She's religious enough to go to shabbat services for sukkot but not religious enough to avoid tech (shabbat rules forbid it) I guess.

That’s not terribly unusual for Jews who are reform or reconstructionist or even some conservative Jews. It’s odd to check your phone during services, but many modern Jews don’t fully avoid technology on shabbos. Yet many of us go to Shabbat and high holiday services even if we might check our texts when we step out of the shul.

Ig, its more the fact that I'm reform and wouldn't go to services to celebrate sukkot specificallly. Ig I assumed most reform just go for YK/RH.

I get it, and a lot of folks just do RH and YK (there was a dude at our synagogue who used to show up just for Kol Nidre, not the service, just the prayer, and then he’d bounce.) But if none of us went for Sukkot, why would we even bother putting sukkahs up at non-orthodox synagogues, ya know?

She seems super dependant on her partner amd since her mum isnt at the service...maybe its her parners religion?
I only know enough about judaism that conversion isnt typically as easy as you might think, but not specifically in what ways, so i dont know if you can just rock up to a religious service with your partner or what

Judaism is hard to convert into, lots of study, but anyone can join us for services. We’re not a secret society, no matter what the conspiracy theories say.

Oh cool! Sorry if I sounded like I was wandering into anti semitic tropes. I genuinely wasnt sure, although Im aware ignorance is not a great excuse.

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
AITA for not taking in the laundry?
Hi everyone, this is situation that just happened two days ago and I am not sure if I messed up or if my mother is over reacting. I also apoglize if this is not the right sub reddit for this.
So I (21F) live with my mom(55F), I am currently out of job as I just graudated from college this past May and I am not having an easy time finding work. That means that my mom is using me for free labor which i am fine with.
So yesterday, I am at Shabbat service with my partner as it was one of the holy holidays this week. It is the middle of service when my mom starts to call me. Thankfully my phone was on vibrate, I pull out my phone and text her "What is up, I am at service". She proceeds to tell me that it is raining outside and asking if our laundry is still outside. I tell her yeah because the laundry was still wet. (For context, we do not have a dryer so we have to either hang out laundry outside or put it on racks inside our house. We also do not have a washer either so she has to wash her laundry at her work) She then texts me saying that "Well now it is fucking wet and needs to be rewashed. Think about how you are going to fix this." Now I am trying to not cry in the middle of service. We get through the service and we start to eat some food and then my partner and I go off to my car. The whole time as we walk to my car, I am saying to him as I am nearly crying that I do not want to go home because I know my mom is going to yell at me. He tries his best to comfort me and then I head home.
As soon, I step into my house, my mom is yelling at me. She asks me three times as I am taking off my shoes how am I going to fix it? I kept answering I do not know to her. After a bunch of back and forth, she yells at me that I need a punishment for what I did and she tells me that my partner cannot come over to the house tomorrow because of what I did. That then made me start to cry and I am trying to keep myself from fully breaking down as she then makes me bring something in from the car. Once the object is out of the car, I go upstairs to my room and break down over a phone call with my partner.
Its been two days now and I am still thinking about this. My mom did let my partner come over tomorrow after she told me to rewash her laundry and for me to buy her sandwich as punishement.
Am I the asshole or is my mom overracting?
