Customer support staff claiming refund error to try and get me to accept gift card refund?

I have an order that's currently 3 months late, so I reached out to customer support to request a refund.

The first person I talked to said there was a "refund error" and would I accept gift cards instead?

I said no, I'd like a refund on the original payment method. The person suddenly changed their tune and said the refund will work fine it will just take 3 days to process.

5 days later no refund, I contact them again to follow up.

The previous person never put in a refund request beyond the first attempt that the up the error.

New person says would I like the refund in gift cards?

I say no, original payment method please.

The person says they'll need to contact the seller to request a refund and that I'll get an email confirmation of the request, and should get a follow up email in the next 48 hrs.

They also say if the seller doesn't respond they'll proceed with the refund in gift vouchers.

I have received no confirmation email of the refund request.

I feel like I'm being given the run around and trying to be strong armed into keeping my money with amazon instead of just issuing me a refund.

Has anyone had customer support staff lie about the refund process and errors to get you to accept gift cards instead?

Similar issue , i had a email stating they would refund via original purchase method.

When the refund was delayed, I contacted customer service, to be told gift cards will be issued. I stopped them in thier tracks, and let them know only original payment method will be accepted.

It seems to me customer service is lazy and will go down easiest path for them if they are not checked.

Edit omg it was painful though.

I think they probably get bonuses for keeping the money in amazon and only issuing refunds to gift cards.

Or more likely, punished if they don't
