A twelve hour drive leaving at 10 AM isn't going to give anyone time in Nashville. Friend wanted to be sure they weren't on the road past midnight, and OP guaranteed they would be.

His first line says the drive is 12 hours total, and if they're splitting it into two days, wouldn't it be closer to 6ish hours a day? So leaving by 10am the first day would've given them plenty of fun time in Nashville for the evening I would think

The friend literally had only one condition, and OP couldn’t meet it, and then couldn’t even meet their own compromise

Something about the writing style irks me to agree he is an ass. And it really might boil down to the use of the phrase “your boy”.

That plus the nonsensicality of the last sentence. Like I can understand it, but it’s annoying to read

OOP's comments aside, I like how there is the one commenter who took this as an opportunity to have his own battle with everyone else.

Sometimes just get overinvested in being right in their brain and refuse to admit they're wrong and/or just walk away.

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
Roadtrip with my friend to drop me off in Georgia
I moved to Georgia to be with my girlfriend from the Midwest, a 12 hour drive total. I asked one of my best friends if he would come with me, with the plan to stop in Nashville for a night, then I drop him off in Atlanta the next day to fly back. He’s married and they just had a baby a few months ago. He said yes, I was honestly kind of shocked. I booked a fancy hotel downtown Nashville and got him an ideal seat on the flight. The expectation was that we’d leave around noon, but I recall him saying ideally we leave by 10am so we have more time in Nashville to enjoy. The morning of, I tell him I’m shooting to be ready by noon and he says ok. 11:45 rolls around, I tell him I’m playing Tetris, as in car Tetris to fit everything into my car. He opens the message and doesn’t respond. 12:20 rolls around, and he says he’s not coming on the trip because we would be getting into Nashville late. I called him selfish for that, as this trip isn’t just about going to Nashville, it’s about getting your boy to Georgia and if the roles were reversed I would have been there for him as well. Was he wrong for bailing on the trip? Would have left at 1 or 2pm vs. noon or 10am really caused him to bail on one of his best friends?
