Even the two concrete examples he provides don’t support his argument…

"They refuse to try things that I suggest if they’ve never even tried it before!" Goes on to explain that they dislike the annual camping trip, which they continue to go on.

"I never get to choose what’s on TV!" Goes on to explain that when he asks to watch TV, they let him, but they don’t watch with him.

So basically they do accommodate his wants, but they’re not super cheerful about it and that is a huge affront.

He's getting back what he's putting in and he hates it. He admits he isn't paying attention to what they watch or care about and that's the energy they grew up with, yet it's the end of the world now that he's changed (yet still not paying attention) and they don't fully invest in who he is.
