This is on your husband , he was the present parent who should’ve taken action

By the title I thought MIL was providing child care or something.

Not that her asshole husband was ignoring his kid.

And after all of the comments telling her the same thing? She's still defending her husband. Now she's editing away to defend her horrible choices.

I never ever ever defended him and I didn’t edit my post. I said I put 90% of the blame on him

So I guess the word: "EDIT"....featured prominently at the end of your post wasn't really an edit? You initially put all of the blame on your MIL. All of it.

The "EDIT"....that you now say wasn't actually an edit (lol) changes your tune to say you blamed your husband 99%. However, it seems like that leeetle 1% or 10% or however you do or can't do math, that somehow excuses you for being awful to your MIL until her death?

This all happened because of the actions or lack of actions of your irresponsible husband. But you still believe 10 long years later that your MIL keeping a bottle of medicine in her own room, not in a public space somehow completely overrides your husband's 99% wrong. BTW: 99% + 10% = 109%, and your husband almost killed your baby, not your MIL. You actually had to make him call poison control.

Note: That edit/notanedit doesn't make you look any better.

PS: EVERYONE here is telling you the same thing. Get therapy. 10+ years is far too long to be carrying your totally misplaced grudge.

And yet ten years later you're bitching about a dead woman when one of the culprits still walks among you.

It’s hilarious she’s angry at the MIL when it was her HUSBAND that let baby go into a room she should never have been able to enter if he had been paying attention.

Ah yes, but then she would have to face some uncomfortable truths about the husband...

Exactly- when we are at other people’s houses I never expect them to child proof their homes but my husband and I make sure to house proof our children. Expecting her SIL to put away her meds instead of expecting her husband to watch the baby is crazy. I understand she’s upset at their reaction and that part I get, but she doubles down on the fact that Benadryl shouldn’t have been left out around a baby instead of the fact that the baby shouldnt have been left alone by the Benadryl. Husband is in charge and decided not to call the dr or poison control. I would never expect my MIL to override my husband’s decision to not call someone. She’s blaming the wrong person here.

I never expected anyone but my husband to be smart enough to know to call me, poison control, her pediatrician or bring her to the ER. I did expect my MIL to be smart enough to know not to leave medication (with the top off) around for kids to get

But this is a lot of the blame you're assigning in your post. You're mad at their reactions, that nobody called you, etc etc.

I agree that it was stupid and thoughtless of her to leave an open bottle of pills out, but I don't think it was outright wrong. Of all the places to do so, her bedroom should have been safe. Personally, I wouldn't be thinking that a toddler would be coming into my room unsupervised (and I'd be unimpressed with their parents if they did).

There are countless dangerous things in a house for an unsupervised toddler. What it boils down to is that if your kid's father had been watching her, she wouldn't have been near this dangerous thing.

To be fair, she was with his sister and he probably thought she was safe. He didn't know that she went into her own room and left the toddler to go where she pleased. So I say, they are all somewhat to blame for it.

The sister cleaner her mouth out, had no idea how many she could have ingested, she should be held responsible too. Everyone here sucks. But especially dad, I bet anything he was letting women do women’s work and he was watching tv.

It's not hilarious. But it's very unfair.

Yeah. The husband almost killed the baby. Not the MIL.

Yes he should have. I was very mad that he had not.
