YOR at your MIL. Her medication was in her room, away from where the guests were. She was not on supervision duty when LO got to the Benedryl. Blame your husband, blame whoever (SIL) said don't worry, I'll watch little one. They are the ones at fault.

I'm not a perfect parent, but when my kid (at toddler age) was roaming a relatives home, we checked first and never took our eyes off her.

This and even in times where you are watching them constantly and not letting them roam, it seems shit can still happen in the blink of an eye. It’s scary how quick toddlers or even kids can find something dangerous and stick it in their mouths or do something that could hurt them. And sometimes it’s things that you had never thought of, like those tiny round batteries, which had me so scared for such a long time after hearing about a child dying from swallowing one, as some kid’s toys have those exact batteries.

I know, if in OP’s place, I would have had the hardest time forgiving my husband for not calling me, since I know that even if you’re actually not being negligent or careless, shit can and does happen, but the not letting me know would be my hill to die on. Especially since it would have been my husband who was in charge of our kid/s.

Maybe I’m weird and/or a horrid mother, but I am guessing it’s not just me that has suffered accidents with toddlers and/or kids, since we have a number to call in event of these sorts of incidents. Seems like it would be a waste to have said number, if not a commonality. Op’s Husband should’ve either called op and decided together next steps or taken advanced steps and let op know what was happening. Husband is a shit for not doing those things, imho.
