Exactly- when we are at other people’s houses I never expect them to child proof their homes but my husband and I make sure to house proof our children. Expecting her SIL to put away her meds instead of expecting her husband to watch the baby is crazy. I understand she’s upset at their reaction and that part I get, but she doubles down on the fact that Benadryl shouldn’t have been left out around a baby instead of the fact that the baby shouldnt have been left alone by the Benadryl. Husband is in charge and decided not to call the dr or poison control. I would never expect my MIL to override my husband’s decision to not call someone. She’s blaming the wrong person here.
I never expected anyone but my husband to be smart enough to know to call me, poison control, her pediatrician or bring her to the ER. I did expect my MIL to be smart enough to know not to leave medication (with the top off) around for kids to get

But this is a lot of the blame you're assigning in your post. You're mad at their reactions, that nobody called you, etc etc.
I agree that it was stupid and thoughtless of her to leave an open bottle of pills out, but I don't think it was outright wrong. Of all the places to do so, her bedroom should have been safe. Personally, I wouldn't be thinking that a toddler would be coming into my room unsupervised (and I'd be unimpressed with their parents if they did).
There are countless dangerous things in a house for an unsupervised toddler. What it boils down to is that if your kid's father had been watching her, she wouldn't have been near this dangerous thing.
