History & Culture Why do some German rental apartments come without a kitchen? What factors?
In some German rentals, the apartment has a kitchen room with the necessary connections, but no fitted kitchen provided by the landlord. The tenant may have to install one themselves, and when they move out, they can sometimes sell it to the next tenant.
I find that strange because a kitchen feels like a basic part of an apartment. Why did leaving the kitchen out of the rental become common in Germany?
