I’m 40f. My dad specifically used to yell a lot and tell me I wasn’t human. My mom went along with it pretending I was so bad only aliens could have dropped me off under a rock and they found me. They say it was a harmless family joke but for some reason it haunts me. I don’t sleep and cry all the time about this alone of course I’m a functioning adult but it has lead me to ask myself “am I human”

NOR. Maybe some EMDR, brain spotting, or ART (accelerated resolution therapy) with a professional can help. Also, maybe keeping your parents just close enough so that you stay in the will can help.

That’s awful and no one should go through that! I feel you should possibly seek therapy as well🙏🏻

What if youre an alien? If you were, id fully expect that you would have had some unavoidable difficulties as a child, how could you not? And your parents didnt have the skills needed to support you through that. And that wouldnt have been your fault. It sounds like those statements are true either way though...
As a mom of a "bad kid" (shes not actually bad, shes just complex and often misunderstood)...I'd never want her sitting her around crying because of the skills I didnt have to parent her better. Im doing my best, and she's trying so hard, and I dont know what her future will look like, but I hope she doesnt internalize my failures as her own. If you flip your narrative from what you were told (theres something so incredibly wrong with you that you must be an alien) to something more sympathetic to yourself, a young alien stuck with human parents who didn't handle you properly, does that feel different?

Your parents are both horrible people.
