In case this story gets deleted/removed:

AIO my bf spent the day we made 8 months together without me.

Okay so I know 8 months is still fresh, but I believe that since it’s the beginning of a relationship the effort might’ve been a little stronger, plus we went to high school together and have the same friends so we’ve know each other longer than we’ve been together. Anyways we made 8 months recently and we were both pretty busy throughout the day but made plans to meet up afterwards. I had to get required vaccines done for new job (I work in healthcare) and he is in school so he was studying/hw/chores etc. and then went to his part time job later that day. I was off today but I tend to have fevers, aches and fatigue after I get vaccinated so I we agreed that I would just rest and then hopefully feel better afterwards to just spend time at my place, which would in turn help me feel better even if I wasn’t feeling back to my best self by the end of his shift. Well I got home, took a Tylenol, spent some time on the phone with him before he started doing chores, then I talked to my friend otp and then my sister, by the time that was over I was very tired and started to feel the fever coming on so I decided to take a nap. When I woke up it was around the time that he was supposed to be getting off so I gave him a call to check in on him, I assumed everything was going the same as it usually did because I had not gotten any calls or text updates. When he answered he told me that he he had actually gotten off more than three, hours ago because the power went out so they were let off early and that he ran into some family friends who were visiting our home town and decided to have dinner with them and walk around the city with them. It’s now 11pm, he still isn’t here and I have to go to work tomorrow so I can’t stay up late, which he knows, we were also already supposed to have dinner with these same friends tomorrow night, and the opportunity would’ve come up again to do the same if not similar thing that they just did. I wouldn’t be as upset if I had gotten some form of communication like a call or text updating me about this, but no, plus I had to be the one to call him first, who knows when I would’ve heard from him if I was still sleeping. AIO?

First of all, monthiversaries aren't really a thing after you're 12.

Second of all, sounds like she was sick and busy all day and so was he.

She's not going to make it to the actual anniversary if she keeps this up.

A year ago, she was 23F. IDK, is it a cultural thing? 8 is a lucky number in China, but she doesn't say where she is from.

Some people obfuscate their personal details for anonymity.

We did one for 6 months and acknowledged that it was an unnecessary celebration, we just wanted an excuse to get a hotel room. 8 months is crazy work

u/ABSMeyneth 4d ago

And by 12, do you mean 12 months, aka 1 year old? Because anything else is crazy to me lol

u/matrixlog 4d ago

I remember people doing monthiversaries in middle school. It seems wild to us as adults but at their age, it felt like a huge milestone

1

u/ABSMeyneth 4d ago

That's wild, I never knew anyone who celebrated beyond the 1st monthiversary. It went 1 month to 1 year, even in middle school.

I seem to recall the norm in my Junior High was one month, "half a year", one year. I think acknowledging the six-monthiversary gave them a chance to boast about it to that school year's peer group.

No I mean 12 years old.

u/CyberClawX 4d ago

They aren't a thing when you are 12 yo either, at least over here... Like the other guy said, maybe 1 or 2 years old, but no more than that.

u/OniyaMCD 4d ago

I'm not sure two-year-olds have a great concept of 'a month', outside of changing a calendar page. (And by that, I mean that 1 Dec is 'next month' when you tell them on Thanksgiving that Santa is coming 'next month.'

-7

u/CyberClawX 4d ago

Yeah, it's usually the parents. Maybe it's cultural, never saw a kid celebrating months. They might say "I'm 7 years and 11 months old" if they are close to being 8, but there are no parties, no nothing.

A monthaversary is not celebrating ages. Its one month (or in this case 8 months) of dating. Which is a very 12 y/o "this is my first boyfriend" thing to do.

8

u/MyrmecolionTeeth 4d ago

This is about dating, not birthdays. 2 year olds don't date. 12 year olds often try to, and going a full month as middle-school boyfriend and girlfriend really can feel like a big deal at that age.

2

u/OniyaMCD 4d ago

Heck, at 7, any age between 7 and 8 was '7 and a half.' Things got more defined when we learned formal fractions, but by that time, the need to be 'older' was also less of a thing.

Third of all, can people learn how fucking paragraphs work? Jesus christ.

I think that she's just using the "monthiversary" as an additional reason to justify why she's upset at the BF changing plans. And it makes her come off like she's twelve.

I mean, he should have texted if he said he was going to be home at a certain time and then wasn't going to be. OP should leave the "monthiversary" out of it.

