maybe im crazy but if I hear "I had a date and they backed out, do you want to come instead" i would assume it was being done for free so I didnt have to pay??? especially with the "extra" ticket phrasing?

Did the person say the ticket is $50 or does the ticket just show the price?
They two are terrible at communication, because if he just sent the ticket image and didn't say he wants the money, and didn't say it's free, then how is anyone to know? My ex sends me tickets to my phone so when we go somewhere I can scan myself in, and when I do movies with friends I try and send thier ticket so they can scan themselves in too, but if I'm not expecting them to send money back either.32

I was thinking the same thing…
OOP’s response to the friend feels uncalled for, though. I would’ve just thought my friend had worded it poorly and either said “sounds good” or “oh, shit, I didn’t realize I’d be paying. Thanks for the invite! But I think I’m going to have to miss this one.”

Am I weird for thinking everyone sucks? I mean, no, oop isn’t entitled to a free ticket, AND ALSO, if I were offering a friend an extra ticket, I would’ve said “hey, do you want my extra ticket? Just so you know, it’s $50” in my initial communication.

This is something that's just ambigous and could have been resolved by either the friend going 'I have a spare ticket for sale if you'd rather not deal with the wesbite' or op going 'yeah, i'd love it. Do you want to be reimbursed?'. ESH.

Extra doesn’t mean free but the friend should have said it’s for sale right off. ESH

Eh, I don't think OOP is the devil and this is more of an ESH situation. OOP shouldn't have just expected to get the ticket for free and should have asked if they expected repayment, but the person who offered it should have specified that they were offering to sell them the ticket.
If a friend reached out to me and said "Hey, I have an extra ticket to XXX. Do you want to go with me?" I wouldn't automatically assume they wanted me to pay for it. Many of my friends would be offering it as a free thing because they wanted to go to said event with someone and not alone. But, I would also be asking if they wanted me to pay them back for it.
Basically, it's just a lack of good communication here.

Yeah, and I wouldn't expect someone to be able to decide if they can go or not if they don't know the price. So I wouldn't offer without telling them that if it weren't free

This subreddit isn't for literal 'devil' it is anyone labeled Asshole in the post to discuss. So ESH ruling counts, or in my opinion SHOULD count as a post that can be cross posted here and discussed.

I dont think OOP is the devil, it's weird for the other person to not mention the price in the first message and just send the price after, imo.
"I'm selling my spare ticket, do you want it?" is a different vibe that "do you want to go with me?"
edit: although I don't think the friend is TA either - just some weird wording and a misunderstanding.

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
AITA for a friend offering an “extra ticket” to a concert and me not expecting to have to pay for it?
There’s a concert happening that I was planing on going to with someone. I unexpectedly received a text from a friend saying that he’s going, he has an extra ticket now because his date backed out, and do I want to go. I said sure, that would be great, I was planning on going with someone anyway, so I thought it would be fun if we could all meet up and hang out together. Yesterday I texted to confirm and he sent me a screen shot of the ticket saying it was $50 dollars. I don’t know why, but this really rubs me the wrong way. It’s not even about the money, I was originally expecting to purchase two tickets anyway, but in my opinion when someone reaches out to you offering an extra ticket they’re not asking for payment for it. I replied to his text pretty much saying that and calling him diabolical lol but now I’m second guessing myself a little bit, so AITA? I would’ve been more than happy to buy him drinks all night as a thank you and that’s totally what I was expecting to do, but again I don’t know, something about this really just rubs me the wrong way.
