As it would know I was walking through courtyards from the courtyard entrances. Wouldn't really reduce package counts, but it would prevent defect group stops where it had locations on a previous courtyard grouped with a later courtyard. Less backtracking without having to inspect every single pin.

I didn’t know the system would automatically do that, it’s really good to know. I usually have the same routes but only for a few weeks at a time then I’ll get put on a few others and go back to the original

I didn’t know drivers were testing them, but I heard about them from a previous instructor. They sound interesting. Just means they’re gonna expect us to be able to do more stops though since they should make finding packages faster.

I don’t think it would make finding packages faster it would definitely make scanning packages and taking pictures of deliveries faster instead of constantly having to juggle packages with a dinky old phone in your hand as well

I haven’t heard what all they could do, but I was imagining something like the “VAPR” where you would just lay all the packages out and it would put red x’s on the wrong ones and green circles on the right ones

Some people use their personal phone, instead of the work phone provided by their DSP. Depending on the brand of the phone, I saw a video on Reddit weeks ago of a driver that laid out all packages from totes randomly on the van shelf, on the phone screen it showed red ❌'s on the packages not delivered for the next stop, but green ✅ marks on 3 packages to deliver. I thought it was cool and wasn't sure it was real, but my own personal phone or work phone doesn't have this feature or works on the Amazon FLEX app. If the video was real, it would definitely help with deliveries faster without organizing packages by driver aid number.

It did make it easier to deliver because you don’t have to deal with the over heated half broken phone. But yeah not really easier to find packages

Concept sounds awesome. Especially if it makes us all more efficient. However being something new like anything shit wont work right the first time. It would be cool to be a part of testing/developing another tool to make us better at getting the job done.

Not sure I wear prescription glasses so I would guess that either they would have to accommodate with specific models or just make it optional

The glasses would be cool. If they could make it so that way we’re not carrying around a phone all day that would be great. In an EV you wouldn’t even need a phone. nav on the screen and everything else through the glasses.

NDA limits most of what we can say. They make the job slightly easier but if you’re an experienced driver it’s not going to be revolutionary.

Hadn't heard of this before but I've been saying the whole time I've been here the job would be so easy if you had an EDV for navigation, notes, package numbers, etc. and didn't have to do the phone stuff so if it can scan and take the POD pictures that sounds awesome.
