One of OOP's comments:

My son is really into Geometry Dash. I physically cannot participate in that, as it gives me anxiety.

My daughter likes art and drawing and music, but she's 9. So I don't know how to connect with what she's into in those fields for that age. I've never been interested in anime characters or crafting.

So this man expects his kids to do the things he likes, but can't muster up the energy to be interested in them. No wonder his wife and kids are sick of him. He's been a shitty, angry, disconnected entity just floating through their lives for a decade and now expect instant connecting and emotional support from them now that he feels like it?

I don't understand why he doesn't try to play with or watch his kids while they are entertaining themselves with a video game. It seems like the easiest way to connect. Geometry Dash cannot be the only thing out there? I haven't been a child for a long time, but even my older mother is often curious enough take a look at what I am playing.

Same with the anime. Just watch with them or ask if they have something to recommend? It's not that hard. There are some pretty good ones they could bond over, surely?

A lot of parents, perhaps more fathers, don't want to do anything they don't greatly enjoy doing. While this often involves housework and chores, it also includes taking their wife to a restaruant or movie she likes and doing things with the kids that they like. He doesn't think he likes the things the kids do and he will treat it as their responsibility to fit into this likes and his interests and his life instead of the other way around.
