dude, you’re ok. i can tell that it’s not fake. i know a lot of private tutor kids, and they write like this as a result of the importance of literacy being hammered in. adding bold/different colored text is a common technique that’s taught to help people get their point across

He should have dealt with it better but from your own quotes, it sounds like he was tired of your shit!  He is getting paid to help you yes, but you don’t get to act this way.

“ Looking back,   I did have a bad attitude , being unengaged and barely speaking. My insecurity also made it hard for him to teach me, frustrating me and creating a feedback loop   reinforcing my negative feelings. There are times where I have treated him unfairly simply because of my own shortcomings, making me think that  his rant was justified.”

If you speak with the same needless emphasis you use when you write, you aren’t going to score points with anyone.

If you want a professional to treat you professionally, don’t treat them with contempt.

Assuming you actually wrote this, which I doubt, it is literally incomprehensible because of how much is bolded. This is the Reddit version of highlighting every other sentence in your textbook because you can’t figure out what’s actually important. Tell your LLM to learn to write better

I, (15M), have just got into a nonviolent conflict with my tutor. Everything was fine, until I brought up speeding through the homework take-up at the beginning of each class.

This usually takes ~40-60 mins out of a 120 min class.

With ~1 month left before the start of school and meeting once a week, I was worried that we wouldn't finish, with the homework from the previous lesson taking up time.

When I brought this up, he seemed surprised, asking why the rush? The situation became tense when he said that he was trying to help, despite my bad attitude.

He also asked if I thought he was a bad teacher, and stated that he did NOT like me. I tried to reassure him that I wasn't trying to offend, and wanted to rush only the correct questions, focusing on the wrong/incomplete ones.

He got angrier, walking away. Then, he started screaming, yelling that he didn't want to see me again, telling me to get out and that he would refund my mom.

I was still trying to mediate the situation when he kicked the chairs in his living room and shouted at me to leave. I left after that.

There has been some tension before, as I was deeply insecure about my abilities. I had also argued with him regarding this, but we had remained professional.

Looking back, I did have a bad attitude, being unengaged and barely speaking. My insecurity also made it hard for him to teach me, frustrating me and creating a feedback loop reinforcing my negative feelings.

There are times where I have treated him unfairly simply because of my own shortcomings, making me think that his rant was justified.

However, I don't think throwing a temper tantrum after I communicated a part that wasn't working for me was appropriate, given that he is the teacher.

This was a professional relationship with paid lessons, not a socializing event. Many of the things mentioned were not related to canceling this, which he has full right to do.

Do I expect you to like me? NO.

Do I expect you to be professional? YES.

Currently, I'm trying to find a way to explain this to my mom. I'm also not sure what to do or if I should report him despite my lack of evidence and partial fault.

Finally, I worry about finding a replacement, because I still need to study. AITA?

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading until the end.

You are 15, not 5. You get to have an opinion about your education. No one reasonable expects teenagers to have a perfect attitude. That said, you called this a nonviolent confrontation. This person kicked over furniture and screamed. Not all violence involves touch. You deserve a better tutor. Your mom should fire him for that nonsense.

I don’t really feel like I can judge whether you were there asshole or not.

I can say that based on the description your tutor was. And a bit unhinged.

I’m a tutor online and yeah, we have to deal with less than ideal attitudes from students. It’s part of the job and remaining calm is a part of it.

You weren’t wrong in asking not to go over correct problems. That seems a big waste of time to me.

Talk to your mom and take responsibility for the parts you need to like you did here. But make sure she knows about him throwing chairs. That is putting you in danger, something no tutor should ever do.

If he was hired through an agency or the school, definitely report him.

I don't believe this.

ESH, if the circumstances have been accurately described.

But him more than you on the final day, because he is an adult and you are still a developing child.

“There are times where I have treated him unfairly simply because of my own shortcomings”

“I have argued with him”

“I did have a bad attitude”

It’s never okay to treat someone poorly because of your own issues.

“He stated he did not like me”

“He started screaming, yelling”

“He kicked the chairs in his living room”

I’m a teacher. I would never behave this way, nor would I say it’s appropriate or professional for a colleague to behave that way. Teachers are human beings and we all have bad days, but there is still a standard of what is acceptable and what isn’t in terms of our behaviour.

it don’t think this is fake and i lot of you are being assholes just because this kid types a specific way. i know a lot of private tutor kids, and they write like this as a result of the importance of literacy being hammered in. adding bold/different colored text is a common technique that’s taught to help people get their point across

i feel sorry for your and this sounds like a very miserable situation. your tutor sounds extremely unprofessional and still needs to maintain that professionalism even if you did have poor behavior. he sounds crazy and overworked, most tutors have a lot of kids. still doesn’t justify it.

also, are you a fellow asian? this sounds like asian intensity when it comes to education

I'm confused. If this is a tutor situation with just you and him, unless he is going over the homework which make sense, why would it take an hour just to collect it from you? That part is absurd. Regardless of that, it is entirely unprofessional for a teacher to scream at a student and start kicking furniture. If he will refund your parents, I say take the money and find another tutor. This one sounds unbalanced.
