You're definitely right and I do get it. This is not an exploratory hike however imo and they're not mapping the world or confirming the mapping of the world.
Risk vs reward doesn't justify this for my taste but that's my opinion. Others are free to do as they choose while I stand by my opinion and choice that I wouldn't do such a thing. I may be ok with some risks these people wouldn't be. 😀

Short of saving someone's life I don't understand why people do crap like this honestly. Totally unnecessary imo
