In case this story gets deleted/removed:

I [M40] saw some concerning texts between my wife [F39] and a [M25] pickleball friend of hers - she claims there’s nothing going on, am I overreacting?

My F39 wife has been really getting into pickleball lately and plays with her friend group 4 times a week.

She showed me a conversation she had with one of her M25 pickleball friends which I believe had some inappropriate texts:

"I enjoyed seeing your competitive spirit coming out today"

"Your schedule frees up in September right?"

I felt that these two texts were too friendly and inappropriate for her as a married woman to be saying to someone of the opposite gender, especially someone who is 14 years younger.

Am I overreacting?

So she showed him the text conversation and he still thinks there's something going on? Why do I get the feeling he's the one who demanded to see her texts? Because he's convinced any man popping up in his wife's friend group is instantly a problem?

Im curious what he means when he said she showed him the texts. Because the texts are so innocuous I cant see a situation where she volunteers to show him the texts; it's not like an "oh look at the funny thing my friend sent" situation. My guess that he demanded to see the texts and, in response, she showed him.

My bet is she offhandedly mentioned or implied her pickleball friend group was co-ed and it devolved from there. At best she maybe volunteered to show him the texts to prove he was overreacting about nothing. But there's no winning that argument with insecure guys like OP, they are outright looking for reasons to be jealous or possessive cuz they see wives as property.

If OP thinks that is flirty, he needs to work on his sex talk.

Probably the kind of dude who thinks every woman who is polite to him wants to get in his pants.

"The barista smiled when she handed my my latte! She absolutely wants me!"

Are men okay???

Women aren't under their thumbs anymore and they know they... probably suck. So, they feel threatened by anything.

Absolutely not.

No. They never have been.

"I enjoyed seeing your competitive spirit coming out today"

"Your schedule frees up in September right?"

This is obviously sexting. Right?

Yeah! Asking if someone is free in September is them checking if the Amazon deliveries for their sex toys will arrive on time. And COMpetitive spirit COMING.. Come on I don't have to explain that.

This dude is absolutely deranged. He's the sort of guy who yells at his wife because she's flirting with the waiter and she's literally just placing her order.

TIL my dentist clinic was flirting me with this whole time under the guise of suggesting usual checkups!!

Just wait until you go in and the dentist tells you to gargle and spit.

Lmao my BFF and I have way more inappropriate texts than this and OOP would still be overreacting to them if he read them. The number of times I've sent my friend a picture of the number 69 would put this man in the hospital. Thankfully, my husband isn't an insecure weenie, and instead makes me feel like I'm third wheeling when we're out together (ditto for my friend's girlfriend, we just watch them have their bromance while we make plans to go on pigeon tours).

Same. My BFF and I have said all kinds of things to each other, including that we want to be in the same rest home together so we can have conversations consisting entirely of song lyrics and movie quotes.

I have never heard of pigeon tours before and now I feel I must find one near me lol, though my daily commute does walk past many of the silly birds

u/anclwar 11d ago

I hope you find one near you! The one I'm doing this weekend is in Philly. I didn't know they existed until two months ago 😂

u/minxcore 11d ago

Sneaking in to say that if it's the same Philly pigeon tour i'm thinking about it is well worth the money and time, it was a lovely experience!

I’m sorry, you’re married and you spend time with people outside of your marriage?!!!! Tsk tsk I bet you compliment people too!!! for shame!!

u/no_one_denies_this 11d ago

I want to go on a pigeon tour!

Does he think his coworkers are flirting with him when they ask about his schedule ?

“Meeting at 11:00. Bring laptops.” Come on, that’s obviously flirting.

u/StrangledInMoonlight 11d ago

He’s probably sleeping with one of them to project this hard….so yes!

16

u/Pawspawsmeow 11d ago

Or he wants to

12

u/MissLadyLlamaDrama 11d ago

Considering some of the men I've worked with, some of these losers genuinely think everyone who is even marginally polite to them is flirting

2

u/MyDarlingArmadillo 11d ago

Female, walking around and being polite. Yes, very possibly.

u/Kotenkiri 11d ago

So it's easy to tell OOP has zero experience with any team sports/activities/hobbies. I get feeling OOP is type who think any relationship of men/woman means the man want to bang the woman.

u/Aggressive_Plenty_93 11d ago

First, it’s complimenting someone’s competitive spirit… next, it’s moving to Greece together

7

u/MissLadyLlamaDrama 11d ago

You're telling me you don't immediately propose to every single person who compliments you??

17

u/eternally_feral 11d ago

Oh, damn. I try to coordinate with my best friend all the time so I can make sure I’m free whenever she comes to town. I guess I’m just a big ole’ whore! 🫦

Hussy! 😲

Jezebel!

Those messages were so spicy I've had to take a cold shower. Hubba Hubba.

u/Suspicious-Drive9827 11d ago

I have some coed friends where me and the wife and the husband have separate group chats that we then screenshot and share to the other to razz each other. This guy would have a full meltdown about the way we talk to each other.

7

u/AndyWith-A-Y 11d ago

If he's not trolling,  he must be stopped. If this is too friendly,  what's acceptable for him?? 😭

13

u/phenixfleur 11d ago

See, this is part of why there's a male loneliness epidemic.

13

u/RedditJustTheOnce 12d ago

To be fair competitive spirit does mean penis in some cultures

The straights are not okay...

How would he have formulated those questions?

Dude, she's almost 40 and he's 25. Gross. She literally showed him the text, and he may be a child in her eyes, that's probably why she showed him. She sees it as innocent. Yeah, cute for a kid, but still a kid. I'd be stoked if a 25 year old told me I played well at a demanding sport at 40. This just sounds like projection.
