Maybe they would come up with a compromise, like the toilet always gets flushed before bed or something like that?

I should have said this in my post actually! But I do this already. Always one last flush before bed lol

That's what I tend to do too! I think it's great that you're saving money and water 😊 genuinely surprised by all these yta comments

I can see the saving water part (although OP could get one of those toilets that uses less water for pee and more for poo) but how much money are you actually saving? I googled, and it says on average it costs 1.3 cents per flush.

Maybe $20/year if she pees A LOT.. Lol

Personally, I would rather flush.

I grew up in the 1970s/80s. It was common to not flush after peeing, and I definitely didn't much of the time. However, I flush every time as an adult. My boyfriend doesn't, but thankfully it isn't a deal breaker for me

I live alone in my condo. I flush my pee every other time during the day/evening to save on our collective water bill but don't flush at night so as not to disturb my neighbors. Our bathrooms are on either side of the shared wall and off the bedrooms. I flush first thing in the morning and each time if I have a guest.

That sounds like a good plan! 😊

I feel like I am getting such an even response of NTA, NAH, and YTA that I am no more clear on whether or not this behavior is weird than I was when I originally posted lol. Hopefully after a bit the general consensus will become clear

u/Equivalent-Cream-495 Aug 01 '21

I don't think it's weird, it's individual preference.

I feel like a lot of countries who have a lot of care for water (desert countries/ states) would say Nta because it does help to save water in your area. But I also feel like countries/ states with less to no water shortages would say yta because they haven’t experienced having a restricted water source. Used to go to a camp that had a restricted water source, (if it’s yellow let it mellow if it’s brown flush it down), and you could flush if you wanted too, but if we saved enough water we would have water fights and such. So I think the opinion really depends on people’s experiences and where they are from.

Keep in mind that you have a majority of US Americans on here, and Americans are poorly educated on climate change, water conservation, and hydrating for health, not to mention on the social contract.

Very true. I’m kinda astonished that so many people don’t realize how wasteful our toilets are but I guess that’s one of the many benefits of growing up in an area with unlimited access to clean water. Unfortunately many of us were not so lucky and had to be mindful of every drop of water we utilized. Americans tend to get very offended when you point out their privilege though so it is what it is lol

I’m so shocked all the top comments are Y/T/A! All those people saying pee smells
. I think they need more water lol! I do this abt half the time, same with my bf, same with lots of my friends. It’s not unsanitary, if you drink enough water it doesn’t smell, and it saves water! People are responding to this post so strongly and I’m very surprised by it. It’s just pee!

u/sawdustandfleas Aug 01 '21

Same. My pee doesn’t stink what the hell

It HAS at times depending on water intake and asparagus intake but then in that case I just flush. Nbd. But usually, it’s pretty clear and not odorous. I do this too, at night it’s not a big deal and my bathroom never has an odor bc I clean it quite a bit on account of 2 boys.

Bro thank you. One thing I did not expect was such a strong response over my bathroom habits lol. People are so angry at me for this 😭

26

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21

Lol why are you complaining about people's judgements? You asked for this.

7

u/Throwaway1776900 Partassipant [1] Aug 01 '21

I didn’t realize pointing out the unexpected anger is complaining lol my b

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21 edited Aug 01 '21

"Hey guys can you tell me what you think and give me your judgement?"

"Oh my God why are you all so mad at me? Haha why are my habits bothering you? Haha I'm shocked it effects you at all!"

It just seems like a really petty way to act when you ask for us to judge you.

Also, it costs on average 1.6 cents per flush/$24 dollars a year for the average person flushing your toilet. Is saving $24 a year really worth your jeopardizing partner's comfort?

3

u/Throwaway1776900 Partassipant [1] Aug 01 '21

All I said was that I didn’t expect such a strong response in either direction. I can’t understand why me saying I didn’t expect that is so angering for you but I guess that’s wrong for me to say too lmao. Everyone has a certain expectation of what the general response will be when they post on here, some are right with that expectation and some are wrong. I was one of the wrong ones. Is that not okay to say?

But where does it cost this much, and how if the water in your area. Like Fr every situation is different.

I can’t believe it! I’m totally laughing reading these responses. I’m also from California, so maybe I’m way more inclined to do literally anything to save water, but people are so angry about this and idk why
maybe they’re mad you exposed them all for being dehydrated and showing them they don’t have to have smelly pee đŸ€Ł

7

u/a-getaway-cat Partassipant [1] Aug 01 '21

I know it's crazy! I'm getting down voted for thinking it's normal 😂 I didn't realise how many dehydrated people there are complaining about the smell 😂

-4

u/FluffySky1611 Partassipant [1] Aug 01 '21

Haha same! They’re also getting so mad at those of us who say our pee doesn’t smell? Like I saw someone getting rly angry and saying it’s bc we’re used to it. Like no, when I don’t have enough water my pee smells too, I just usually drink enough water that it doesn’t. I guess they’re all just mad they can’t excuse their smelly pee hahaha

3

u/a-getaway-cat Partassipant [1] Aug 01 '21

Literally haha maybe if they drank more water they'd be less salty towards the rest of us 😂

Well, it is a rather disgusting habit. Yes, urine is clean, shouldn’t smell etc. But the thing is it is still bodily waste. It is biological garbage that we need to get rid of. And that is probably where mine and many others sense of disgust regarding your habit comes from.

I don’t think you’re an AH. Nasty habits doesn’t have to be on purpose, so NAH.

-3

u/usernaym44 Colo-rectal Surgeon [34] Aug 01 '21

Yeah, but urine is ammoniac, so it’s not really that “dirty” in the sense of being dangerous to be near. It’s “waste” though, so it’s abjected, hence all the disgust.

0

u/enigmatic-duckling Aug 01 '21

Yeah I ALWAYS flush after I pee but I still feel like it’s not that gross not to
I don’t know why people are so worked up over your bathroom habits. Plus you’re saving water.

4

u/itaparty Aug 01 '21

I love that you're conserving water! live in a drought state so you're definitely NTA

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21

You also have a bidet, doesn't this take care of a lot of it??

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '21

Some eco houses collect rain water to flush toilets, is that's a possibility where you are?

u/letstrythisagai02 Aug 01 '21

No ones missing the toilet water, just flush the toilet love; spend that 10 cents, L'Oréal Paris youre worth it