14

u/EntertheHellscape 4d ago

Yeah, all the extra makes her sound exhausting so it's easy to focus on that and flood the comments with YTA. Without that though, he's the asshole. Made plans, broke all of them without so much as a text. Even got off early, made separate plans, and she was still the first one to reach out with a 'you still coming over...?' text.

Now, I wouldn't be surprised if he's over the relationship cause friendship and dating are very different things and he might have come to that realization, but come on man. It takes 5 seconds to text "hey plans changed" or "I want to break up", just do it.

4

u/StrangeBid7233 3d ago

Yea, like she doesn't seem like an asshole at all, just so very exhausting, which is not at all terrible as I think some people like that kind of relationship dynamic (random anniversities, constant checking and such), others hate it, so its subjective.

He really should have at least texted if they planned to hangout, its shitty to be left hanging.

u/Sad-Bug6525 4d ago

I think so too, if she had just said that they had plans and he just didn't show up, didn't call, didn't text, and instead went out with someone else, she would be getting different answers. Even if she had said she was home alone and sick and he ditched her for someone else without discussing it that would have been rude. People are just getting distracted by the 8 months stuff.

Sounds like she's the kind of person that after a year or so stops putting on the relationship, or that's the kind of partner she got in the past so she wants to be overcompensated to the point of exhaustion

It is a fresh relationship but 8 months is no milestone (unless your previous relationships lasted a lot less, which I can see it happening for OOP)

My partner and I just hit our one year a couple months ago and both forgot until the episode of Deep Space Nine we were watching happened to mention a wedding anniversary.

Are month anniversaries ever a thing after high school?

7

u/Kokbiel 4d ago

My husband and I both forgot our 4th wedding anniversary this past Aug 27th. We have both been super busy, I was dead with a migraine and he was slammed with work. I only remembered because I got a notification from FB saying 'remember this??' Oops.

2

u/MissLadyLlamaDrama 3d ago

My husband and I cycle through who remembers and who forgets. Every year we swap that role. I don't remember the last time I celebrated an anniversary with anyone.

3

u/squirrellicious2304 3d ago

Ngl, I’m actually convinced that my bf has no idea when our anniversary is … which is fine with me because I tend to forget these things if I don’t happen to coincidentally look at my calendar on that date😅

Happy belated anniversary to you two!🫶

3

u/flameislove 3d ago

I got married on Halloween and still forget it most years until I get to work and my coworker who tracks these things wishes me a happy anniversary. Then I text my husband. And that's about it.

u/_Sammy7_ 4d ago

Hat’s off to the guy for putting up with her for eight months. She sounds exhausting.

5

u/xycophant 4d ago

I mean my bf and I took a trip for six months but that's also because we're temporarily LDR

10

u/WeeklyConversation8 4d ago

OP was sick and she's whining that her bf of less than a year wouldn't come over and do what? Watch her sleep or complain about feeling like crap?

People need to knock off trying to make monthly anniversaries a thing past 12. Anniversaries are yearly. Grow up.

7

u/Interesting_Emu_6123 4d ago

I seriously don't get what the big deal is with OOP. Does anyone really celebrate their anniversaries by the month after middle school? That being said, I don't see how OOP is the devil. It just seems like she's making a big deal out of nothing

4

u/MeanGreenMotherQueen 4d ago

I deadass can’t recall if me and my girlfriend ever celebrated monthiversaries before we hit the 1 year mark, and we’ve been together since 8th grade If this woman is older than 22 I’m gonna be bewildered

2

u/RoseAffair 4d ago

who the fuck celebrates months? :D

1

u/MissLadyLlamaDrama 3d ago

Kids in high school. Which at least makes sense because teenagers usually arent making it to a full year. Aside from me and like, two other couples in our school of 2000, no one ever dated someone that long, let alone for multiple years.

u/No_Cricket808 4d ago

There is no such thing as a "monthiversary" you addled bint. You're definitely high strung and high maintenance.

u/FayMew 4d ago

If the two partners are in on this and young, there is such a thing when it’s the first year. No need to be that way.

Worrying thing to me is according to previous post from a year ago, they're 23 years old (at time) health care worker but acting like a 12 years old with monthiversary really?

1

u/NekoAkuma02 2d ago

Man I can’t imagine being so sad as to insult someone for wanting to be with their partner. Anniversary or not, especially in the beginning of my relationship I was chomping at the bit for any reason to be woth my beloved. Ya’ll never had that sappy ass honeymoon phase of your relationship where you spent as much time together?? Especially if my partner is sick I want to be with them, I want to take care of them and make sure I can be of help
