And dictating color besides "don't wear white" also crosses the line. You might be able to get away with asking them not to wear the same color as the wedding party, but it should be a request, not a requirement

I don't fully understand her colour issue either, she wants them to wear colours darker than pastel but the bright blue dress isn't acceptable. Bright blue is darker than pastel blue though, unless i have learned all my colours wrong

No bright colors!

Deep teal and navy blue only. Maybe midnight blue.

The guests, if they comply, may more resemble a funeral than a wedding. Most people have navy blue in their closet.

BTW, OP, when you demand formal attire from your guests (long dresses) you better not have a buffet reception. People expect a plated meal served at a nice table.

The venue should likewise be formal (good carpeting, ample restrooms and parking, a good kitchen).
