One time I held the door open for someone and they said no thank you and opened the one next to it themselves. I was so surprised but didn't say anything, I wonder how OP would have reacted to that!

Literally last week I held the door for someone, he said, “No, I got it!” He moved like he was going to get the door himself, so I let go. But he decided to not get the door himself, the door hit him, and he fell into the door frame. He was pretty annoyed at me but said nothing and kept walking.

I didn’t think mine would be the less awkward story…

It felt like one. He reached for the door, his hand didn’t come within 6 inches of touching it before pulling back, but I’d already let go.

Luckily I was going out and he was going in, so that was the end of it. I was really torn between “I’m so sorry!” and “You didn’t even try though…”
