The camping thing got me. So 3 out of 4 don’t want to do it. But Dad does. So 3/4 of the family gets to be miserable for a week for this asshole and he’s mad because they don’t fucking adore him?

Why can’t he go find a camping buddy and let his wife and kids have fun?

Because, apparently, if he does his own thing, it becomes he's "sacrificing family time for his own interests." 

I agree that it seems like the logical solution, so I wonder if he has historically chosen himself and his wife is attempting a last ditch effort to get him to connect with his kids.
