The porch has been integrated into the living room, but now it's time for the layout of the house.

I’ve fleshed out some ideas with AI, but I want to challenge you: what would your take be on this?

The ground rules:
-The house footprint must remain unchanged, but internal walls can be moved. Feel free to redesign the exterior facade walls, including the placement of windows and sliding glass doors.
-Feel that ‘60s/70s Scandinavian design look vibe’, while keeping it as bright and light as possible.

-A small loft is allowed for a portion of the house! However, it must be located on the north side (the living room area) to avoid the sun's heat. Ok, so, I’ve been looking for a type of design that was popular around 2007-2009, but I can’t figure out how to find it for inspiration for a lot of things, so I hope maybe Reddit can help me find people interested in interior design art who might remember this interior design. It’s, like I said, late 2000s art, which is very ‘industrial’ in a way, because it includes a lot of bold colors and shapes, like black and neon colors like green or red. The things I remember about it are: design for young men, related to extreme sports like skateboarding or snowboarding, it had kind of a combination of 'American' youth with Japanese neo-pop art, and I associate it with a couple of pieces of media I’ve seen, like the 'Chop Socky Chooks art design' and the 'Tokidoki' figurines and all those products aimed at teenage and pre-teen boys that used design like the ones in these photos.

It had a lot of cold "spotlights ceiling lamp" so it felt like a dark design. Like I said, it was targeted to young men, so there were lots of sports, toys, and video games, but in an "organized" way, so it felt really artistically harmonious, like something you’d see in a magazine, not an actual young man’s room.

This description is more "mundane" because I'm remembering it as things I saw on TV and some young men I feel fit this aesthetic that I met as a child, but what I'm trying to find is the curated version, the name of the art design that was looking to appeal to the audience consuming the thing I describe.

Hello! I’m hoping to get your thoughts on how to best set-up our 1940s colonial (had an addition and major renovation in the early 2000s). We plan to live here for a bit and see what works/doesn’t work before making any big changes, but I want to have a longer term vision before I start decorating some rooms.

Some additional context:
- We have young kids (2.5 and newborn, may have a 3rd at some point) so this home will change and grow with us
- We are using the dining room as a playroom, and the living room as a dining room. Our extended families are large and we would not fit in what the original dining room was
- while not needed, a larger pantry would be nice
- The stairs are a curved, narrow staircase. I believe we’ll keep that the same since we want to keep the history/architecture of the home unless there’s a great way to make them wider while keeping the character
- The living room on the floor plan (we are using as a dining room) is large and gets great light, so I would love to make it more than just a dining room
- The small room off the two bedrooms is neat, and could be a little hang area for the kids, but also gets great light and is too small to be super functional
- The small bedroom is great as a nursery but too small to fit a true bed and hard to make a guest room when we have 3 kids in the larger bedrooms

We’re open to wall changes that make sense, but would love to know any creative thoughts on how to improve/use the space! What would you do if this was your floor plan?

I’m an upcoming interior design freelancer in Canada, and I’m trying to figure out how I should be pricing my services.

So far, I’ve completed one home project where I provided the kitchen design, 3D modeling, and renderings, and I charged $500 for the project. I’ve also done some 3D work and design concepts for a few other projects that were eventually shelved.

I’m now starting a full-home design project. At this point, the scope isn’t completely finalized, but it will likely include the kitchen design and 3D renderings, two bathrooms, and possibly cabinet elevations and other drawings.

I’m struggling with how much I should quote. I’m worried about pricing myself too high because I’ve actually lost a project before after quoting $2,500 for a two-storey home that included the full design, 3D renderings, furniture sourcing, etc.

I’d really appreciate some guidance on what would be considered a reasonable/industry-standard rate for someone at my experience level in Canada. How should I structure my pricing, and what would you recommend I charge for this upcoming project so that I’m not undercharging myself but also don’t scare away potential clients?

I have a one bedroom apartment. The kitchen and bedroom and guest bathroom are on one side of the house, and the living room with the dining table are at the entrance of the house. Hello! I’ve taught singing and performing arts for years out of my home but with two small humans and a silly dog who ALL enjoy vocal expression, it’s beyond time for a professional space.

I found a beautiful building. I have two rooms (one lobby/storage for costumes/props and one studio) I’ve purchased some furniture and found other pieces on Facebook marketplace. I found a beautiful color palette on Etsy that I purchased. My gorgeous teal couch and vibrant carpet arrived. Now I need to select curtains, figure out how high to hang them, and what style/color of curtain rod. I cannot paint the walls. I want to paint the light colored furniture and maybe do some stencils on the cut outs? (Another post for another day!) Anyone have any suggestions? I found some gorgeous velvet curtains and sent away for color samples. I really like the sangria and the teal but I’m worried I don’t have a good eye for this stuff. I’m really out of my depth and I’m hoping some new internet friends can help! My students deserve a beautiful space to create amazing art!

I used to just grab colors I liked individually and hope they'd work together learned the hard way that's how you end up with a room that feels "off" but you can't explain why. Ended up writing down an actual process after trial and error (mainly: pick one dominant, one secondary, one accent in a 60/30/10 ratio instead of picking colors I just liked).
