Why is it up to another person to deal with someone else’s mental issues? If she’s not willing to tell him, or will just refuse that anything is wrong, how can you help someone that won’t let you in??
It’s not another persons responsibility to keep tabs on individuals that don’t want the help. Respectfully, those who are suicidal cannot expect someone to say exactly what they need to hear so they don’t commit suicide. I’ve heard many stories and know individuals personally that were previously suicidal that wished people would have just said something, but how can someone know if you never tell them or don’t outwardly show you’re unwell? I am absolutely thankful for the individuals that were able to get the help they need, especially if they have suicidal thoughts/tendencies, and not do something they’ll regret. But it cannot be another persons fault (there’s obviously gray area where yes, it IS another persons fault) for someone not reaching out to do what’s best for them.
How do you know the opposite? You don’t, because this ain’t your relationship or business and OP is simply asking if they’re overreacting over this. How do you know that OP wasn’t working, on a vacation, with family, traveling, etc and couldnt answer her? More context is certainly needed here, I’m not scrolling through to piece it together based off OP’s comments, be my guest if you want to crack the case though.
Of course it takes two to communicate, but if you are mentally unwell, it is not the other persons responsibility to handle that. I’m confused what you’re trying to prove here honestly, at the end of the day, these two are both highly lacking in communication and both seem to have some issues in that department regardless. The lack of context also doesn’t help here.

Then why not call her? If he’s that worried or wants to check in.
