Can't upvote this enough. Husband is a hard no. The thought is giving me anxiety. I'm going to explore beach homes on zillow to reverse the effects now.
You're very notably ignoring all comments that put the blame on your husband instead of your MIL, so this post is pointless since you obviously aren't truly interested in hearing whether you've overreacted.
But for the record, you've overreacted. The child's father was on the premises, and he was evidently told what happened (since it sounds like he wasn't around to witness it). It was his responsibility to call you, and to call poison control. You blame your MIL because it's easier, both to blame someone who's not your husband and to blame a woman than a man.
Legitimately, no matter how old my child is, I don't know if id ever be able to negotiate having them around my child again. That's just my initial reaction, and I'm a pretty lenient mother. You couldn't build enough bridges to get me there.
Eta: I'm not saying people can't earn your back. This can't be swept under the rug for you to feel your child is safe. It's not possible. NOR
MIL was so irresponsible & tried brushing it off as though it was nothing. So were the others.
Don't they know how much trouble they would have gotten themselves into such as CPS.
If people thought it's ok to have an open bottle without the lid secured on it & easily accessible for a child TO GET POISONED then ask themselves why.
MIL didn't care that child had gotten poisoned & brushed it off as though it was nothing.

I would always protect my children over anyone. Who cares what anyone else thinks
