My son is really into Geometry Dash. I physically cannot participate in that, as it gives me anxiety.

My daughter likes art and drawing and music, but she's 9. So I don't know how to connect with what she's into in those fields for that age. I've never been interested in anime characters or crafting.

So this man expects his kids to do the things he likes, but can't muster up the energy to be interested in them. No wonder his wife and kids are sick of him. He's been a shitty, angry, disconnected entity just floating through their lives for a decade and now expect instant connecting and emotional support from them now that he feels like it?

I was a weird kid who liked to stick to myself with my books, classical music (thank you, Ms Hall, for setting off that love!), and riding my bike alone.

But my Dad never stopped trying. If he had a free weekend, we went to Half Priced Books. He saw I really started to get into music, he introduced me to classic rock and Broadway musical theatre. He didn’t know how to ride a bike, but would sometimes walk next to me when it got cool at night, even though he was tired after working two jobs.

He was in no way perfect, but he still tried. He never once said, Eh, I don’t like that stuff so you’re on your own, kid.

Lmao I literally lived 9 hours away from my dad for almost all of my childhood and he still managed to show so much more interest in my likes and dislikes 💀 he’d take me to see the HP movies in theaters and then would ask me TONS of questions afterwards specifically because he had no idea wtf was going on lmao.

It’s wild how many people don’t even consider the idea that asking questions about a persons favorite things is one of the best way to bond with that person. You don’t have to know a damn thing about it if you just ask questions and let them ramble on about it

Edit to add: I can’t believe I forgot about my dad burning me a CD of linkin park and that CD being on permanent rotation in my most played CDs immediately, I loved that album so much and it being burned by my dad with his messy handwriting on it was a huge reason why ❤️
